  1. You could also try taking three shots at a dartboard, adding up the score and then adding a zero wherever you deem fit
  2. That's absolutley spot on... I had this with one of my lads last week.. If you're felling a largeish tree, it;s better to use a smaller gob if you know you are going to need wedges as you can knock them in further. If you use too big a gob then after smacking the wedges in a little way they rest up against the hinge and then you're in trouble. This is another reason we carry a 'specialist' wedge on some of our jobs
  3. 34ft circumference?? JC!
  4. Depends how big your hill is!
  5. Alastair.... contact scotweld mate, they supply agency COSS's
  6. I tell ya..... you just can't get the staff!
  7. I refer to mine as the '200
  8. Sounds like a brilliant design idea to me! would find something like that very useful as well as affordable for £1k. It could be ideal for so many different jobs I think it would be worthwhile having it wethere you intend using it or not. One thought though... if it could be done and works, would the manufacturers not have already done it? I agree the tipper bodies on pick-ups do the styling no good at all so I would say you're onto a good one here!
  9. A true masterpiece Tommy... top class!
  10. A good pair of long-johns is deffinatley a requirement!
  11. Funny you mention that.. My grandfather kept the agricultural engineers and motor mechanics/petrol station on Great Green in Cockfield for many many years and everyone calls him Reg. His name is actually Leonard!!
  12. 13. From what I hear this kind of thing happens quite alot Matty.. been done to me also, although not with a planning app. The bigger companies are just as bad at it but I guess business is business. It's a low thing to do but it;s a sign of the times we live in
  14. I've heard of very large clearfells being done for £6.50/£7 a ton, but usually by owner operators who have fully paid up machines. For thinnings the benchmark would be around the £10 a ton mark for a contractor, and if you are having a management allowance you might want to increase that further.
  15. Cut and Extract to roadside for £7/t??? Not likley! More like £9 or £10

  23. Just noticed this thread... interesting reading. Tell ya what, you just cant beat a gypsy stick reduction from a ladder!! Ham - In this game we all make mistakes, errors of judgement and misconstrue specification from time to time.. You'r customer asked you to take as much off as you could, so that's what you did, but your idea of as much as possible is different to your customers.. well there's a whole can of worms that's different for every customer. Personally I think you took a bit much off her for my liking, and I know that beech are easily shocked so I wouldnt have been so heavy handed.
  24. priceless!! Where did he think it was going to go with that much counterweight!
  25. Looks like it did a bloody awful job!!! Impressive yeah, but what a mess!
