  1. Though i read this back when it happened, reading that report has given me a funny feeling inside again. I can't even imagine what seeing that must have been like for the guy on the ground and all involved. It really is a nightmare. Also seeing paul collins name in there made it feel real as i grew up with his son and watched him when i was a kid. It really brings it home doesn't it.
  2. I like the stein but its comfort is also going to be its down fall i think, due to all the padding its going to get scummy real quick. Its also slighty warmer than the petzl meaing more sweat into the padding. It does actually fit on my head though rather than perch like the petzl did. Don't get me wrong its good and i like it but...... I'll most likely get another vertex when it comes to changing again.
  3. Thats pretty much my thinking mike, if i do have an accident i want to get on the deck asap then sort myself out.
  4. Just wondering how many of you carry a first aid kit on your harness? Some seem to use them other don't. I personally don't as i found they spilt their contents and generally got hung up on everything.
  5. Love my HC, tried my mates spiderjack once but found it a bit jittery not as smooth as a hitch. But certainly a good tool to try and i'm sure you'd get the knack for it after a while.
  6. Not True in any way im afriad, DED does the rounds on our trees year in year out. Brightons street trees are mainly made up of elms there are also many many elms dotted about. We loose alot of mature elms each year through DED. All though there are stict controls on elm timber it hasn't stopped the spread, The council tree gang spend most of the summer removing elms. BUT There are some stunners down here. if you want to see Elms brightons the place.
  7. 12.2 stone or 77kg, looks like i need to get on with the bacon sannies to keep up with some of you.
  8. VT for me Got any pictures of the martin hitch?
  9. Glen, whether reductions are right or wrong thats a top job there mate! Ash aren't easy to reduce nicely.
  10. wasn't my kit i always take mine home mate....for reasons such as these.
  11. Rocked up this morning only to find that both my mates light lowering/pulling rope and climbing rope with spiderjack on had been taken from yesterdays job which we where back to finish today. He foolishly left them up the tree thinking it would be ok. Spoke to a neighbour who said she'd seen some pikeys stop for a good look. Thankfully they didn't have a really good rumage round the garden or they would of found all the big rigging kit and my mates climbing kit. What was taken: 45mtr XTC arbor gold 35mtr XTC plus Art Spiderjack 2 ICS Karbs 1 Gecko karb 1 screwgate I know theres no chance of seeing them again but its worth writing it up So don't risk it take 'em down and spike up in the morn. Also has anyone got a retired climbing rope for pulling/ lowering going spare?
  12. My petzl tika light does get in the way but you can use it, the visor needs to either stay up or down though. hope that makes sense
  13. Peanut butter and cheddar/edam..... yummy
  14. One of the guys i work for has a full chapter eight in them i quite like them. They seem to hold up just as well as the metal or roll up signs and fall over just as regularly:laugh1: He "aquired" them all from different places, which saved a fair bit of money. Interesting that they don't actually comply to highways or whatever regs.
  15. Had a screw gate open on me last week went to sling the saw, thought "oh bugger i've cut my strop" but the gate had worked loose. working over a pavement so could have done some damage had i not noticed and it fell...time to change to an old 3 way me thinks.
  16. sequioa got its first outing today, what an excellent harness! atree i was in the same dilema as you, went with the sequioa as its so much lighter than the TM...still fancy a TM aswell though.
  17. My sequoia turned up this afternoon, can't wait to get up a tree. Its as light as a feather and seems very comfortable to hang from.....damn this rain.
  18. My felcos are pretty much always with me. i personally don't see how you can not use a pair on reductions they are a must. Nice work marc!
  19. Bang on Andy! That really does sum it all up.
  20. really getting into them [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPQCircbhsc&feature=related]YouTube - the avalanches - radio[/ame]
  21. Same thing happened to me this week. Guy i was working for had quoted to do either a 30-40% reduction or a pollard on a norway maple. Customer didn't want either and phoned to say she had left a rag in the tree where she wanted the height down to. We rock up and this rag is roughly 8ft above crown break. Turning it into an 80% reduction! Whilst i was lumping bits out i was hoping that once i got down it wouldn't look as bad as i thought....it did. I was hacked off but its not the first time i've done a hack job and won't sadly be the last. I'm working to what the customer wants after they have been adviced as to what we wish to do. don't beat yourself up, we've all seen worse and i'm sure you can reduce well.
  22. Thats looks great dude my ropeguide basic with cocoon is useless for retrieving. This looks so much simpler and fool proof (me being the fool).
  23. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCwCBh0z3Hs&feature=fvw]YouTube - Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower Live! Isle Of Wight[/ame] awesome
  24. time to resurrect this thread Now poeple have been wearing their new lids for a few months how do you rate them? can they except sordin defenders yet? I'm needing to replace my vertex and the stein is a strong contender.
