  1. Especially when it's from a hy crack ?
  2. Don't you just hate it when your splitter stools?! ?
  3. Once the wood gets to any sort of size you don't so much split euc as destroy it - with a splitter anyway. It often helps to split it tangentially instead of radially - separate the growth rings instead of trying to split from heart to bark.
  4. A q for @Pete B or @GA Groundcare perhaps. Just how sensitive are wee chippers (Jo Beau M300) to the grind angle on the blades? I fitted newly sharpened blades this morning and the machine just won't drag any material in. I've played with the anvil gap (I set it narrow to start with)) but no difference. Having now whipped the blades off again and compared them to the blunt set they replaced I can see that the upper face angle is maybe 3 or 4 degrees wider than on the blunt ones. You can see that the bad blades weren't ground back as far as before. Hopefully this is the cause of the lack of performance (along with the fact that the wrong 'uns aren't actually that sharp!) If not I'm a bit stuck. The likelihood is I'll send the bad blades back for a free re-sharpen and the blunt ones will go to GA Groundcare cos you're cheap!!! Thanks, Jon
  5. Yikes. I take it you had to raise the bucket when loaded too to get round the right angled bend
  6. I wasn't going to say it but... ?
  7. When you said the cost of 'sorting out a chainsaw cut was £30,000' the impression given was that you were referring to the cost to the hospital of administering treatment. Hence my questioning it. Sorry, my crystal ball failed me; I didn't perceive that you were talking about the cost of a hypothetical court case as well; you didn't mention that bit! Bad crystal ball ?
  8. How do you arrive at such a high figure? I paid for a knee arhroscopy last year - that was £9k I think and £3.5k of that was for the anaesthetist, not needed for stitching up a chainsaw cut.
  9. I know that much but you said further up the page there was a legal obligation on a hospital: I asked what that was.
  10. Just the standard 'chipper' muffs which I guess are intended for use when operating chippers ? There is a numerical coding system for levels of protection but any supplier will know what you mean by chipper muffs.
  11. I believe you. What is it?
  12. I find WRC crackles when dry too - not quite spitting. If you're getting that @DGBit would confirm openspaceman's id.
  13. Bet that stung. Ow. Unless there is some legal obligation on a hospital to inform HSE of workplace injuries along the lines of informing Police of suspected child abuse etc (and I doubt there is any such obligation) surely that hospital would be in breach of patient confidentiality if it did inform. Thankfully the medical profession's preoccupation is with people's health, not HSE compliance.
  14. That's for sure. In a couple of years that hedge will be habitat heaven as well as a darned good stock hedge.
  15. Pass. Sorry young man - I'm not with you ?
  16. It's not an evil plant though; the winter flowers are invaluable to any awakening hibernating pollinators - bees etc. So if you can leave a few...
  17. The sentimental aspect is understood but the tree's suffered a lack of maintenance; the time's long gone when it could have been contained and maintained. It's time to go.
  18. Well I don't mind it going to green waste too much if it's used for something; but there will be tons and tons of beautiful stuff going in there too. Good to hear you're turning some ?
  19. Beautiful timber; got any lumps big enough for turning? Not for me but I like to think of others! If the answer's 'it's gone for firewood' it's crap for that!
  20. Employment status: Self-employed and contractor - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK Employment status (worker, employee, self-employed, director or contractor) affects employment rights and employer... There are always 'probably' and 'usually' etc; little is set in stone. HMRC regard someone as having a particular status, an Employment Tribunal can have the final determination.
  21. They certainly are.
  22. Do you include Global recycling in 'usual places'? If they haven't got them they can get them for you from Belgium just as fast as current limitations allow.
  23. That's going to keep you out of mischief for a while!
  24. Good to have you back @geoff I well remember your common sense approach ?; it's sorely needed!
