  1. Two things certain in life death and a nurse (my mates dad to a group of 18yrs lads old talking about going to a 999 night) Beware of women, all they want to do is suck your lollipop and spend your money (Physics teacher)
  2. South Essex Had a bright white transit short wheel base with reg starting HWA offering chainsaws this week, with three v young Irish lads in it.
  3. Try shiply.com, post the collection address, delivery address, description and timescale and people will email you with offers. Just has a nice touch with it and got a part loaded truck to collect a piece of equipment for me, for about 50% of the normal cost.
  4. Apparently BT Lines have to 17ft over the highway, watched our hiab delivery driver, pull a line down, outside the house we were planting the tree, he explained to us his load was 16ft something and it wasn't his fault, BT came measured his truck and agreed with him, as I recall.
  5. Try looking on a website called woodnet Robert
  6. Best dog names: Visualise shouting these out in public Grenade !!! Sniper !!!! Swine Flu!!!! Nearly got my mum to call two spaniel sisters tickle and tess (call both out in reverse tess tickle)
  7. My parked pick up was hit after pub closing time, driver drove off. Lots of debris left in road, collected most of it as evidence. Then parked up, with lights off and waited. A car with a woman and boy came along 15 mins later and collect bits I had left. Followed it at a discreet distance after noting its number plate, after a while it turned into a housing estate. Did not follow it in (thought they might be on to me) but watched the exit for a while then went to bed. In morning searched the estate a found a car with the bits I had missing off it. Went to plod, there were so many of them in there they had to boil the kettle twice to make a round of teas. I was stunned when the first thing they did was give me a 7 day wonder. Then I spent two hours giving statements. I pleaded with them to go to the house, offered them a lift there. They refused to go and visit. In end they did ****all. Had to get him through insurance, complained to head of local police (who did nothing) Police = useless, is my informed opinion.
  8. Learnt this the hard way, but in retrospect it was bleedin obvious: Do not work for a large construction company whose phone options / priorities are 1 for accounts 2 for purchasing 3 for surveyors This company puts accounts first and payment last, currently 6 months overdue.
  9. I would tell her that we are in the deepest recession ever (?), you are trying to earn a living, does she want you to loose your work, your house and undesirables move into your house? You are a working man, working, tell her to **** off.
  10. Dave Fishwick - Bank of Dave Has started an e-petition for the above. The link is below. No-one has been jailed for libor manipulation, which affects us all, banks are paying out billions for mis sold income protection and for bad advice on interest rate swaps (whatever they are), they lent like lunactics to fuel a credit boom and then took away credit went it went bang..... I would get jailed for re-creating the last scene in fight club, so have signed the following. It probably will not change a thing, but it may chip away a little bit at the current practices of the banks. Better Banking for Britain - e-petitions
  11. I would advise the parish council to speak to their insurance company.
  12. We used to share an officer with our sister tree surgery company, used to dread the wind blowing, call after call "my tree is bending in the wind", answered with the response "Good" pause "call us when it doesn't bend in the wind"
  13. A well known comedian round these parts had a mistress, allegedly. His wife has the plate U ME IM
  14. We are tree & hedge movers. Moved a 100 year old Beech hedge, without preparation (no time), that ringed a bowling green. Moved it for the developers to front another site. The developer never watered it (not recommended). 0% failure. Moved in 1997, still going strong. If you move most things the right way, with the right aftercare, will succeed.
  15. On twitter, I am a talking tree @yourtalkingtree It was implemented so that clients for whom we transplant / plant trees could follow and I could tell them how to look after i.e. thirsty, mulch, mycorrhizal, weeds, pests, do not worry leaves falling it is autumn etc, in addition to our aftercare notes. Found that thinking like a tree for a few minutes a day is beautifully relaxing, takes you away from all the human issues. Also use twitter to keep up news /events, it is by far the fastest, usually eyewitness, but unregulated so things like Justin Beiber (who) dying often happens! There are lots of arb twitters out there posting links and news.
  16. It has to be installed to a depth specified by a tree consultant who has prof indemnity insurance. It then has to be installed according to manufacturers recommendations. There is a tree sundry supply company out there with a very high profile that sells root barrier at 300,600,1000 & 2000mm. I have had a real argument with their salesman over a rootbarrier at any of these depths. In my view it cannot work and they are misleading clients. Amazingly they counter saying that the roots stay at that depth!! & that a barrier does not have to be a complete barrier, pointing out that a fence with gate is a barrier, even if the gate can be opened (I kid you not). I am often asked to install root barrier as supplied by the company as they have a very good profile with specifiers who specify the whole planting package (rooting areas, aeration/irrigation tubes, grilles and guards). I have to point out to clients that the root barrier is not going to work in my opinion and is better described as a root deflector and I will have no liability if I install it.
  17. A long time ago (15yrs?) I recall being told the Arb Assoc advised along the lines " whatever the risk of heave, the risk of subsidence far outweighs it, to the extent it (heave) should be ignored" Does anyone else have the same rememory (borrowed from Winnie the Pooh) of this ? Was never comfortable with this when dealing with a large tree very close to a structure that was taking loads of moisture from the soil. Thankfully never involved with advice on tree surgery works!
  18. We would be interested we have a sister company R G Consultancy which has a pragmatic, reasonable approach to such sites. We would love to be given the opportunity to assist your client.

    Kind regards

  19. Lovely start to the week. The above machine was stolen from a secure compound in Benfleet over the weekend. It is bright orange (as are all Kubota) and new. We would love to get our hands on the people who did this and then get our machine back. Another contractors off road buggy was also stolen.
  20. 3 min 20! - I visualise my blood pouring out and push!
  21. Started giving blood again, about a year ago. I treat it as a competition - how quickly I can get it out of my body (current record 3 mins 20 sec). The mix of a feelgood factor of donating plus the buzz of competition and amazement that my blood is worth having, makes it a pleasure. They are much more flexible with donations now, do it after work or at weekends, they phone to remind and/or ask for donation at a date/time that suits me. You can do the paperwork before you get there. The queues are much shorter, I am generally in and out in 30mins.
  22. It is possible, give me a call
  23. As a tree on Twitter (@yourtalkingtree) I am promoting correct mulching, removing of epicormic / basal growth, watering of newly planted and container trees, advising the dry hot winds increase moisture loss through transpiration, how to get round the hose pipe bans ..... Sorry thought this thread was about trees surviving the heat!
  24. There is a 'new' huge greenwaste recycling centre, next to the M25 around Waltham Abbey. If anyone knows who runs it, I would like to know, currently get bulk wood chips from Norfolk.
  25. Christopher Call us, this is our modus operandi. 01277 849990. We are keen to promote best practice, even if we do not move it. Robert
