  1. Im only 25 but i started workin on trees with my uncle at 12! and was workin at my grandparents garden nursery before that! I used to walk round the streets with a mower my dad had got me knocking on peoples doors and see if they wanted the garden doin haha. Id do preety much anything goin to keep the bills payed,i once had to pay my mums morgage with 2's and 1's that id saved up just because there's no way id go on the dole! My mum worked for 27 years at her job and when she was out of work due to bein ill they treated her like crap at the job centre and all they could say was "well you've worked for this long why can you not get a job now". Like SWB says there's always work out there it just depends how bad you want it!
  2. Stihls for us mainly because the husqy's that we've had have been nothing but trouble! They semmed to be very tempramental and fall apart quite easily. In sayin that though the 254 was probably the best saw ever made!...
  3. Same as Marc i use AKU croda's and there awesome!!
  4. A sausage, egg and black pudding cob,big cup of tea and get yasen up a tree. If its the worlds biggest hangover though then im afraid only burger king can cure them!!!
  5. ya lucky git!!! wish i was goin but hey ho work strikes again haha. Hope you have a good un bud and hope the weather perks up for ya!
  6. We've got a tow behind one too which also cuts out? If you start it on half revs though it very rarely cuts out?
  7. I was drivin through a town centre and someone(not gonna blame my self haha)hadn't put the jockey wheel up right on the chipper and when i went over a speed hump the jockey wheel slipped out and doug a 6 inch rut into the road!!! Had to stihl saw the jockey wheel off! it looked like a banna, dont know how much it would of cost to repair the road and plus we bought the main road throuhg the centre of town to a stand still for about an hour!!!
  8. I was taught to climb with both ends when i first started climbin 6 years ago,i climbed like that for a while until i took a lanyard up with me and realised how much easier it was!!! To be honest unless im dissmantling i very rarely use my lanyard other than accent of the tree to start with?
  9. I love scrumpy jack!!
  10. We get this kind of crap all the time!! Most of the time the LA dont even seem that bothered? Why bother putting a TPO on if you dont give a damn?
  11. I use one end and a lanyard but the bloke who i climb with alot uses both ends and swears by it!! Different strokes for different folks i suppose? As long as the works done and everyones safe then do what feels right?
  12. This threads gonna be a good un i can feel it!! haha. I love voting makes me feel special haha
  13. Very nice mate. Might sound like a stupid question but havin never attempted carvin or turnin how'd you go about it?
  14. Haha reminded me of when i was a wee nipper and i was tryin to push a dead pine tree over and nearly skittled myself when the top fell off!!! haha plant pot
  15. We always have a qualified climber when working. The philosophy at our place though is that eveyone should be able to do everything that everyone else can do!! works quite well but does cost alot on training. If someones sick or on holiday though the work carries on regardless.
  16. Yeah its perfect mate! Does seem a bit thin if you've been used to a blakes or prussic, may take some gettin used to a HC too if you've never used one? Once you do though theres no goin back!! Just dont decend too fast or you may end up with some friction burns haha
  17. haha are they!! you'll end up gettin fat especially if u buy a couple of revolvers and start gettin the groundies to pull u up haha
  18. What ever you do shrek dont forget to take it with u one day cos you'll be amazed at just how hard it is to pull yourself up a tree!!! haha.
  19. Thats lookin a very nice piece of kit there Reg! Will be lookin forward to seein it at the aa show.
  20. You do tend to get through a bit more friction cord but cos your goin quicker u get more work done which means u make more money so u can buy more cord haha...its a viscious circle. Its probabaly my favourite piece of kit i own!!
  21. Hi SWB the main thing to remember when settin your ropeguide is to set it slack and to not choke it right up. It gets stuck very easy other wise!! trust me i no!!! haha
  22. Thats a caracker there mate!!
  23. Haha thats awesome, was they on there way to a dogging hot spot down there hopin to make a few quid haha
  24. We're quieter than last year but doin alright. Our contract work for big companies and LA's has slowed alot but the domestic side has gone through the roof!!! swings and round abouts i suppose?
  25. That saw looked a bit on the small side to me for that job!!! haha. Not a bad idea though as the weight of the saw isn't on your harness as much. Like monkeyd says though could be a new climbers downfall!!!
