  1. There is a growing demand for pub door men - it's changed a bit over the last four years though... you now are paid to throw people off the street into the pub!
  2. But (as others have said) the threat of a CCJ has never been more potent. Finish the job and go through the legal process. If the law fails you then your option to return their property remains open. Still a bummer though and a lot of stress that is totally unwarranted. Best wishes.
  3. Sounds like Yeti is up for the entrepreneur award. Good work!
  4. These guys have been selling for a year or so. Good trade from the local campsites but not much else... Fire Dragon logs - vertical campfire logs and torches
  5. If you want a good look around a couple of splitters (10 and 20 ton) and discuss the pros & cons please pm me. I'm about 20 miles from St Helens.
  6. Took one down last week. One of four all fairly young (30") pops but this one didn't ride out the winter.
  7. Dave, I hope I haven't missed the point - I fully understand that the real value is in the craft. What I am on about is the (great name) "pile kickers" who expect my time, equipment and materials for nothing. The example in the auction was that an exceptional piece of wood that would make 2-3 nets of firewood is not worth £2.50.... As I said before we need to help each other. It's not a problem at all but it still does seem a waste!
  8. Steve,

I seem to be loosing my signature link. I don't understand why it is getting deleted as no one has commented but I believe it was compliant as much as can be possible in such a broad church - not competing with you or your advertisers and providing a back link to arbtalk. Any help in understanding why it is getting removed would be much appreciated.

  9. David, If you PM me your preferred contact details I will pass them to a potential customer for you.
  10. Done well to survive last winter - it says here Chorisia Speciosa Floss Silk Tree that they are only tolerant of -7 degrees.
  11. Well... the auction for the lump of apple trunk just finished - I guess the £2.50 was just too much and it remains unsold. Firewood it is then. The above little experiment confirms my view that the wood turners do seem to want an awful lot for very little... or am I still missing something obvious.
  12. Around us we have two main firewood sellers - one doing top end dry mixed hardwood at £70 (.65 cubic m) and the other knocking out arb waste as fast as it falls predominantly wet leylandii but all cut to length and split at £35 a .65 bag. Once customers understand the difference between products on offer they can make their own choice so everyone is happy and it works really well. Both vendors usually sell out shortly after Christmas so summer orders have become much stronger over the last two years.

    £800

Agreed - a good axe is a better buy than a crap splitter
  14. The oak bench is a fantastic piece. every credit!
  15. Lovely. A great piccie to start the day.
  16. My only experience is "wasting" several hours of my time burning diesel with a loader pulling the pile apart for a payment that was less than the minimum wage for the time it took to get at it. The answer to any further requests has had to be no, but it still hurts to process stuff that I believe could have a better use than firewood. I would be happy to put stuff to one side if I knew it was going to be worth the effort. Anyway, the thread made me realise that I don't really understand what it is the woodturners actually are seeking. Perhaps if you guys could provide some sort of specification / watch list it would be mutually beneficial. Re what is a fair price to both parties I dragged out a 3ft lump of apple trunk and stuck it on ebay yesterday just to see what happens. I don't know if it is a good piece or a bad piece but to my mind it is one of those that would be a shame to chop up for firewood. We will see what happens Large Apple log 38" x 8" for woodturning or wood crafts | eBay UK We need to help each other here!
  17. Taxi for Geoff
  18. Just a quick update - the advice in this thread was (as usual) top notch! I got two (one for a spare) remote control units sent from China via ebay. Cost £30.83 - fitted within the hour of arrival and works a treat. I still haven't found the proper lead so it was just as well I asked.
  19. If you are selling "the goodwill" alone then not much. You could start up again the day after and take back all your customers. If you are getting out of the business and selling the premises/lease, associated production and delivery kit etc then it would have a decent value - IF you can find someone daft enough to buy hard work .
  20. Nothing leaves our yard for less.
  21. Like they said Gransfors.... I hadn't really thought about it before but I always buy big brand for edge tools but am less fussy for other tools. I tend to buy what looks ok but is cheap and then replace it with a better brand IF it breaks or wears out. If I tipped out the spanner box it will be full of all sorts of "rubbish" but I know there are a couple of snap on half inch / nine sixteenths in there. Equally I bought a 3/4 drive socket set primarily for removing dumper wheels 'in the field'. £40ish off ebay, dreadful quality but so far unbreakable despite the serious abuse it has had to put up with. I would not like to think how much a snap on set would be.
  22. 35 the floaters
  23. I went for the pto pump - works a treat on a selection of tractors. Even a small Kubota can drive the pump even though it cant lift the splitter. Riko will tweak the pump to the hp you specify.
  24. £32 the floaters
