  1. oooh pretty colours. If you have the ability to move that and get it to a saw mill, you will have some fine pretty wood.
  2. It may be that if the trees have had a number of good years that it has not the energy to produce a profusion of flowers this year, and with the general decline in bee numbers. However it might be something else completey different
  3. Not many apples !! , the apple trees around here are absolutely loaded.
  4. Having done a number of refresher courses, i have found them handy for picking up on bad habits that tend to creep in. And with all things techniques inprove/ change, sometime even for the better. Currently going through Lantra assessment to become a trainer, so i am have to re-learn to get back up to speed, which will hopefully improve my techniques. However i do agree with roseyweb
  5. Have your tools now got that lovely blueish tinge from splitting the sweet chesnut?
  6. ahh the joys of verble abuse.....
  7. I have jammed copper pipe over the jaws of the earth, which has made a big difference, particularly when they are rubbed with steel wool before starting.
  8. errh, you beat me too it. Looks to be in good nick. Is that broughton winch in the back ?
  9. I am making my own storage units from 1mm steel (scrounged old tables from my local school), and i am welding it together with 1.6mm sticks and my arc welder on its lowest setting. Even so i am still managing to blow the occasional hole in the metal. Transit panels are even thinner, so i recon that you will have no chance at welding with an arc welder.
  10. Spent three days zip lining bits of tree over a barn (in gales and driving rain). Tidying up and removing the last couple of bit by hand as the anchor were too low zip line them (the sun had come out by then), when the last one slipped out of my grasp and straight through the roof . to say that i was gutted is an understatment.
  11. There is a free one to download, just search this forum. (next to todays post at the Top)
  12. What exacatly are they basing this on ? Any fool can pick ten 'nice' looking stoves.
  13. According to insects of western europe: Females are voracious blood suckers attacking all large mammals including man, with their blade like mouth parts .......... SPLAT IT However the males feed on nectar
  14. At a guess the tree in question has three options: 1 fell it as it now has massive crack running down to ground level and it is structurally unsound. This also applies if there are roads, footpaths, building etc nearby and public liability is an issue. 2 pollard it to reduce the weight and stress on the trunk and madssive crack. 3 leave it alone and see what happens. Inform/ advise the customer, and let them make the choice. bare in mind that sweet chestnut is appaling firewood, in case the customer is thinking about alot of cheap firewood.
  15. Is that one or two loads in the mighty trailer/ landrover combo? :001_tt2:
  16. the axles are not bowing out yet, i sure you could have got a few more logs on the trailer. And there is still plenty of space on the roof and bonnet of the Landrover. If you are going to get stopped you might as well get stopped with style. :001_tt2:
  17. logs do not normally start moving until mid oct around here, it normally depends on how many are left from last year, and temperature.
  18. I can feel my hips cracking just looking at it:crying:
  19. Interesting, that the label recomends that you spray glyophosate in May. Trials in N Wales by CCw and the National trust found that November was the best time to spray Rhoddie. Spraying at this time had the highest kill rate. Generally i use a fan nozzle with the largest diameter hole, and the pressure set on its lowerest setting. This gets the leaves really wet. Gylophsate is supposed to have a sticking agent already mixed in, but in practice it does not make much difference, therefore adding Mixture B is needed to make it stick to the shiney leaves.
  20. have you stopped itching form the larch hairs yet ? Nice logs.
  21. Read the label, then read the label again. Most people trip up because they have not read the label properly. Particularly with ppe for mixing, and ppe for application, which often have slightly different requirements. And remember even if you get something wrong, a good examiner will try to drag the correct answer out of you. Good luck
  22. I have had a look at your web site, and being a ludite i could not find any infomation about the wood fuel acreditation process. Can you provide me some infomation ?

    Your hopefully
