  1. Has anybody got any spare tree tags floating about. I have to mark up about 35 trees, and as i am a miserly old git i don't want to buy a 1000. I am even prepaired to part with some money.
  2. Evening, Pembs real cycling, you need to find your key/unique selling point, as you will be going against credland firewood who sell thousands of kindling units all accross west Wales. Have you spoken with wood fuel wales yet, and might be able to help source funding through WEBS funding. P.S. i still have a couple of cube of the unpopular poplar which makes good kindling. P.M. if you are intrested. P.P.S Good luck
  3. Good climbing practice, what is wrong with that. If one anchor breaks you have a back up. Which when swinging around HV lines can only be a good thing.
  4. One of the rubbers is not in place properly. Take them out and start again, but before you re-insert spray the rubber mount with magic spray (WD40 or similar). They will pop in much easier, and the saw will look straight not wonky.
  5. I'm not looking at your posts anymore, to say that i am envious is an understatement......
  6. Eveing Jon, getting board with the Same and forwarder, and fancy some new toys ?
  7. What is wrong with a second rope, less gear intensive, and can be used on smaller trees, therefore more useful. KIS (keep it simple)
  8. This is the problem with re-directs, as it can cause your main anchor to fail. The branch is at is strongest when you are hanging directly beneath your anchor. The further out you go the higher the chance of limb failure, this is further increased with redirects. The use of a second rope will spreed your weight accross the crown, and the stress on limbs will be at a reduced angle.
  9. Here you are try TCF engineering: Home - TCF Engineering
  10. Using both ends of the rope leaves a loope hanging in the tree to catch everything falling out of the tree, which is the main reason why people use two seperate lines. The downside with two line is there is twice the tangley fun in the tree. Branch walking is safer with two line as it reduces the chances of big swings. But at the end of the day is is what you are used to, and what works for you.
  11. Oh yes baby, that my friend is a work of of (bad) art. Still looking on the positive, take a few photos to show future customers what a bad hedge looks like.
  12. Arr yer coward, launch yourself in with both feet like i did, and wait to be corrected.
  13. I can not remember the exact name, but it is a bottle swelling. It is often caused by damage to the roots and the tree puts on this growth to compensate. I think.
  14. I can not decide wheather they are a good idea. The road speed is good, but the handling is not. They are also with size eleven feet easy to get your foot stuck getting in and out.
  15. The 300 sit further back in the enginne bay, so the gear box needs slight modification, and most of the pipes at the front of the enginne need extending.
  16. TD engine £2000 200 or 300 tdi engine £2500-3000 ish
  17. You will need to find a centre that will take you on. But you will probably need to get a few more years experiance. Then you need to do the technical evaluation and the three day verifiers course. Once you have that you need to assessed assessing 3-4 times. It will cost about £2000
  18. I was given two boxs of power bars by the rep to try out. Lived off them for three days walking on dartmoor before i admitted defeat and have to eat something else. My innards to days to settle down afterwards, and produced the most interesting coloured poo.
  19. We have an ecoburn 7 which heats a similar size room, and heats two additional radiators. Not a bad stove (not as good as our douvre but we could not get a back boiler for it), was £700 inc the back boiler.
  20. Stick to your guns and call there bluff. Surely there must be some other buyers out there that are easier to deal with ?
  21. Who needs fancy overseas wood when we have wood like that. That is a thing of beauty.
  22. good work, nice to have a view when you have finnished
  23. If i were you, i would get a part time job with an arb company in the area that you want to work in. This will then give you some free time to persue your own goals, and provide you with the experience you need to set up on your own. I think that investing in a cherry picker will turn into a bit of a white elephant. In fisteen years i have only used a cherry picker three times, and that was because the tree were too dead to climb. If your current experience is in forestry, why not invest in a tractor which will have more uses. At the moment my time is about 50/50 in the woods, and tree surgery, which means that i am not doing the same thing day in day out. Good luck what ever you decide
  24. Pass. How much do you stand to lose if you go with the buyers verdict ?
