  1. What's with the "old"? Sure there are plenty of old Listers out there but what you have is a standard push rod engine, its not cutting edge but that's not what's needed to run a chipper. Lister Petter Parts & Spares
  2. They tried this on Greater Manchester, they said no charge no metro link, they got told to stick the tram where the sun don't shine. It all went away for a while then they built the tram lines anyway.
  3. Nope, it depends on the regulations and they say that if its not fit for use then its not fit for use, at all. If it fails you simply cant use it. Three way biners do open under use, shortly after the HSE insisted on their use there was an incident where a 3 way opened in use resulting in a HSE press release
  4. If it failed LOLER its dog lead material. No lifting at all.
  5. Scrap car??? What scrap car, he puts the wheels back on to go to the shops.
  6. The only problem you might have is if the valves have damaged the piston crowns and or themselves in the process, its still not terminal but more work and expense. Nothing you have done to the machine will have caused this, its unlikely to have hydrauliced, that's usually a lot more serious particularly with a chipper flywheel involved. Chances are your chain tensioner fell in bits and the timing went out. Stuff happens
  7. That's not a disaster, I like to see bent push rods, bent push rods means there is probably less damage elsewhere. That's nothing to do with your bloke running it at low revs, more than likely the valve timing has slipped. In engine terms its not a difficult fix. You don't need an engine diagram, push rod engines are as simple as it gets
  8. I think some videos I see have plenty of tits in them:laugh1:
  9. I can do that for you but it will have to wait for warmer weather, and I don't think you would like it:laugh1:
  10. Good skills, if it looks easy it probably isnt.
  11. Nice, did you know someone has pinched the power head of the one at the front?
  12. Most pumps have the flow rate and pressure in the serial number, if you get that and ask the manufacturer.
  13. I like that a lot
  14. What??? Its way to pretty to go tree working, that nice metallic paint wont take the punishment and when you go over a bump at speed, all your saws are going to bounce out of the back
  15. If we are making names up I want the cheese and onion pie cut:laugh1:
  16. I did a job like this once and it went well. The customer was a builder and he got the kitchen ply boarded out and we carted an entire black pop through a plywood tunnel. In truth he was a bit embarrassed that he head managed to "build" the tree into the back garden with an extension.
  17. Buy a bundle of bare root whips from a tree nursery and put them in pots. Depending on species you should be able to do it for between a pound and three pounds per.
  18. I am afraid I may be the bearer of bad tidings What was said above is all perfectly correct and valid BUT "nana" is grafted, that is the ball top characteristic is joined to a standard catalpa stem. The ball top part is a naturally occurring variance that is all part of natures trial and error system, the fact that the entire top didn't grow, and the stem did leads me to suspect that the graft has died and the only growth was coming from the root stock The reasons for this could be that the grafted material is a bit on the soft side and simply couldn't stand the cold, similarly a bad graft could have suffered from frost damage. I am afraid you are in a wait and see situation, the re growth in the crown might be from the grafted material, if it is, in time you will get your tree back, if not and you cant live with the results, I would cull it and start again. For the here and now the growth on the stem is putting energy back into the system so I would leave it on for now, it can always be removed later if the grafted material makes a come back I have seen several quite large grafted catalpa where the entire top had died off above the graft, that was also attributed to cold.
  19. Not a prayer, the floor is a bit of plywood and that alone won't even put up with driving around with the crane bolted to it. Most trailers need modifying to mount something like that.
  20. That's completely bogus The criteria for the requirement for Employers Liability COMPULSORY insurance (ELCI) isn't the chances of getting sued are nill. If a family member does work for the company some benefit must accrue, weather its wages or the general benefit to the family business. This peer relationship is a well established principal in the eyes of the HSE and that's what counts. As Steve says, managing a life changing injury needs a lot of money and the only people with pockets that deep are insurers.
  21. You don't need the driver CPC but not because the vehicle doesn't earn you anything, that argument is flawed. You use the vehicle to get to the job and remove waste, its therefore part of the earning money process. You don't need a driver CPC. There is an exemption for people who aren't professional drivers (ie their job is driving).
  22. Stella extinguished :laugh1::laugh1:
  23. Pay should read reward, it doesn't have to be financial, if they get any benefit you are still the employer
  24. You are pretty odd:laugh1:
  25. I have found another bonfire for you to piss on http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/83259-employing-odd-labourer.html#post1238215
