  1. I have a small mixed woodland plot. Some of the largest trees are beeches, they all seem to have some amount of problems. Most seem to have what looks like bleeding sores in the main trunk. However this week I have noticed one tree in particular that has a large patch of fungal growths aprox 2 foot by 3 foot on the base of the trunk. It is also on the tree that did not fully leaf up this year & just seemed to be doing badly. So is this fatal? If so how soon should I be dealing with it? (its natural fall would see it landing on my parking spot.) Would this come under the dead dying / diseased felling exemptions? If not fatal can I do any thing to help it? Is this the same problem as the bleeding sores on the other trees?
  2. Oddly no.
  3. Try using a fig 9 on a bight. You just add an extra half twist to a Fig 8.
  4. Not at all. He has full planning subject to some conditions being met. Do you need to remove any to actually do the build? If not do the build & wait for a year or two & then get a cutting licence to do the trees you want to remove.
  5. So its harmless but does speed up decomposition? You need two types (one for hard & one for softwoods) so still need to run two saw sets or change oils. If you were felling (but not snedding cos then the wood you want to mill is also infected) forestry stuff all day I could see the need.
  6. Why put it in your saw & spread it all over every cut you make (and you & the environment) when you could just apply some to the stump after its cut? You would use a lot less too.
  7. On driving through my nearest town (Pwllheli) I noticed that all the pollarded (some recently & some years old) sycamores seem to be dying off. Some have lost all the leaves & some just on one side / part. Then on returning home I spot a couple on the road side on the woodland edge that are the same but not as bad. The ones in the wood are fine. Initially I did think that the trees had been poisoned but on seeing the roads side woodland trees I discounted that as they could not have done all the roads in the area. Are they just getting into their autumn clothes early or is there a problem?
  8. Tie two together & send via a cheap pallet delivery service & your sorted for less than a ton.
  9. Then is not a real Sankey. (just checked & its a GKN, It looks like a cooks trailer model) Its a "Sankey" just like all vacuum cleaners are called "hoovers" yet not all are really a Hoover. Plus at £950 plus VAT compared to £250 plus VAT for the normal one its not much of a bargain. If you have the right tow vehicle you could go for one of these Arrows
  10. Sankey's are heavy empty (just over 500kg for a wide track) & have a low pay load capacity (750kg) but are strong. Sadly a full IBC would be well over the legal weight capacity of a sankey.
  11. Er that depends lol
  12. I have one. Prob over kill for what you want but, Holds 1000L, Has a standard tap outlet & a large drain outlet. Plus we have fitted a filling point that takes a 25mm blue pipe. Was fitted with a new 50mm hitch about 2 years ago & has only done a couple of road miles since. Tyres all look good as does the chassis. Fitted with a towing board / lights. We are using it to store drinking water till we set up the main tank so its clean inside. Looking for £500 for it. Will be putting it on the bay soon. What about an IBC on a cheap trailer?
  13. You can even get extra tall ones that hold 2m3.
  14. Send them two quotes. One with & one without the detailed statement. Might clear the fog from their minds.
  15. First thought:- As the length of the sides cant increase when bulging in the middle the corners will come in. I am almost positive that the volume will decrease exponentially the more it bulges. Think of a cardboard box, if you bulge it in one direction the other two sides come in & reduce the volume & if you keep pulling two sides out the other two side meet & you have NO volume at all. Second thought:- If the sides are added up on a 0.8m bag they come to 3.2m. Using Pi to work out the volume if it was a round bag 0.8m high it would be 0.68m3. So As the base wont let the bag go round at the base I suspect that reality falls some where in between these examples & the bags volume does not change much when bulging. So who is up for measuring it using water? (line it with plastic first)
  16. More like 0.5m3
  17. If that is true it still does not stop a customer asking for them & making them a conditional part of the deal.
  18. Best straight from the freezer.
  19. You dont see many pub/club brawls (or should that be "Amsterdam coffee house" brawls) caused by cannabis. Both smoking & drinking would not get licensed if you brought them out as a new thing today. (I am a non smoker, non drug taker & limited drinker)

    VAT Rise

Why do you need EL if you are a one man band? £500 per month in fuel is either a lot of hours work on the saws or a long way (over 2k miles) in the van.
  21. Still needs splitting loads.

    VAT Rise

The system needs a revamp. Lower the reg limit (£30k sounds good so one man bands can still earn a good "wage") or make everyone do it The vat should only be paid by the end user not paid & reclaimed as it passes through each company / trader.
  23. When I was doing contracting work (in IT) I was self employed (but working under a umbrella company). We could claim for food if we had done over 5 hours & then a bigger amount if over 10 (I think it was called subsistence allowance). We dint get paid that amount but it did offset out wages to expenses so we paid less tax. from Subsistence Travel Expenses Tax Allowances and Car Mileage Rates
  24. As above if they are set up as a work based thing then you could claim them. Lots of companies have on site gyms for staff. But also check first, cos they make the rules bend to suit themselves.
  25. You only have minimal permitted development rights on that small bit of agricultural land but the forestry gets full PD rights. Would be simpler if you say what you want to do & then look at ways of doing it.
