  1. I would say that you are right about brash but not about millable. Its not a timber felling exemption. What about firewood? That will produce double or more than millable would. Right done some digging. Now this is an old document but the newer ones will have the same definition. from legal document So that leaves no doubt its 5 cubes in total as aggregate means in total, all together, sum of ect ect.
  2. I got to ask. Do you have an official source to quote on that? All the official paperwork that I have read just says 5 cubes per quarter & you cant sell more than 2 cubes of it. Which does imply that the 5 cubes is in total & 2 cubes is sell able. So you would have to leave the wood for them even if they dont want it as they cant sell (even for no money) it. Oh & its per ownership so you cant do another 5 cubes in the same quarter on another parcel of land owned by the same entity (person, partnership, company).
  3. Can anyone ID this PTO generator? I know nothing about it so any help finding out its spec would be great.
  4. Might as well be for a million cos they aint going to pay it no matter what it is.
  5. I would guess that the cost of felling them would be more than the value of them.
  6. I dont think that "pine" & "shingle" should be in the sentence. Get some WRC. How big is the roof?
  7. I think he is saying that one way or another we HAVE to pay more money to the Gov to run this mess of a country. So you can either pay via the fuel or income taxes or NI or VAT or indirect taxes or in blood. But its still got to be paid one way or another. We had the good times & now its time to pay the piper.
  8. Perhaps because they look like they have been made using a pallet or that people see them & think "I can make that from a pallet for free" ?
  9. The ones in our Aga Little Wenlock 5kw have lasted for 3 hard winter seasons burning 24 7 as the only heat source is a static van. Still look like new. It has only ever had wood in it.
  10. Check the flow chart on page 14 linky That looks like its the same 750kg limit that all trailers have. But it is also speed & age of vehicle related. This does surprise me as there are loads of 3 tonne ish sized trailers with no brakes or just parking ones. This linky does seem to say that you can have a bigger trailer as long as you only drive (even if the tractor can go faster) at less than 20kph.
  11. I would think that without any load/flow control & the 4 rams just piped up via splitters will still twist if one side is tougher than another.
  12. Dunno
  13. Dont get me started on that thing. We were offered it privately before it went on ebay via a local area facebook sales page. Said we wanted it at said price then spotted it on ebay fast approaching the price we agreed on. They then started to say that they were selling it for some one else & that the owner had sold it to a mate. I think a behind the auction deal was done.
  14. Dont over fill the oil.
  15. You see this statement all the time but I still cant find a single link to any regulations or laws that back it up. The shop owner might choose to do this but is it actually a legal requirement.
  16. gensetsteve, If I click your firewood link I get no results found
  17. You have to be very very careful not to "over cook" it or you end up with non burnable diamonds.
  18. Buy in some ready to sell logs that meet your standards. Then you wont need to set up the temp dryer before getting the figures. Or just make some up (IE do a business plan its the same thing) & approach the bank with that. Or you could even do the marketing before you buy them in (If you can find anyone with good dry stock to sell you).
  19. Just thought. Have you considered getting them delivered cut & split in bulk? One of the guys on here does it & I am sure the rate is comparable to doing it yourself.

  20. I did like the one with the big machine that could do all you need in one day. More per day but if they can do it in one day sounds good. Down side is can you & your gear keep up with moving all the firewood.

  21. Hi Mr F,

I hired Wyn last year to do mine. We had him for two days & just managed to do a 18 tonner load (made about 30 full bags after settling & moving them about) & there was me, my lad (who worked his ass off) & Wyn. My lad was passing the logs into the machine, the Wyn operated it with me sorting blockages & handling the feed conveyor & changing the bags. I would build a frame to hold the bags fully open or whilst the forklift is taking the filled bag away you either have to stop or have the logs on the floor. Roughly you are changing a bag every 20 mins at full pelt. Wyn is old school in his work & is worth every penny. I would recommend having 3 people on the job for max output. I would also allow 3 days to do your lorry load. That said we were doing 7" logs so that does mean more cut than larger logs.

    Hope that helps

    Richard

  22. Just spotted this [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12aZxiBucWU]YouTube - PackFix[/ame] Looks like a good idea if a little flimsy in construction. I'm thinking a digger, forklift or even log grab crane would work well instead of the frame work.
  23. Also of note is Part 7 of Schedule 2 to the GPDO
  24. Off the top of my head its contained in the GPDO & also TAN6e rings a bell but that might be Wales only. Oh yes I'm good But note the lack of holding sizes for forestry
