  1. Or your Mum & Dad or big brother / sister?
  2. Yes, very sure (apart from the 50% bit, even if it actually works out to that in practice anyway) From HERE So with a car of 1500kg unladen & 2000kg MAM you can have a trailer of 1500kg MAM.
  3. Not quite. You could have a trailer & car combo that has a total gross train weight of less than 3500kg as long as the trailer loaded weighs less than 50% of the tow car unloaded. So a car that has a kerb weight of 2000kg (and a gross plated weight of under 2500kg) can tow a trailer with a plated weight of 1000kg all on a post 97 non trailer car licence.
  4. As has been said, filling them into a static bag results in under filling them by quite a lot (est 25%). We now fill in to the bag whilst its hanging on a round bale handler on a tractor front loader so its just touching the floor. We then shake it at about 75% full & again at 95% till it wont settle any more. The bags are now very solid, square & stable.

    His prices have gone up.

  6. A loss of 3kn when incorrectly loading it does not seem bad at all to me. A full on cross loading rating would be 7-9kn & open gate a similar amount. For it to cope till 21kn is good not bad.
  7. Dont forget that you will be paying 20% VAT & if VAT registered you will be selling it at 5%. If your not already you should go VAT registered.
  8. What would a blade cost?
  9. You can search for unsold items on ebay you know.
  10. If you want a real big one after seeing one in action today a Jenz Hem 700 is the dogs danglies. Mind you they are not cheap. Here is a LINK to some pics I took of it in action. It filled an 18.5m3 trailer in less than 6 mins. It used to take 2 of us all day to do the same with a PTO chipper.
  11. Read some threads on here about firewood sales. You will soon see that most on here sell by either m3 or by the load (which is a volume) apart from the chancers that are selling "tonne" bags. I dont know anyone that sells by an accurate weight (IE weigh bridged) at a guaranteed moisture content. Why is weight more scientific than volume? Unless you can guarantee that the moisture content is consistent through the log & full load doing it by weight will not be scientific.
  12. When all of you that said no discount for large orders buys in cord wood do you pay the same price when buying 100 tonnes as some one that buys 1 tonne? Some how I doubt it yet it took the same effort for the seller.
  13. But its sold by volume.
  14. Yes I am. Not that that affects needing a certified or chartered accountant. I dont have to be any more as our turnover is very low. So I am voluntarily registered as we in the main get refunds each quarter as our main sales are VAT exempt, 0% & 5% bands with just my contracting at the full 20%.
  15. Not true at all. I have been self employed (as an individual & also as a company employing up to 5 people) for over 15 years & have done all of my accounts myself. Cant remember the exact rules on having to have them done by a certified accountant but I think its for large turnovers, LTD & Corporations.
  16. Chill & forget the trees. They wont make the day any more special. Just up the flower order a bit.
  17. Wont the chippings be too wet? Especially if you are getting paid by the output kWh. A mate has just set up doing wood chip but they are buying in dry wood to chip. They are still charging by the volume but are just about to change over to output kWh once they can agree a rate with the buyer. Seems an odd way of doing the billing to me as they get paid for the actual energy going into the heating system not the energy that goes into the burner. As the best I can see the system running at is 80-85% they loose 15-20% best case & prob more like40% worst case. So if the system is running badly due to lack of servicing or just how its set up & used they get paid less. Cant see any other utilities charging by the unit less the efficiency of the equipment you use. What would be a fair price for delivered chip per m3 tonne (at a specified moisture content) kwh delivered (would incur test costs) kwh out put as measured by the burners meter All inc delvery costs
  18. Hot glue gun? Or a hot knife on the outside if you can strip it?
  19. IF its forestry & not Arb then you actually have MORE permitted development rights than Agri & you need less land to gain them. Plus hobby forestry counts so small scale stuff is not an issue.
  20. Good for kindling & as the main fuel. Its sort of half way between soft & hard woods. You do go through the volume of it as its so light when dry.
  21. Forget booms use a 4m+ wide pattern single point nozzle. linky 2nd linky
  22. I have one similar to that one but it has the wide spray single nozzle which is much easier to use near fences, trees ect & when going in & out of gates.
  23. Ah as you already have other tanks on site then yes you need a bunded one. Not because the others are bunded but because the "site" is storing more than the allowed amount (1500L for agri use, 2500 for new domestic use). If its inside a building you also dont need a bunded tank. There is or was an exemption for temporary tanks of upto 1000L but cant find that bit now. Oil Storage Regulations
  24. For 1000L you dont have to have a bunded tank.
  25. Do any of you use the Fig 9 knot? Its just as easy to tie as the fig 8 but will undo after loading easier.
