  1. We have a Rayburn SFW 212 that has a thermal store connected to it. That provides all our hot water & minimal "wet" heat via the rads. We have the rads come on for two one hour periods each day to warm the bed rooms. The main living areas are heated by the Rayburn its self or the Little Wenlock wood stove. The boiler output on the SFW212 is just 2kw. As its run all day (and will stay in over night most nights) it can collect the energy slowly for releasing when its needed. I guess that it can make about 25-30kwh per day.
  2. BOC have a special offer on for low users. Its called the "volkzone" offer. It is NOT avaliable from distributors. You have to phone head office & speak to Justin. He will open the account at your local place. It works out very very cheap. Off the top of my head its about £35 year rental & £28 ish for refills with NO handling charge each time you get a refill. Got to go out now but can dig the details out when I get back in later if its of any help. (or register on MIG Welding - The DIY Guide forum & do a search)
  3. It wont be the heat from the drill bit causing the motor to burn out. It will be the very slow speed its running at getting it hot & having to low an air flow through the casing. Get a drill that has a geared slow speed setting that is not trigger controlled.
  4. Ideally I would go for a Lister unit. Problem is I have one neighbour about 250m away that complains about the noise. We did have a similar unit to the Pramac but not in the sound reduction case so was more like 90-100dba @ 7m than the 50 ish for the P6000s. He moaned about that one loads but has never mentioned it since we got the Pramac. I am also looking at a smaller units (2.5kva) that could just run the charger & then use a tractor PTO mounted genny for the occasional big stuff. Or considered DC only units.
  5. Can you not get them to let you fell but keep to all the rules that would apply if they were diseased? Then when given the all clear your good to go.
  6. There are no minimum sizes for Permitted Development for woodlands. Unlike agriculture / farming that has two different levels of PD depending on size. The size of the building just needs to be suitable for the area of woodland.
  7. 1, I agree it prob is the best in its price range, just it could be better supported by the importer. None of the failures were fixed under warranty. 2, Not at all. Normal run times are 6-9 hours straight every 3 to 4 days in winter. In summer it get occasional use but still long run times. We try to keep the load to about 3/4 of its cont rating. Its now just over 26 months old & has done just over 2400 hours. What do you think needs doing as part of the major overhaul? I change the oil at half the recommended running hours. Whilst starting is still easy & quick its not quite a sharp as it once was.
  8. If the spec & quality was the same then yes. I would guess that the delivery would kill it as our wood is local.
  9. How much can you do in a "day"? How many hours in a day?
  10. Made by DMM in Llanberis North Wales.
  11. I would recommend not getting a Pramac P6000s. I have had loads of trouble with mine & the UK importer wriggles out of any warranty claim. In the space of 2 years mine has needed within warranty main control panel 1 starter motor battery 1 set of capacitors In the second year out of warranty 1 starter motor over 10 flying diodes 2 more sets of capacitors the optional extra at huge cost AVR unit (now running without AVR but voltage is much less stable) Plus it needs reflashing each time a diode fails (physical not electrical failing) That said I do still like the unit as it has some nice features like the low fuel stop, easy drain engine oil, hand & elec start, quiet running, large fuel tank, central lifting eye. Would I buy another? No. Edit to add, I also changed the battery to starter motor leads as they are too thin as standard for deep winter starting.
  12. I'm gonna guess & say he means when they need managing (IE culling). Should be good money for a shoot doing boar hunts.
  13. Its on this Sat. I think they are full but you could always email them & ask. I will PM the email address to you.
  14. I am off to the factory next week to have a look round on one of their open days. They will still be making stuff during the tour. Should be an interesting visit.
  15. Cant you just go for a higher ply rating tyre in the same size?
  16. Are you over tightening the chain?
  17. I have the same saw with an 18" bar & it copes with working hard all day & prob use 5 to 8 refills. I do keep the chain very sharp. Is it def smoke or could it be steam? Cutting down the log will make it work harder.
  18. Plus your recovery rate will be lower & the "wastage" higher.
  19. If she is a proper accountant having a CCJ will screw up her job.
  20. This news might help
  21. Dont forget to inform DEFRA (I think) that you are taking the land out of agri use.
  22. Ours are normally 18" long & between 6" & 12" wide in 1" increments.
  23. Very very heavy when freshly harvested. Dries very quick & very light.
  24. Whats your flue / chimney like? Might spend more sorting that out.
  25. I am sure I saw one bit that was rotten in the middle when the cut was exposed.
