  1. You can always have the right hooks fitted.
  2. Save yourself lots of work & cut them with a better (more suitable) saw.
  3. Oh yeh I forgot they folded recently. I guess that explains the higher costs of the units that are left. We will have a bigger budget for the next one so could be looking at the smallest industrial units.
  4. What about the noise of the lister? We live 10m away from where the genny lives. But also have a neighbour that would complain about the noise, as they did about our first genny (one of the clones) but not the P6000s. I have seen the effort some have had to go to to try to reduce the noise. 2 ton on concrete to bolt it too. Pit of doom for the exhaust to run through deep concrete & block channels under ground Very substantial block building with insulation. Ducted cooling system to allow air flow but leak not noise. Oh & wearing ear defenders when in the room.
  5. So its nearly time for a new Generator for our off grid set up. Requirements:- diesel pref 1500 rpm quiet, very quiet, sub 60dBa. easy to maintain easy to fix stable voltage on large loads coming on & off 5 to 10 kVa single phase low fuel consumption elec start low oil shut down low fuel shut down over heat shut down reliable long expected life So which one?
  6. The often do open days with a guided tour. Dint do one last year but we went the year before. Very interesting. If I hear (I know one of the directors) that they are doing one this year I will post it up.
  7. Good job its cone shaped. Will hurt less once she is fed up of you ringing it.
  8. Just thought. If you have a shuttle gear box then forward & reverse gearing would be the same.
  9. In the correct direction they are self clearing so better on soft ground. On hard ground it make no difference. If the ground is that soft you need self clearing tyres then your already in trouble. As far as I am aware all reverses are lower geared than 1st gear on all vehicles. I know on my two tractors I go much much slower in reverse than in the lowest forward gear.
  10. I was going to ask the same question. Much better to reverse as the rear wheels will stay on the ground, lower gearing & you can see exactly what's going on whilst still in the best driving position. It also reduces the risk of getting hit by the cable if it snaps or the tree if your line is to short.
  11. One of the big problems with off grid sewerage systems is that most set ups also have the rain water drains (roofs & run off) going into the tank. They just don't have the capacity to cope with that.
  12. For some reason on reading this I thought of you lot linky
  13. You can blame most of these issues on the sellers of cheap stoves. They say most of the wood they will get will be cheap or even free. Then go on to say to only burn wood of type X.
  14. Actually the pint is a great example. If the barman poured it with a 25% head, are you still getting a pint? The glass is full at point of service yet if left for a short while you only have 0.8 of a pint.
  15. The best test to see if they are really full is after they have sat seasoning for a year stick one bag on your trailer & go for a drive. If it moves or settles then its under filled. I still dont think that bulging side actually give more volume. The material cant stretch so any bulge will shorten the length in another direction. Push the centre out & the corners pull in.
  16. Make sure that you are shaking the bags well when you fill them. Done well they are a solid cube with straight edges & stack neatly. Just holding the bags open under fills them by 20-25% & when stacked the look terrible.
  17. Do they all stop working before the bar oil runs out?
  18. My youngest is really into rock climbing. She competes quite a lot & we take her to the "local" walls as often as we can (once or twice a week). As with most things to get really good you need to do it 3 or 4 times per week. We just cant afford that (she gets in to the walls free its the travel costs that hurt) so I have started to make her a small home training board. It is made of Oak & will be fitted above a door way. Will also be making a few other training bits as well. Just need to remember not to oil finish it lol.
  19. Yet oddly a burglar or treaspasser gets the full rights yet was not invited or given a licence......
  20. 3/4" thick or wide? They look more like a few mm thick in the pics. If they are 3/4" thick then that about right.
  21. I have no idea about your problem but would suggest that your stickers are a little on the thin side for good drying.
  22. Also a good time to note that from next year anyone that has employees has to file the NI & Tax returns for each payment as it happens (IE in real time so weekly for weekly paid employees) & not just once per year as you do now. HM Revenue & Customs: Operating PAYE in real time
  23. IF you are 100% firewood then you can be cheaper (or make more money) if you ARE VAT registered.
  24. You buy wood at £100 plus 20% vat & sell at £300 plus 5% vat What happens is this:- You pay £100 + £20 VAT to your supplier Your supplier pockets the £100 & pays the £20 to the VAT man (minus his VAT purchase costs) Your customer pays you £300 + £15 VAT You pay the VAT man the sum of your VAT collected minus the VAT you paid out, so the VAT man PAYS YOU £5 as well. So your profits INCREASE by being VAT registered. Add in all the other bits you can claim back the VAT on (fuel, oils & tools) & you should be much better off being VAT registered.
  25. 2.42m cubed is actually 14.7m3 I think you mean 2.42 cubic meters or 2.42m3. £50 per m3 does seem very low.
