  1. Wyn does have woodland in that general area.
  2. That pile might last you 2 years if you are lucky. We used that much over 2 years & ours did not do the rads just lots & lots of hot water & all the cooking. Kitchen was toasty mind.
  3. My personal logs are 7" as we only have an Aga little wenlock & a Rayburn. But one customer wants 15" logs for there stove. So the bulk of what we prep is 7" & then we do about 6m3 in 15" which is pre ordered. Anyone just turning up gets the 7" like it or lump it. We do it that way cos we cut & split when green.
  4. Unless you just do firewood. Or lots of firewood & less other works. For every £1 plus VAT you spend you can sell £4 plus vat in firewood & still have NO VAT bill. Or for every £1 plus VAT you spend you can sell £1 (plus VAT) of firewood & £0.75 (plus VAT) of services & still have no VAT bill.
  5. Its f ing freezing, well it was last week. The wood inside was frozen to the floor. But then it still has no heating or roof insulation in yet or even wall covering & celling in one room. Once its all done it will be warm & not need much heating. Yeh saved a lot but has still been a costly job. Bought the timber in the round & milled it all up & planned all the interior wood too. Yes its a Forester Jacko mill one of the first I think. I am very lucky cos it lives just down the road from me & I do some work with the bloke. He had the shingle maker made locally. I think he said it cost about £500 ish. It takes 5 block's at a time up to about 12" wide so you can do the 6-12" range that you need. Reasonably fast with two people on the job but a pain with one as you have to keep flipping the lever & adjusting the loose / cut shingles as the blade does move them till you get a pile going.
  6. Yes, More pics HERE if you want a look. Need to add more as we have done a bit more since I last updated it.
  7. Stack shingles in piles of the same width This is those shingles being fitted. Sorry having FTP problems will fix it ASAP
  8. First you need to mill up your tree into a D shape & then cut in to 18" (if you are doing 18" shingles) blocks. The width of the D can vary as you will need a selection of widths to shingle a roof. Then fit them to your shingle adapter on your mill. (dog is optional) Then run the mill through them remembering to flip the lever after each run to alter the angle of the block. Repeat till you get to the bottom of the pile
  9. Google the part number
  10. If you are just doing firewood you should be. Every thing you buy has VAT on it at 20%, yet every thing you sell has it at 5%. You get to sell 4 times what you spend before you will pay any VAT to the tax man. Under 4 times & you get a refund. Daft not too.
  11. Why? You can claim it all back. The VAT increase should not impact retail firewood prices at all.

    prices.

This is what the VAT man says So free (or rolled up in the price) del is fine (re 2.2) as is delivery charged seperately at the same rate as the goods (re 2.3) BUT if you del other peoples goods its full rate (re 2.4)
  13. Thats what I thought. Does it matter if you coil up or down the rope? You still end up with a coil round the rope.
  14. Normally when using a helicoil you reuse the existing bolt as after you increase the hole size with the combined drill/tap you sleeve it back down with the insert. I guess you bought the wrong kit for the job. I dont know if they use standard sized taps. Would it not be easier to just get the correct bolt for the kit you have got?

    prices.

Your suppliers should be charging you the full rate of VAT for the wood & delivery. However you can do as you are & include the delivery as an incidental at the same domestic rate of 5%. If you offered the delivery as an extra then the full rate would apply.
  16. Not sure yet. We are snowed in so if it does not clear it will be whatever we have in the freezer which could be beef, pork, lamb, mutton, chicken, duck or a fresh killed capon (extra extra large chicken) from the few we have left. We had suckling pig last year which was very nice. Will also have a glazed ham on the bone.
  17. They are already available on the internet.......
  18. You need enough to split the size of logs you sell plus a little bit. Even though on most logs you dont need the full travel you will on some & it then becomes a pain to work the splitting head through the log by adding planks under the log if the ram cant do it. I think mine does about 18".
  19. The oil can froth / go milky when the oil has to be forced through the filter as its well past needing changing.
  20. Check the bag label. Some are rated for more than one use.
  21. Could be the pump on its way out. Very similar to the symptoms by tractor had when its pump needed changing. But check the filters & oil levels/condition first as I have had that as well.
  22. A small mains fan will be LOADS cheaper even after paying for 100 years (number out of hat) worth of electricity.
  23. Is there any mileage in drilling it in a few places to see if its rotten inside? If so & its not rotten how do I seal up the holes?
  24. This is wales we dont do dry, in fact its a quite wet site. This summer has been quite wet. Last year it had a bumper crop of beech mast nuts, this year it did not fully leaf up, poss only 40-50% leafed up compared to the others on the same site that also had a good year last year. Elevation is about 100m above sea level. We are on a peninsular so almost surrounded by the sea 2-6 miles away. Wildlife / amenity woodland. The problem is that the drop zone is the parking spot that is in use every day & the tool shed (but that is being moved soon) so if it does fall naturally the chance of it doing real damage or hurting someone is there. If we have to fell it I would mill it up to be used on site.
  25. Thanks I will look all that up to see if its bad news.
