  1. Say you had a large site which covered around 10 hectares and within that area you have maybe 5 seperate woodlands. You are allowed to take 5 cubic mtr in a quarter, is that from every wood or the site overall, the exemptions do not seem to make this point clear.
  2. We have a job just south of Heathrow at a place called Ashford which is M3/M25. We have a couple of large Leylandii to take down and a few other little bits and bobs, there will be approx one 7.5 tonne lorry load of woodchip (or two transit loads) and about the same amount of wood. We are looking for some one to give us a hand and dispose of the arising's locally. Job is ASAP. Bob 01902 892652
  3. this may help or it may make things seem more complicated, para's 2 and 3 appear appropriate with the final one making interesting reading and is not nice. EU tachograph regulation threat lifted for most landscapers Landscape bodies BALI and the European Landscape Contractors Association (ELCA) have "breathed a collective sigh of relief" after the European Parliament decided to exempt lighter vehicles used by tradespeople from new tachograph regulations. Companies with vehicles of up to 7.5 tonnes who work exclusively within a radius of 100km (62 miles) from their company base and who use the vehicle to transport material, equipment and machines required by the driver of the vehicle to carry out his or her work, are exempted from the requirement to install a digital tachograph, the Parliament decided this week. The vehicle driver must not be a full-time driver to benefit from the exemption to the new rules, formerly passed yesterday, which were brought in to improve road safety and driver working conditions. The victory came after ELCA and its members lobbied for the exemption. BALI is the UK representative body within the association and said the news will come as a huge relief for a large number of companies working in the landscape industry. ELCA president, Emmanuel Mony, is happy about the compromise achieved: "We succeeded in convincing the members of the transport committee to make the installation of digital tachographs obligatory for lorries above 7.5 tonnes only," he said. "Decreasing the weight limited would have had a massive financial effect on the gardening and landscaping companies concerned." BALI technical director Neil Huck, who is also a vice president of ELCA said: "This success demonstrates the importance of BALI’s representation within ELCA. The voice of the UK landscape industry must be heard when decisions made at European level can have such a potentially damaging impact on landscaping businesses. There will be a collective sigh of relief as this news filters through." Under the revised rules, smart tachographs will be fitted to new vehicles within three years once the European Commission has set out the technical specifications. Fifteen years after that, they will have to be fitted, or retrofitted, to all vehicles used for professional transport. The "smart" tachographs, will be able to automatically record speed and distance, start and final location. They will also enable downloading and remote checking, via wireless data transmission to control authorities, for easier detection of misuse or manipulation. No fines or sanctions can be imposed solely on the basis of remote-control checks but the new system will help reduce roadside checks for companies and target rogue operators
  4. The wheels are not the determining factor it's how it can ultimately be moved, how many sections it can be moved in and a few other details. Smallwoods article.pdf Smallwoods article.pdf

  6. I find the enforcement of BS 5837 is a complete and utter joke, the amount of developers that get away with inadequate TPF is beyond belief. I turned up on a site on Monday to find the TPF gone (which was not to spec anyway) and a 30 tonne digger merrily working away within the TPZ, several branches had been ripped off a 200 year old Oak. I see this type of thing on a regular basis.
  7. I thought flashing headlights meant theres a speed camera about!!!!
  8. FLASH FOR CRASH You pull up at a junction coming on to a busy road. A kind motorist flashes his car lights to let you out. You wave back and pull out in front of him. His car promptly crashes into you, causing extensive damage to both cars and the ‘kind motorist’ (as well as the other passengers in his car) also appears to be complaining about a possible whiplash injury. Welcome to ‘flash for crash’, the latest scam to impact the beleaguered British motorist. It’s part of a growing family of motor insurance fraud tactics that includes the ‘cash for crash’ scam where fraudsters hit the brakes hard (sometimes removing their brake lights too) in a bid to force an innocent driver to crash into them. The Insurance Fraud Bureau calculates that it’s costing the insurance industry nearly £400 million every year. Always follow the Highway Code Anyone driving for business or outside work can help ensure they don’t fall victim to this crime by following the Highway Code, which states: ‘Never assume that flashing headlights is a signal inviting you to proceed’.
  9. We have a small job in Tonbridge Wells next Tuesday 28th and wondered if anyone would be interested in lending a hand, we need some where to tip the wood and woodchip locally so if you have a truck and chipper and ideally a stump grinder that would be great. Bob 01902 892652
  10. I had an e mail from a dealer just before Xmas, they had 6 of these available and looked just like the one in your post and were around that price, I will try and find it in the morning if I get 5 mins.

    Forst

They are an exceptional machine, ours even works in extremely wet conditions. Forst sunk.jpg
  12. We have had our tracked Forst the same length of time and it certainly lives up to expectations, the lads at Redwood seem well chuffed with their machine and offer a good back up service, we quite often get a call asking how it's doing. The conversation doesn't last long because there's not much to tell.
  13. We have ours serviced once a year and normally take it back to A C Price, we do interim repairs as and when they are needed, this years service came to just over 6k but we know its done to the highest standard. On top of that is the loler test for the crane plus we have two muller mitadel trailers which need maintence so this year will be around 9/10k JCB 1.png JCB 2.png
  14. In a statement, the police said: "While we are pleased that two tractors have been recovered and that arrests have been made, we do not want anyone to put themselves at risk of harm." I knew that statement was going to be there before I started reading the article. I have been in a similar situation myself, we had some saws stolen, I found out where they were and told the police, they could not act because I could not provide evidence, I couldn't tell them who told me for obvious reasons so that was that. To be honest the police are pretty useless in these situations and I speak from vast experience.
  15. Just as an aside, I put in a planning application once to build some stables, one of the questions on the form was "what colour will the finish be", now this was a timber structure in the country so I put "green roof with brown sides, front and rear" thinking the most neutral colours for a countryside building, they wrote back and said "you can only have green"!!!.
  16. You could try this approach, providing you meet the criterea of course. I have done it. agricultural_prior_notice.pdf agricultural_prior_notice.pdf
  17. Not so, we used to do railway work through the 90's and had a Land Rover 130 V8 and put a 6" chipper on the back, it was demountable so we could tow it behind the Land Rover when we didn't need it off road and had a conversation plate made so we could also mount the chipper on a 4x4 dumper. We could take it along the line together with men and tools. Unfortunately I don't have any pic's that I can find but it was truely a crackin bit of kit.
  18. A few pics of our DAF, the problem with having the crane mounted where it is on the back is it limits the length of timber it will carry unless you can tow a trailer. DAF is a good truck but it's not a Unimog and never will be or do the same amount of work. 2013-02-16 16.24.27.jpg 2013-02-16 16.24.42.jpg 2013-02-18 16.04.43.jpg 2013-02-18 16.04.52.jpg
  19. We can do it but you would need to bring it to us, we are 4 miles south of Wolverhampton in Wombourne. Bob 01902 892652
  20. I am surprised that 'topping' conifers or hedges generally is not covered by any college course I have ever been on considering the amount of work it produces. My advice to customers is, keep the bit which gives them their privacy and anything above that may as well go as it serves little purpose and cost's more to maintain, so if they need 10' to hide the factory next door then no point in having them 20' tall.
  21. Just to clarify, you would not run your entire house off this during a power failure unless you had an agreement with your electricity supplier is that correct?
  22. ours went up in flames just before Xmas and we haven't had chance to replace it yet, we did have one off A Plant a while ago but it's like dealing with the cast from the muppet show
  23. I have tried the boots for a couple of years but not had them nest in one yet, the smell must be gone by now:confused1:.
