1. to keep a wood burner in at night you will need a good depth of ash in the stove, I never clean mine right out always burn on old ash/embers. I close my air flow down but i dont shut it, the damper stays about 5/10mm open, dont really change this setting when burning. I am running a charwood as bobb mentioned and they are superior burners compaired to a villager. In the morning i have real dry wood/ kindling available often left near to burner over night to make sure its DRY! open up burner remove 50% ash trying to leave the glowing bits, lay kindling on embers and open her up to around 3/4 air supply, within 1-2 mins she will be roaring, close her down load up and job done. One tip make sure you use a metal ash bucket otherwise you can leave a trail of hot ash through the house!!!
  2. Horse chestnut will produce a blue liquid to . I would say horse chestnut.
  3. heavy duty hand cleaner wipes. work a treat and nice n easy to use. get a nice shine too
  4. i rekon i could get it down alot quicker! CLICK! booom!!!!! lol No great gesture for the donation, a real good cause to. Nice work
  5. get a normal bag of logs tip them out and stack them back in the bag the bag will only be 75% full. Impossible to sell acurate amounts of a volitale changeable commodity, weight no good because of moisture volume no good because of log size and compaction. number of logs no good because of log size. As long as you and customer is happy then alls well.
  6.

i see on the forum u are sorted, thats great news.

Versalift a real top notch company.

Interesting about the not stopping on overlaod! , they are often the other way and stop for no reason then again it did have my fat arse in the bucket!

  7. now stack the logs in the bag and see how full it is, you are selling 0.75cubic meter of logs and 0.25 cubic meter of AIR. Only joking but unless there is continuity with the product then you will never get the same in each bag. Thats why sand / gravel has space at the top. would be interesting to see a bag ful of stacked logs , just to see how much space around the logs there is!!

  11. I hope you are refering to windblown soft wood being down for 3 years? no problems cutting hardwood that has been down for 3 years, currentlly clearing a beech been down for 4 years and still solid all round. even where the fungi was and around the splits it`s fine. Even mussy hard wood i.e oak, beech, sycamore or even ash still burns ok if dried out, Not the best to sell but fine to burn.

    357xp misfiring

worth a check to make sure plug cap is on lead propper and lead is not split, this will short out on metal around engine. If it bogs down then goes it does sound like fuel. Not the first time to have a new Knackered plug, is the gap ok on plug? what state is the plug in after running? only problem i ever had with my 357 was fuel pipe split from tank to carb but this makes it difficult to start and you get a wet leg when it starts leaking big time!
  15. dont over do it, splitting ya ring can be painfull!! good luck all, been looking into the long range forecasts from now until january, looking good for wood orders! could be a real cold spell mid January onwards! may be until mid febuary! so dont sellit all early!
  16. thank you both, just the situation we are in , local ag dealer is either Browns or Major. both look equally good, i do like the compact nature of the browns, will be putting on front linkage also am making a converter from 3 point to jcb so front of that as well. cheers Stoxs
  17. Looking for anyone using either Major Log splitter or the Browns of Leighton buzzard Splitter? Any info on either of these would be appreciated. will be using tractor spools as power unit . Many thanks in advance stoxs
  18. the Arbtalk charity!!!! There is enough knowledge and expertise on here to easily create a group what could be better for the arbicultural industry to show it`s not just about removing trees.
  19.
hey stranger, hope you are well m8, see ya ben busy!!

  20. what is the difference if you have the same PPE and training as the chainsaw operator? you dont go holding branches being cut 6inchs from saw , it is surprising how far away you can get if working togeather 2 meters no problem. cutting long branches 4 meters + from a bucket and man holding is on the ballance point he can hold it easy, this is for smallish branches you aint gunna hold a 6 inch round branch at 4 meters are you. chainsaw gloves were to be worn but yes there is little protaction in gloves. How do most instructors instruct felling if they are 2 tree lengths away? we did it for years and never had any problems, safer having someone else there sometimes than on ya own.
  21. none chainsaw operator had to wear chainsaw jacket when we used to do it on the powerlines, he could then hold n chuck as well, which made it really good if you both knew what you were doing, used to take new boys up as well got them used to operating mewp and cutting from buckets.
  22. I think the countys were 6000 series ford based tractors, should be easy to find any replacement parts. Think you will find the tin work fetches more money than and mechanical parts as this is the first to rot. go get it , if you don`t i will! good luck

  24. have been told this sort of tree is called a stool, these trees have been cut many time to a hedge or wall height but for the last xx years they have not been cut. basically very old pollards
  25. done a bit more research on this saw and i think it could be an olympyk 935. if anyone has a picture of this saw could they post it up please tried gooooooooooogle but nothing. age of saw around mid early 80s, a parts/ service manual for this would be great if anyone has one , tried all the usual web pages but nothing as yet. many thanks stoxs
