Hi All, I have recently bought a mechanical zig zag prusik, I havent used it yet and was wondering if anyone has got one and what feedback you have. I know there has been negetive comments by some, but could do with feedback from the users. When i bought it i was advised to buy buy 11.7mm rope instead of 13mm. Any comments are useful.

It says no trees to come within 1 tree length or to a minimum of 15mtrs. That's why we need to know when is a tree a tree, because a "tree" would cause damage if felled on to the power line, where as a sapling / regeneration for example would not cause damage, or should not cause damage

The reason I'm asking is with reference to AFAG 804, Electricity at work: Forestry and arboriculture. Do not fell a tree within 2 tree lengths of energised power lines. My argument is if the "tree" is only 4" in diameter and say 7ft tall, I wouldn't class it as a tree and therefore if it was 14ft from an energised power line it should be exempt??

Should I do anything with the flue damper?

Just a got a Villager A range burner. I can't get the hang of keeping it burning slowly through the night so I don't have to light it again in the morning. Any suggestions??

Paul It only say competent on the HSE guidelines. It doesn't say Level 4, the only think the "competent" person requires is should have enough appropriate practical and theoretical knowledge and experience of the lifting equipment so that they can detect defects or weaknesses, and assess how important they are in relation to the safety and continued use of the equipment; this is straight from the HSE website.

Again I think the HSE is very clear. It doesn't mean it's right and not everybody will agree, but that's what it is. And until it changes that's what we have to comply too as a minimum

Who would the law refer to if there was ever an incident, it would be the HSE

Is this not question the integrity of the inspector / fellow climber?
