  9. Using a porty for the first time Blocking down Reduction
  10. I used to use stubs just brought a isc big porty wrap i understand how the rope goes through it but how are some of you guys strapping it to the trunk. I can see many ways but whats the right way.
  11. Seek training any way you want but you wont beat working for a company looking learning and trying it for yourself. Tickets to me are nothing more than a piece of paper that allows me to do what i been doing for years. This hse red tape world makes me sick tbh most guys fresh from a course cant do jack yet they are allowed right into the commercial world of arb. But if you wanna nptc is all were interested in.
  12. This week i won three jobs where i was 20-30 quid cheaper. Then i lost one job as i was 40 quid to high My prices are as low as i will work for and to be beaten i know another firm is going to be working hard for little cash. I think the days of earning £500 a day are all but over. Like it or not its us guys who work in this industry that are knocking prices so low. But what do you do loose the job or lower the price. Who suffers us by working for pittance and the customer as jobs are rushed through. You can only do excellent jobs if you have the time and the money on the job.
  13. I sent in photos its for registration you get a card issued. Yes you do get an attendence lantra cert when you do your nptc courses.
  14. lantra is training towards nptc its not the same. get your nptc cs30-31-38-39 to meet the minimum required competence level.
  15. I would have spiked up half way then felled. But things can go wrong. Sounds like you had an almighty shite day. Respect you for sharing tho. Just gotta give yourself plenty of time and allow for extra time incase the weather etc dont go swell.
  16. I would never ring another tree surgeon to say by the way i got one of your jobs. That would piss any tree surgeon off period. We all win and loose jobs year in year out part and parcel.
  17. My stretch airs still going after a year no tears nothing my hiflex were crap crap crap wear out so fast outer material is rubbish exhaust burns right through them. SA are maybe a tad heavier but nothing that will bother any one they just last like 200 quid trousers should last.
  18. With more tree companies means lower pricing therefore we will end up going bust or working for really poor money. You can be superarbman with more kit than batman but if your prices are even £20 high your going to suffer. My thing is how are we meant to offer excellent jobs when people want to pay peanuts.
  19. YELL.COM cost £420 i think not very good. The future is a website followed by a very good rep.
  20. Be nice to do a crane job but to expensive for the hire compared to extra time on the job. Congrats on your first job completed with a crane bet it was a good bit of fun and a learning session.
  21. Been using stil normal redish pink oil now onto the green oil super one for the 4mix engines never had a saw seize ever. Maybe they are being worked to hard and not allowed to cool. Onlyuse stihl oil with stihl machines they designed the oil for their engines.
  22. I use splices used to use figure 8 knot with no fuss. My splices are factory made with twine or something stiched into it to stop it pulling out.
  23. Hey guys just crossed my mind how many of you does this work for i see so many tree companies in these books is there any money to be made advertising with them. business still advertise with them so it must be working i just wondered if any one had any experience with this. I personally dont ever use them i tried yell.com it cost me i earned nothing from it.
  24. I see what your saying steve. Just noticed one medium 3 truck company went bust first hit i guess now im seeing tree workers loosing jobs im getting alot of apps for jobs but i dont have enough for more than 3 men. I think were going for a rough ride. But like you say there is still work we might have to adapt ourselfs to suit tighter budgets.
  25. The next 18months are a very bad time to start freelancing i know every firm in my area and i know firms are not taking on no more people and not using subbies. A few mates have been made redundent as the work is slowing down. There is work about but more people are scramming for it.
