  1. lol thats so funny been there was digging out a stump spanked a nest felt this hot needle type pain in my arm next thing theres a mini swarm i stained my nickers run like hell jumped into the truck and would not finish the job hahaha.
  2. So whats you guys fav 13mm rope then i see somthing called arbormaster any good.
  3. Never cut my boots ever when i first started the very first day i was using a saw it had chain creep on tick over as a went to walk off it caught the new trousers and ripped a nice cut into them the lesson learnt was always put the chain break on. So to that end im very thankfull we have to wear protection as i proberly would not otherwise and have a nasty scar.
  4. Some one doing this for two years has proberly only just started to clmb imo. Getting up in the morning every day is a risk its called life.
  5. Just what i get from coming on here seams everyone has to have a cert.
  6. Did you make that yourself if so what type of weld mig ??.
  7. Has any one on here ever had a section fall after a timber hitch failure does the timber hitch have a limit or is the limit the ropes etc
  8. So are most of you guys using 11mm why do you preferr it over 13mm other than weight. It sounds hard on your fingers.
  9. I would always wear type c even if you dont have to im used to them and although they may not fully stop a saw you will more than likely keep the leg you hit. No protection no leg left. The only thing that bugs me is the nptc hse shite if i wanna train a boy they need cs30-31-38-39 WTF Why cant we train people ourselfs then after 3 years put them into the courses that way the sods wont leave as soon as you pay for the quals.
  10. True i cant image a little old boot stopping an 88. Still you could have steel sheet plates on top of the boot so the saw slides and cant dig in or kevlar. You should let us design a boot lol.
  11. I think people do overreact when chainsaws are involved. I have seen every tree surgeon i have ever met cut and hold at times. You just gotta stick to what your comfortable doing.
  12. Guys when you rig heavy limb sections with no branches ie smooth what hitches are you using Personally i use a half hitch then a timber hitch the half hitch guides the section and keeps it inline. I do sometimes worry that it could slip through under a big shock load as somtimes i cant avoid shocking loading. ??.
  13. We take risks every time we climb the experienced climbers have learnt how to limit exposure to these such events but you cant avoid them some time. Time is of the esence unfortunatly i know i maybe should not cut and hold but i also know in 5 years of doing it i have done my best to avoid injury. BUT it only takes one slip i would like to see peoples injurys it would help kick bad habbits all courses should have detailed pictures of why not to do things.
  14. I cut and hold some times but i always ready myself for kick back and make sure my arm is as far away from the blade. Then i keep the saw revving only as much as needed. But i only do this with small diameter branches i can easily manage any thing bigger i would rather rope down. Its the same as one handing we all do it so its a case of being aware of what your doing. I would never cut any where within an arms length saws slip and thats your lot.
  15. Same here have the usual truck chipper combo but do like the hassel free climbing for other companies. You guys get alot better trees to climb up north than down south our big ones are all but gone now.
  16. Best thing yeah i love them winter mornings really fresh crisp clear air. Or when im high up in winter and everything is white. Knocking out huge lumps and watching the rigging gear at work. Hate working with lazy people does my nogging in. I really slap myself when i underprice. I could never do a normal job after doing this. Take downs are just down right fun and you get paid happy days.
  17. Petey that does look like a fun climb is that your business set up or you subbin.
  18. LOL i did see that the bullshiiiittee some people come up with. 18pence that thing is useless hahaha.
  19. I tried to steer clear of this industry but since its in the family i was always going to be a tree surgeon which now im thankfull for i really enjoy this job and running my own biz it is very hard and stressfull when the work aint coming in but when it does i love it. Point is you will work ur arse off for shite money for quiet a while but its not all bad or there would not be so many tree surgeons. Again because surgeons are 10 a penny its hard for any good one to command more than £100 a day round this way the norm is £60-80 a day which is terrible.
  20. Why reinvent the wheel i say the timber hitch has always held for me. I use it on the timber im about to cut to just do a half hitch first.
  21. My pulley rates 7-1 so 10-1 is bomb proof 99% of the time lol. I got a 3000kgs isc pulley 16mm with 16mm double esterlon 7350kgs and a dead sling 16mm esterlon 2800kgs or pounds. So on that note my working limit should be 280kgs weakest link that is the snatch loading. I see alot of you guys block down and rope but i never found a need for that so the bigger trunk i just pop off. Any one else use similar rig.
  22. I either use a 3 tonne sling girth hitch or basket hitch although the latter needs a steel crab. Also a timberhitch i cant imagine getting an easier knot its almost unbelievable it works i was told 5 wraps and then pull tight to set also use stopper knot extra safe. What WWL is your guys pulleys strops just got 3 tonne pulley 2.8 tonne dead sling should cover all my needs how bout you guys.
  23. hahahaha Or throw logs at them.
  24. If you like if go for it i think the point should be this is a all or nothing game you need to put in 100% to get any where. Get your self some experience take on anything availible.
  25. I hate cheque i put a surcharge on cheques i tell the customer first tho. I am getting into the contracting side of arb now and to be honest it is such a pain in the arse always waiting for your money then its never on time. I think we should have a clause if not paid by an agreed date 20% of the total sum is added for the inconvienience haha.
