hi guys, I'm about to do my chainsaw quali's and I need to get a chainsaw, any advice on what is a good first chainsaw to buy? and where I can get a cheap one?

I also only get to go coupla times a year, caught the smallest bass in the world near bangor few months ago! 1 of only 2 fish we caught all weekend!!!

gee, I'd love to be in the financial position to simply drop everything and do a college course, unfortunately thats not the case. just to reassure you laz, I do think that if somethings worth doing, its worth doing properly. I have no intention of becoming a cowboy through lack of experience or qualifications, the moment I am in a position to further my knowledge I will be doing that by any means possible. However to gain that valuable experience which could be of great benefit to me on future courses, should I not start in the industry now? Or should I just keep slogging away in a job I hate where I cant save any money because the wage is too low and so I'll never be able to save the cash for the course I need? yeah.....thats a much better idea. Anyway thanks for the help and support guys, its been interesting and very helpful, next week I'm doing a week of work exp with a guy in nottingham, then its chainsaw qualifications followed by hopefully a job in sheffield, get some experience then as many qualifications as I can squeeze into my tiny mind! after that I'll be taking over the world....... cheers all!

christ.......perhaps i should jump into a warm bath with a razorblade right now then!!! to be honest all i want is a job that allows me to live reasonably comfortably and that i enjoy. I'm hoping that tree surgery is going to be that job. Up to now everybody has been positive about it saying its hard graft but great work. Sounds perfect to me. I'm not saying I wont be taking what your saying on board, but if i spent all my time not trying anything I'm interested in I'd live a pretty dull life. remember the idea is to work to live, not live to work

yeah it probably will cost a lot but my thoughts were that I was gonna need it all anyway, the course said it would provide some stuff but would prefer me to bring my own if poss. I'm doing the chainsaw and fell small trees courses. thanks for your help all!

hi, I'm just about to start getting some kit together for my chainsaw qualifications and I've been told I need this lot: Safety helmet inc ear defenders + eye protection chainsaw gloves chainsaw trousers chainsaw boots large wound dressing (that fills me with confidence!) chainsaw fuel/oil toolkit any advice on whats good and where to get it all?

sounds good to me. I cant really do anything at the moment tho, am waiting to find out whether I'm moving to sheffield or manchester, all depends on where the missus gets herself a job, she's got two interviews and I'll find out next week which one she got. Until then I'm stuck waiting!!!!
