  1. Sorry to read all this Jonny .I hope the new year brings you better fortune.
  2. skyhuck correct its not mature trees. ie my comment on all an sundry.Keep forgetting that its a forum where you have to teach granny to suck eggs. I would have thought that all of us on here have an interest in this subject and would read up from the fc websites etc for there own knowledge and also for the benefit of customers. All the information is out there at a click of a button and from the horses mouth

    split oak

Fell it, plant a new tree.
  4. Well we can be grateful of one thing, that there hasn't been a knee jerk reaction too fell all and sundry. Nature is doing its thing. Sad in a way but as you say Morten I am sure some will survive.
  5. If a site is found with an infected tree it has to be burned or buried it can be burnt as logs at the property if one is on the infected site. But any movement of site is prohibited.
  6. Top job, Painting over to cover up pruning wounds so it looks like it hasn't been pruned ! Made me feel a bit sick first time I watched it too. I hope he recovers soon though, next time maybe a throw line and leave his spikes in the truck. If there is a next time.
  7. got it simple lol especially as Rupe says the line is taught...just having one of those moments !!
  8. Right I do agree to a point but I'm having trouble getting my head around this after sitting in bed..... I'm on a stem on spikes with my pulley on far side under where I will gob, I attach rope to stem above gob with hitch then higher timber hitch, for arguements sake I'm chogging 8ft lumps. Now when a free falling object starts of it builds up velocity the further it travels the more it builds up I think it's called kenetic.... But I'm not a physics master.. The more speed that object gains through gravity the more pressure it will shock load? So as the lump is travelling the shortest distance the less load it will put on the pulleys rope etc? If for cog 's sake I move my hitch to just below COG and the stem hasn't a major taper that's an extra 3.5 ft of rope/travel and velocity = more shock load on kit. For the same reason you wouldn't hitch on the top and let it free fall 8ft of velocity surely it makes sense to have it as low as poss without the risk of it slipping off...... Can someone explain for me in laymans as I'm not getting it. But it is late! If you where anchored had hold of a rope tied to a car and it started to roll down a slight gradient it would be easier to pull against it to stop it in the first few seconds than if it ran away and built up momentum wouldn't it ? Now I am in need of my bed!!
  9. Ta Rupe eloquently put x 2 you knew what I was sort of getting at
  10. Basics but important Keeping a sling or timber hitch nr above gob / cut on chogging down etc via block so less travel for momentum to build on snatching keeping it controlled with less swing also helps groundie/kit.
  11. If its agri /tractor mog then cant carry anything but 2t of tools in the back.?
  12. Rich2484 'Just Wounderd if the clunk was normal' check your propeller shafts as they can clunk on take off or under power if shot
  13. Had a g shock for over a year now for work and it still going strong only thing it would undo and fall of my wrist when up a tree so not that good . Problem solved with an elastic band though bit bulky as well. Before used to get mwc watches, slim light but always smashed the face. Out of work my tag I've had since 96 so not bad value in the long run. Problem with that is where the strap pins go in the watch they slowly wear and enlarge the hole. Maybe time for a new one. Something nice about having a decent watch that lasts and as I don't wear any other jewelry it isn't that extravagant
  14. :001_tongue:lol see what i mean... How you doing now Andy?
  15. At the end of the day as long as your comfy it dosnt matter if your bum looks big ;-) As it would def look out of proportion if you cut your legs off. In fact I think from reading most of the replies you want a pair that does make your bum huge otherwise there will be daily fights on site as to who foots your ladder
  16. I would consider sticking with it and hit the 30yrs if possible, If it is unlikely that your pensions safe maybe a move to security Private / banks etc. obviously we don't know where you transferred after your initial beat but if you have experience in close/royal protection for example the above transition in the above would be easy. Maybe the thing you are looking for is staring you in the face? As for arb age is not the problem it's experience and you would be pushed To get your wage, you seem to have been promoted at some point for that wage So you must be good at what you do. Maybe investigating war crimes or the like as many ex coppers do and get well paid. Can you not take a new direction in your job or move to the country side ? Get out of the smoke drive a landi and still have your blues n twos and be more part of the community rather than a number in the met? Who knows... Only you but I'm sure people on here will give you good advice on all your questions Good luck
  17. It most probably die back , if we have a hard winter. Is that a squirrel drey on the right?

    poor pay

I worked for LA 's all over the place 20yrs ago the pay wer'nt great but it got my foot in the door , kit supplied and ended up being offered a permanent position with One. It was good fun and worked with all skills and gave me confidence For a college leaver it's a great position and shouldn't be knocked and if your hungry it could be the beggings of well who knows...... A Cv for a start
  19. No problems with it, only thing was the battery but I told you that. Good truck that mate. Look after my kit n never sell a wrong Un
  20. What! You've broken my old truck ? I will be about nxt week if your still stuck
  21. To be honest its not really a 110 is it....? The range rover chassis and disco where the same but its not trying to be one of those. I wouldn't touch it, on the tippers they have reinforced chassis around the tip point and helper springs and built for the job. The gear stick looks too far back, up the jacksee of the middle passenger. bodge job
  22. Thanks for posting.Being motile it seems there is a big challenge ahead especially how quickly it had spread from 2009. I am based in the SE and lots of the places I work have a lot of the host species and ornamental rhodies etc Im sure its only a matter of time it becomes wide spread this way. I guess ur on the money ,cleaning of equipment between sites will be the way forward for us to do our bit maybe even become part of method statements for all contracts
  23. Many a dog you will find in a dogs home p******g at every raised voice and cowering through abuse. oh maybe I made that up cause after all they don't fear or associate through memory just take it and live happily ever after I could only watch so much more holes in that than a t bag
  24. Get it especially as you have a past connection with it and of course it's cheap enough to recoup any outlay back from scrap value if it's shot.
