  1. Flowfit do hoses pretty cheap delivered in a couple of days if it’s not a ‘need it yesterday’ job. But be careful with their online hose-builder as the fitting sizes default to a menu-spec so you can end up with odd ends if you aren’t careful. I keep toying with a hose crimper - will probably invest this year.
  2. Sounds incredibly cheap for a new rear axle - bargain!
  3. If it needs a different rear diff ratio surely it will also need a different front diff ratio too?... Sounds like it could quickly become expensive...
  4. Fortunately the waders didn’t fit me!!
  5. Winching trees over into a river for ecological and hydrological reasons - it was a lot of fun!... B90B2574-89DE-429D-BEBD-F3EFF3A4FC15.MP4
  6. I’d tread very carefully with second hand MEWPs - I bought a couple of older Teupens and the UK service agent was useless/not interested in the slightest (even though I spent thousands with them), but was the only firm set up to deal with circuit-board issues (of which there were plenty)... If you can make it work financially then buy something that complex new with warranty - if not then I’d steer clear of ownership and hire when you need to. Whatever you do, avoid second hand Teupens!!!
  7. Love the duals. Is it a custom bracket to fit them or can you get it from SDF? Just an old set of Stocks - I welded some hoops into the rims for the clamps to grab. They make a mess of the paint on the tractor wheels which is a downside, but the whole tractor could do with some TLC to be fair (the mulcher gives it a beating on some of the sites we clear).
  8. You need hired in plant insurance, which can be relatively expensive for one off hires unfortunately. It’s best taken as an annual bolt-on to your EL/PL policy where possible. I had a similar issue many moons ago and the cheapest way I managed to get cover was to take out an entirely separate PL insurance policy for landscaping through an online broker. The policy allowed different product bolt-ons (own tools, EL etc) - I bought what I needed and it worked out cheaper than adding HIP onto my existing tree surgery policy. You have to ensure the cover you take is enough for the value of what you are hiring in - in the event of a claim the insurers can reduce the payout by whatever percentage you are underinsured...
  9. I still rate mine!
  10. Go on the planning portal and look at permitted development. There are straightforward rules (height of building/size of plot/distance to boundary etc) which you will be able to check against what you propose. If you fall within the permitted development criteria then you can crack on. But you will need planning permission if you don’t meet all the requirements.
  11. This is exactly what’s wrong with the railways - you state that it ‘can be cheaper than driving’. It SHOULD ALWAYS be cheaper than driving. Bigger trains/more capacity/simplified transparent ticket pricing/subsidised (where necessary) fares to keep prices economically viable thus enticing people out of their cars. I rarely travel by train, but when I do I am (generally) impressed by its service/speed. However, my limited use has been disrupted by cancelled trains and I’ve experienced ridiculous overcrowding on tiny trains - doing a daily commute being exposed to the apparent lottery of standards certainly doesn’t appeal. And as for pricing - why is it that any time I want to buy a ticket for a previously travelled route the price will be different online/at the station/on the train? My family took the train to Manchester for the day over Christmas and there were 6 or 7 different prices available from the ticket machine for our return journey. Why?!?!!!!
  12. WhatisitwhatisitwhatisitwhatisitWHATISIT???????!!!!!!!
  13. Nooooo!!!!
  14. Think so, yeah. Not sure how many trees are left on the demo circuit though, it was looking a bit threadbare last time around! I’ll be there with my lads - a mate usually organises a bus so we can all have a drink. Not the height of professionalism but it’s a works day out on me so calls for a few scoops!
  15. What is crowning?
  16. 560 and 562 are essentially the same saws, just a different sprocket and air filter.
  17. We’ve had issues with some saws - a dealer plug in/software update has helped in the past.
  18. No - never heard of it tbh!
  19. And there we have it - 2 and a half pages of iTwat wankers!!!! X
  20. Ok, thanks. Do you know if the grants can be used with other training providers to get all the way upto artic licence? If so, are there any trainers that you could recommend?
  21. Do you do HGV training? If so, how much for the full-hit class 1 and 2? I’ve got a pre 96 licence (don’t know if that makes any difference or not)? I can use a Gwynedd address if it helps...
  22. Is there any reason why these are less than half the price of the Lenovo mentioned by Dan Maynard? Budget wise I thought I’d have to spend somewhere between £500 and £1000, but this has opened my eyes a bit (unless the HP here is cheap for a reason)?
  23. I’m going to buy a new laptop this week as mine is ancient and very very slow. It is something I know nothing about and have zero interest in researching (I find this sort of tech quite dull I’m afraid). Does anyone with more knowledge than me have any recommendations? It’s basically a work computer that needs to run office, be able to browse the internet etc etc. I’ll undoubtedly end up in Curry’s being oversold a load of tosh otherwise!... I know there will be people suggesting ‘Get an Apple you luddite’ and that isn’t something I’m totally averse to, but aren’t they £4 million (and far far more capable than I need)? I’ve got an old iPhone which is ok, but most of the people I know who have embraced the Apple way of life are forever remortgaging their houses as they have to have the latest version of whatever new flannel the Californian geeks are peddling. If anyone could enlighten me I’d be grateful!
  24. Is that taken as worst case scenario (ie crane collapse) or working envelope Eddie? The railway is not an industry sector I’m massively familiar with tbh. Decent modern crane (unlikely to not be at the size needed for this sort of reach) on a contract lift shouldn’t throw up any problems from what I can see. Nothing is slewing towards/over the railway - get the crane set up for the maximum radius necessary for the job (inboard of the property boundary should be more than adequate for this job from the pics) and no part of the crane can ‘accidentally’ end up railway-side. Line block for those few branches that appear to hang over the boundary, and get the whole team in the pub for early doors! £4k plus the cost of the line block, no more tree, happy days boys and girls! (Or the same price for a reduction!!!)
  25. Chop the timber out, leave brash where it falls and then run a mulcher over it.
