  1. That’s a wonderful machine! Gets rid of brash fast and keeps everyone on their toes, and quickly removes the less switched-on from the gene-pool. CE stickers can’t be too hard to get off eBay either!!!
  2. Genuine question (as I don’t know anything about these, but am interested in this thread) - can they discharge batteries at night etc? Can they be fitted to a battery that is in use, or just one disconnected and solely on charge?
  3. V8 or Cummins?!...
  4. Are the Isuzu engines no longer available, even for export? Sad times!
  5. I was getting excited hoping for a bigger 1928 (something like a 2542 sounds a good idea to me!)....
  6. Fill the oil up - sounds just like a low oil issue if it gets everything moving in the first place. The flowfit pumps are excellent value for money but make sure you get one with a big enough oil reservoir... Also, unless you pay quite a bit extra you will lose the manual pump facility with the flowfit version.
  7. @doobin is the man to ask, he swears by them and loves his Makita gear (I reckon if you cut him he would bleed blue!)...
  8. What’s the green beasty in the crate Pete?
  9. Yeah, normally fed from the hammer circuit with return-to-tank line open (where available). A lot also have a case-drain - ideally this feeds back to the hydraulic tank through its own free-flowing line but it can be tee’d into the return line in many cases.
  10. They are pretty resilient to hard pruning though, as long as you leave decent growth points. They can look really good once ‘cleaned’ out in fairness. It can be a bitch of a job though as getting what you cut off down to the ground tends to be a massive hanger-fest...
  11. We avoid cash for the same reasons as swinny - it’s a pain in the backside/costly to bank it. We invoice after leaving the job and are mostly paid by BACS (with the odd cheques here and there). The odd payments we receive in cash throughout the year I declare as dividends at the year end and spend as my own money as if comes in - this wouldn’t work if the amount of cash we took was high though!
  12. My understanding is that 30mph above the speed-limit is a mandatory ban in the uk (unless there is good reason such as needing your licence for work, whereby you can end up with lots and lots of points)...
  13. I’m happy with my maths and would gladly argue the position on the roadside (definitely no more than 3.5 tonnes officer - it wouldn’t fit in otherwise)...
  14. Were you working on behalf of/under instruction from BT (or whoever owns the phone line)?
  15. Get a software update (plug it in at the dealer) - we had similar issues with 560s that was cured after plug-in. Dealer reckons they should be done annually (that isn’t going to happen though!).
  16. Buy one of these (get the smallest/cheapest bar/chain - the powerheads are all the same but have different model numbers) and because you then will have subsequently bought Makita batteries and charger get one of these (which are excellent!) I toyed with going down the Stihl/Husky route but their battery systems are expensive one-trick-ponies. Makita make just about every power tool you can think of run from this system, batteries are (relatively) cheap, and the kit is great!
  17. I’m pretty sure this will be the short/medium term ‘answer’. Electric vehicles/batteries/storage infrastructure (treat each as the same) will be the norm to allow a buffer for electricity generation. The whole grid will work in both directions - when there’s demand parked cars will feed power back into the grid - during low demand/over-production everything will charge up. I really do find it incredible that tidal power isn’t being harnessed in a significant way though. It’s creation would unfortunately ruin a few localised ecosystems which is obviously massively unpopular. The longer term planetary benefits surely outweigh these issues - it is free, massive, predictable power that we don’t currently use in any way shape or form!!! Humans are fucking ridiculous!
  18. Consider a Makita double 18v battery saw (not sure of the model number and too pissed to investigate now). Double battery charger and 4 batteries would be more than adequate for a chipper saw. Good bit of kit and not crazy money.
  19. Looks a fantastic machine but the rusting-through respray really spoils it for me. Better either unpainted or done properly, that looks like someone has tried to hide something imo (which I’m sure isn’t the case as Ross/Sandhill Plant are very straight dealers). It is a superb package in our line of work though, but I’d be budgeting to get a load of panels repainted if buying.
  20. Ace vid, great kit!
  21. Not sure about the access on your Jensen but I give our chipper feed rollers a quick lick with a flap disk on a 4-1/2 inch battery grinder - makes a massive difference. It’s not a nice job and needs ear defenders as the feed hopper basically becomes a loud-haler that you are lying inside!
  22. What was the outcome?
  23. I’m blown away that dealers have enough saws available to chuck them out on demo for a week or two - these are relatively low value low profit items in reality. A few hours/a day demo fair enough, or give a saw to a potential big buyer (local authority etc) to try on extended terms so a few different operators can give feedback. 2 weeks demo to small outfits seems bonkers to me (different scenario with game-changing tech such as batteries, which is almost definitely manufacturer supported I’d imagine). Possibly Stihl will help the dealer network pushing this saw as I reckon they’ve got some market share to claw back from the 560/562 due to the 362 being a bit shit though...
  24. I’ve never heard of a dealer loaning out a demo saw, certainly not for a couple of weeks. I can’t see what’s in it for the dealer personally - be interesting to hear how you get on getting your hands on one.
