  1. I don’t know anything about timber prices but can get my head around supply and demand. If the seller can get that price for his oak then that is what it is worth I guess.
  2. Crappy news, sorry to hear this. On top of everything else install some security only you know about - don’t tell anyone who works with/for you as it could well be an inside job sadly. Also get some blank shotgun cartridge tripwire mines. Have you got power in there (no need to answer, just for consideration). If so, get CCTV if not already installed (you can watch it live on your phone), recording to a cloud-based server in case they take the hard drive. Don’t put signs up. You can set cctv up to send you a message on your phone if it detects any movement. Layer the security, and make it impossible to get in without making noise. Don’t just use off-the-shelf locks etc - get something made that would need to be cut with a grinder (noisy) to access any locks or hinges for example. Bolt croppers are silent but are no good if they can’t reach what needs cutting. If you catch anyone in the act, hide all evidence of them and you ever being there...
  3. Does this translate as ‘I want brown oak for less than £180’? Maybe post what your budget is and see if anybody can supply.
  4. Sounds like it might be sucking air into the system possibly when cold - check all connections between the pump and the tank.
  5. I’ve seen Mike today for the first time in ages - your bits are in the workshop being fabricated apparently!
  6. I’ve always used Flails Direct and have had no issues.
  7. Dunno if Husky have upped their game but we have a 540 and it is not as good as the Stihl 201s (which aren’t as good as the 200s, but that’s life unfortunately)!
  8. My mistake - I thought the Maryport machines were in Scotland not England. And the other pair are in Wales (not the fish in the sea with the biggest dick - the hilly wet place whose team couldn’t even beat the All Blacks)...
  9. This is Lord’s setup - they’ve apparently got the only ones of these in England. Seriously productive - if you have access for artics then this is who you need to speak to imo.
  10. Forget Jenkinsons, go straight to Lord. Speak to Oliver, he’s a good guy. PM me if you can’t find a number.
  11. I didn’t realise you were medically trained!!
  12. 20lb usually contained in that guy’s drawers I think?
  13. I thought I’d seen a pic of you before!
  14. Seppo then - that’s considered morbidly obese in the rest of the world!
  15. Not related to the thread topic at all but two mates have both got low mileage newish (less than 3 years old) Hiluxes and they have both had to have new transfer boxes under warranty. Neither are worked particularly hard - used more as cars than work trucks tbh.
  16. Are you a mick or a seppo then boyo?
  17. Fucked if I know, have never milled anything in my life! Seems easy from an outsider’s perspective though, but am sure there are reasons why expensive jigs sell.
  18. Rolling a log isn’t exactly difficult though. Not a production solution by any means, but would work on a small scale surely?
  19. I’d be up for it becoming a dictatorship tbh - Steve seems to be a decent fella (for a computer nerd), if he doesn’t like the cut of someone’s jib I reckon he should just bin them for a week/month/year (incrementally). Good luck Eggs!...
  20. Can’t you just slide a piece of waney under the log every other cut? Or is that a ridiculous proposition (I’m not a miller and know nothing of the intricacies, so please set me straight!)?
  21. A guy that worked for me swore by his Cut and Climb - I’m sure it was amazing, I have no reason to doubt him as he was very experienced and he’d worked all over the country doing both arb and forestry. I have no experience of an off the shelf version, but have the waterproof trousers which are very good. On his recommendation I ordered a few for my lads, but had them made in a bright orange fabric which should (as far as I was concerned) have performed the same as the ‘off the shelf’ equivalent as the fabric was apparently the same. They unfortunately weren’t well received, described as like wearing a ‘crisp packet’. I’m not sure how waterproof they were, but the guys didn’t end up dry.
  22. This is my favourite post on Arbtalk, sounds like the perfect day to me!
  23. VW Transvestite. This is my go-to pic every time someone else I know decided they are a surfer and starts talking about getting one... Image: First Draft on Twitter: "UK: This image shared widely of Jimmy ... IMAGES.APP.GOO.GL Found on Google from twitter.com
  24. Carry an IBC/couple of IBCs in and fill with water.
  25. There’s a vehicle dismantler near here that has a lot of Eastern European’s working in it. They chop up insurance write-off cars that aren’t allowed back onto the road in the uk and subsequently have to be destroyed, but cut them in such a way that they can ‘cut and shut’ them using a good front end with a non-damaged rear. They are all loaded into artics and I can only assume head east for a rebuild.... I also bought a van off a firm who also import/export cars all over the world - transporting super-cars in and out of the Middle East etc. In the corner of their yard were some terribly smashed up vehicles including a pretty new Hilux that looked as though it had rolled down a mountain - no part of it was straight. Apparently these were sent to India by one of their customers, where they would be fixed and re-sold.
