A decent experienced climber would move around the majority of trees a lot less than a newby.

BS5837 (implemented for the sole purpose of protecting trees) is directly responsible for this type of felling - developers/builders/supermarkets etc can’t take the risk of leaving unprotected trees on site pre-application as they can be weaponised against them and become significant constraints. There are flaws with the current system, and overall I’d bet that BS5837 leads to more tree removal than it protects…

I never use the support legs when loading - too much faff. However, it is worth pointing out that it is possible to lift the rear wheels of the tow vehicle off the ground, which can lead to everything rolling away if on a hill as they tend to be the only braked part of the combination… -
The guides were in with the fixings (I just didn’t look hard enough!) - once fitted it was easy to knock the posts through. I’m really impressed with the ‘feel’ of the quality of components and attention to detail of this kit - every last nut, bolt and washer is there, and the assembly instructions are extremely clear.

I had one of these back in the day - ISTR the box mounted directly onto the outside of the flywheel rotor chamber behind the engine. The pickup sensor aimed at a toothed wheel mounted on the driven rotor shaft, behind the pulley.

I’ve seen my arse with it tonight - everything out of the box is as-per the instructions until now. A steel section has to pass through the mill head and will ultimately be what carries the entire mill, controlling the thickness of cut, so obviously needs to be a tight interference fit. The instructions are very clear on there being a disposable plastic guide that is to be removed following assembly. There is no guide in either upright, and the fit required is incredibly tight (which is good). I’m on my own, in my happy beer-shed-Saturday-night-do-shit place. There is not a hope I can get this steel through the nylon bushes without any cutting (which I’m definitely not going to do) - those guides are definitely a necessity and are missing. Bastardo!!! (I’ve twatted the shit out of it with a 3x2 - it will go in with someone else lining it all up but that’s not the point!).

Off road I always went straight for low as high range first is pretty highly geared on them - occasionally it would be a bit of a bitch to get back into high 2wd (which I’d forgotten about but was sometimes a pain in honesty). I genuinely loved mine - it towed my Landy out a couple of times too….

I’m just nailing a WM 130 MAX together right now (I’ve only had it since March…). Bang for buck they take some beating, and I have to say thus far I’m impressed with the quality. I looked at buying a couple of 2nd hand Woodland Mills before ordering this so I know how well they sell if I decide it’s not for me and want to move it on! This is only for a bit of hobby use - I know nothing about milling and felt that I could justify the cost/potential depreciation of this as a learning tool.

I loved my last Navara (the current new shape) - did 60k in it over 3 years, a lot of heavy towing (4 tonnes plus…), a lot of off road, zero issues. It was fast too. I would definitely have had another but couldn’t get any sense out of the dealer when trying to spend my money - I ended up ordering a new Hilux in March but delivery keeps being pushed back and they now reckon I’ll be lucky to see it in January! I honestly preferred the Navara to drive than the Hilux I demo’d - nicer truck all around IMO. I’ve had 4x Navaras from new as my own truck since 2006 and have worked them all pretty hard and never had any issues tbh.

Looks like there’s possibly another similarly included union higher up that is in pole position to fail next, particularly now this branch has gone that was providing it with some degree of shelter. It needs looking at ‘in the flesh’ by someone who knows what they are talking about.

There are some crackheads about who think old shagnasty Landys are worth more than gold - the overpriced ones tend to stay for sale though (asking £40k and getting £40k are two different things). I’ve just seen this which is probably priced correctly - it’s an optimistic price for a late, tidy, well sought after model. Undoubtedly other misguided sellers would expect it to make another £10k plus though….

Use Thomas Higgins - set up an account (quick/easy/peanuts) and let them send the proper solicitors letters. It normally flushes the money out before court, and they also automatically calculate the additional interest you are likely to be awarded by the courts and chase that at the same time as the original debt.

I’m a bugger for running the electric saws out of oil tbh. I’ll often grab one off the shelf, clip a battery on and use it for one or two cuts, and then stick it back unloved and unchecked. It’s not like a proper saw where oil gets filled when it’s fuelled up! -
Definitely ask your insurer to provide you with the ombudsman’s details - it can help to ‘lubricate the passage’. They really don’t like going down that road - do not be afraid of pressing the point. Shitbags the lot of them.

I can’t see that dying if reduced to 4m - there appears to be a lot of growth on the owner’s side. Send lads in unbranded vans and other company shirts, cut to spec and deny to anyone that you were ever there when questioned about the state of the finished job…
