What makes you say insurance for 4x4's is cheap?? I've looked at getting insured on 110 and 130 Land Rovers and also Hilux's! Insurance was stupidly expensive and in some cases more than the actual vehicle! -
Do you know if any contractors in the UK (particulary South East England) use the machine?

For an Arb company working in a Town/City location an ambulance with highly medically trained staff is going to reach you in minutes. In a forest situation this is slightly different and the staff should be able to deal with injuries themselves. I understand that we are at high risk and don't want to get into an argument but think that expecting every Arb company (from a small 2man team to large 100+ staff companies) is unrealistic due to the added cost to the company. -

I think for the average Arb company they are a bit over the top! For a forestry gang working in the middle of a forest with poor access then it could save someones life but the staff would need the training it how to use it. -
Ive got a Husky but prefer the works Stihl! A lot easier to use and you can see how much fuel you have left/whether you have mixed it.

Sorry if I came accross as argumentative Charlieh - I'm just trying to find out the facts/industry best practice as my emoployer couldn't give two monkeys. Good point Hama. - I may been doing a lot more reed bed / tree work around watercourses so will bear that in mind when doing the RA.

Whats the advantage of wearing a self inflating life jacket? I just wore my bounancy aid that I use for watersports as I find them more comfortable.

I know this has come up before but just wanted peoples opinions on whats the best/safest way. The reason I ask is that I was clearing a load of willow regen. from around the outside of a lake today. The lake used to be a gravel pit so very deep and shelves quickly. Most of the material was 1-2m from the bank which was fine but I couldn't reach the stuff further out. Do you wear life jackets / bounancy aids? Would it of been best to have a safety line? Is chainsawing from a boat "safe" ? Cheers in advance guys Parker
