Generally I thought it was normal to try and keep the rope in a bag attached to your self when using such lengths of rope, but if that is not possible for some reason then I don't know the answer and am therefore not much help at all!!
  2. Add some ladder racks and its a bit of everything!!
  3. Seriously though, aren't (or, shouldn't) chippers (be) considered as recycling machines? That is what they are sold as, and marketed as? They are not sold as waste compacting machines, they are sold as recyclers or converters. I have a list of customers for woodchip (they get it free when I'm passing, or for a small fee if its on demand) so its definatly not waste. A load of brash, now that would be different, but its woodchip mostly! We used to have a bag or two of rakings and rubbish on the truck most days but we nearly always leave that with the customer, making us of compost heeps, bonfired or council green bags. I do have a WCL but I have never figured out why!!
  4. Thats sort of genius, but, correct me if I'm wrong, that looks like it was a van and has been cut up to make it look like that?? Not that there is anything wrong with cutting up vans, like I say its almost genuis!! Would be a handy run around/extra vehicle..
  5. Surely if it been chipped then the "waste" has already been recycled. Isn't there grants for recycling? They should be paying us!! Fines for not recording where your newly aquired product has come from is crazy!!
  6. I suppose I pay for business cards, so maybe .01%
  7. Zero %, and I begrudge that amount!!
  8. I've seen it done with railway sleepers slotted into RSJ's. Don't know if thats cheaper of not.
  9. Hi Dan, I'm based in Cheltenham, might have a bit of work for you that would add to your experience, nothing full time available at the moment though.
  10. With regard to a unique selling point, mine (other than my charm) is turning up on time!
  11. Your 20K "take home" might be a while off yet then!
  12. No, you can't do it yourself.
  13. "Very Well"!!! Yeah I know lots of healthy living here in Chelters, thanks!!
  14. Depends more on how they deal with customers and the public, I've seen good arborists fail because they cannot deal with poeple. Trees are the easy bit, but negotiatign to get paid every day is difficult!!!!!!!
  15. Hi Paul. Good to see you at the APF. Silky zubat, which ever you can afford but probably the small one is just over budget. Silky, Gomtoro maybe cheaper. As long as its Silky you can't go wrong. Other brands are available but they are not the real thing IMO.
  16. Is that what they did when they gave you a job?? Ha ha!!
  17. Cos they are Specific to individual trees whereas conservation area is a blanket covering...... Maybe once permision is granted there is no difference but the original question was about conservation areas.
  18. Usually for conservsation area work it stipulates that the work is to be carried out to BS whatever it is, doesn't matter who does it. TPO's are different and not relevant to the original question.
  19. January off then!! Better get booking a ski holiday, fortnight at least. I can't stand the snow in this country but being away in it is fine.
  20. Are these the same trees that you need a climber to come in to take them down?
  21. I've just un registered for VAT. The rule of thumb above is a good one, I don't know where the 60% comes from but its about right. I used to get more than 60% of my work from vat registered companies and organizations and the 40% of domestic work filled in the rest and I didn't mind about the domestic jobs that I didn't get. Durign the recesion the comapnies and organizations all spent far less money, some virtually nothing, so I now had not enough work and was not getting enough domestic work to make up the short fall. Anyway since un registering I am now getting every domestic job I look at (100% success rate since August!!) and to cap it all off the commercial side is picking up again so I will probably have to re register next year some time! What I would say is that I am far happier not charging VAT and not reclaimign any vat. Since I don't buy any products, its only fuel and bits and pieces that have vat on which I now can't reclaim. I have bought all the expensive stuff while I was vat registered anyway. My main cost is wages and storage and theres no vat on that. So I wouldn't dream of volunteering to stay vat registered if I didn't have too, life is far better without it, unless you are buying and selling products that come with vat on them.
  22. If you have the combi already then its a great addition. I have one and for hedge trimming jobs its saves having to take the back pack one. They are surprisingly powerful when used with the 4mix engine unit, not sure about other models.
  23. Ah, yes, I remember know. You know the old saying "If it ain't broke" "It soon will be!! "
  24. Why are you "required" to keep a service record? Is it Puwer regs or soemthing? I keep a record in my head of what has happened to what and what spare parts I have, it leaves little space for much else in there but it works for me!!
  25. Not true on mine. Thats an urban myth, some say if your warning light is on the left then the filler is on the left, thats not true in mine either.
