  1. cough....cough....ahem!!!!!!
  2. I get through loads of in line filters, they are about £1.50 each so no worries, keep a batch of them you at all times!
  3. Lightning etc etc. hes probably safer from trees on "middlewood" than ever before, cos the dead one has already fallen on him. Take a deep breath and get back on.
  4. they wont see the dates of your invoices unless they are already sniffing round your books.
  5. Do you think? You get called to "the scene" and then start specuating on what could have caused the incident? Best to just do what you are there for and shut up IMO!
  6. I think its best that "tree surgeons" keep their mouths shut and cut the trees as requested!!
  7. Depends on your quote, if its XXX plus vat then you add the vat rate at the time of invoicing, or if its XYZ inc vat then its up to you to pay the extra amount. But yes, invoice everything before 3 jan to keep the customers happy!
  8. They werent lazy, they just hadnt stolen a larger saw yet.
  9. There you go, you found it, now send the CV as requested, no point posting a reply on here!!
  10. Midland forestry were just looking for someone......
  11. He's right, if its loler tested for liftign and lowering then it can't be used for anything else, and if it was it would fail its loler test. Like, a climbing rope is tested and deemed safe for climbing, then you use it to pull a truck out of the mud with a tractor, this is not what it is designed for and would render it no unusable for climbing because you don't know of the forces it was subjected to. He's right, but basically he just doesn't want you to use his shackle!! There is nothign wrong with down grading kit, so his shackle could become a winch shackle and an old climbong rope can become a "pulling truck out of mud" rope, as long as neither then goes back into normal service.
  12. You could well charge a fee if you have to cancel another job that you were booked in for that day. How much depends on the job, sometime I would love an excuse to not do council work so any call outs would be free, but if you were booked in for a specific job with a good customer with loads of potential further work, no amount of fees would make it worthwhile canceling.
  13. So which one of those would you charge the fees to? I know my answer but I think it mightbe different to yours?
  14. A half hitch (maybe 2) at the bottom is plenty!
  15. I got called out today, was just finishing a morning job and planning on going home as I have man flu, but got a call and went there for the afternoon. They will get charged what I would have charged for that afternoon, so no "call out" fee as such, just what I need to make up the day. Out of hours is a different matter though.
  16. I think they are really good!!
  17. Ive done it a few times. Last was on a poplar growing out of a river bank. Trees was 50foot or so but only 10inches at the base so very bendy and wobbly and slightly over the river. Definatly didnt want to rig off it but also didnt want to lose stuff in the river. Set the sppedline in the top and half hitched it at the base about 3 feet up the stem. did most of the lower branches without it but the top branches were clipped to the line and they landed perfectly with the butt up the bank to be retrieved, then did the same with the trunk pieces, none of which even touched the water. Have done it next to traffic aswell, just to gaurantee that branches dont flip over but thought it more hassle than it was worth.
  18. Switch your mobile phone off while at work!

    Day Rate

This thread is two years old! I wonder if opinions have changed in that time!! It dpeends how many days you are offered! If I charged £750 a day for the three man crew as described, I would probably price a years work at a slightly lower rate. Folk as me what I charge an hour, I say it depends how many hours you want, its a lot for first hour of the day but you have the last one free!
  21. Its fine though I'm not sure who would disallow it anyway. Its a bit ever done though!! The petzl crab to the micro pulley is unecessary, its not load bearing. In fact the easiest way of doing it is to use another prussik made of much smaller rope 4-5mm accessory cord will do, attache the prusik above the spliced eye and have it girth hitched or tied/clipped to the micro pulley, that way you can move it up and down the rope to get it as taught as you like. You don't need a hitchclimber, there are many many ways of getting a pulley to self tend, and this method has been around for while and is probably the easiest and best first step in trying new things.
  22. A what??? control desk!!
  23. Other than poverty, never done me any harm!
