  1. At our recent HMRC tribunal the subject of transporting timber back to the farm came up which was allowed on the basis of share farming. I mention as it might be useful for others.
  2. Been forwarding next to a canal and could not believe a boater tie up with his roof covered in freshly cut rings then gets his chainsaw out and starts cutting the 3 mtr lengths I am about to forward out. At least he had full PPE of woolly hat and jeans. Reported to site manager who had a word and he promptly untied his boat and moved to the opposite bank and carried on cutting someone elses pre cut lengths.
  3. Not worth the hassle even though I am a farmer my MB Trac I use for forwarding is always run on white and jobs priced accordingly ie £15 + vat fuel charge in addition to daily rate.
  4. MB Trac 1000 6 cyl OM 352. My forward control MB Trac 1000 is starting to smoke so was going to pinch the good injectors out of seized MB Trac engine as I have a replacement engine ready to go into the seized MB Trac. Eventually the seized engine will be stripped and hopefully reconditioned to be kept as a spare.
  5. Thanks for that but this engine locked up thanks to a considerate unimog "dealer" forgetting to tighten up the sump plug after they put the engine back in leading to the tractor dropping its oil all over the road.
  6. I just stand my billets on end in an IBC container then when I want to saw them to length I just lift and rotate using the IBC as a log deck. If customer wants billets then just deliver the IBC container the same as I deliver logs.
  7. Was looking to do this on an 80 acre farm which has just come up for sale with three quarters of the land being suitable for forestry and one quarter for paddocks if given enough shelter. Checked on council map and two thirds of land is protected moorland which I did not have a problem with until I checked the planners interpretation which excludes forestry. It appears that is change of use even if it was short rotation coppice. Made me laugh as the land used to be the royal hunting forest until the trees where all felled in the 1800's.
  8. It was forestry commission woodland grant but a council run conservation group supplied the trees. (Very poor quality lost 40%. have used "free" Woodland trust trees to infill).
  9. Put a m instead of an n in the address
  10. Conafer are a right shower. They tested my pellet machine before shipping in the Italian factory but instead of cleaning out the augers before shipping they left it full of sawdust which got wet during shipping and set like concrete. My biggest mistake was paying before shipment but did not realise how corrupt Italian companies are.
  11. I looked at P system when I bought my machine but at the time there was no UK support so went with Comafer "supported by Scott Sargent". biggest commercial mistake I have ever made and would not touch either company with a barge pole. Also bought one of the chinese machines but there so badly made we only use it for testing new mixes of feed and binders.
  12. Anyone know if you need a special tool to extract the injectors on an MB Trac. The parts manual does not seem very clear.
  13. This might be a bit OTT Air Burners BurnBoss Trailer Mounted FireBox -Air Curtain Burner
  14. Only problem I see is if he cant sell the timber then he will expect you to take the wood off his hands and not pay you for the work. Ok if you can dispose of it at a reasonable price but it then becomes your hassel to sell. Current problem I have with a reluctant payer.
  15. Have seen a scrap rotor slurry wagon used for burning just lined with bricks to keep the metal cooler.
  16. Just a warning we normally stack full IBC.s 4 high but have had one of the weldmesh type IBC collapse causing a domino effect. Thankfully no one hurt but difficult to untangle.
  17. Have got about 2 acres of really thick self set ash which I want to coppice. I like the idea of a high coppice to protect from rabbits but want to mechanical harvest with an excavator and kesla shear. Initial thought is a 6 foot wide ride (excavator 4 foot wide) where coppice is at ground level then 6 foot wide either side with high coppice. Any thoughts.
  18. Neat and tidy every time even with the price double the scruffy bag.
  19. My bags look like the one on the left but are the size of the one on the right. We sell at £5.00 per bag.
  20. I was conned with this with my woodland grant scheme. Plant low density shelter belts and it will not affect your SPF acreage. Wrong for every hectare planted they have reduced my SPF acreage by the same amount which now means I have less than 5 hectares eligible SPF so will not be eligible for the new scheme. ie totally shafted.
  21. Interesting thread but I find it rather ironic some of the views expressed anybody would think the industry is whiter than white with no weekend or bank holiday working when the council offices are shut.
  22. Went to Guy Martins local pub and really respect the landlord as he allows Guy to have a place to drink without being pestered by every tom dick and harry.
  23. Still 10p/kwh for Solar thermal installations and no upper usage cap
  24. You could have my MF 550 for that price. Dont get to excited the cab is a shed and it needs new piston rings as it is blowing back. On the plus side it comes with a PUH and hydraulic pipes to run a splitter.
