  1. Have a sawdust burner in the polytunnel used for frost protection in the winter. Light at 11pm and normally goes out by 9am.
  2. Roller doors are very insecure if you know what your doing. Used to work for a door manufacturer and the military spec secure doors where all eurofold doors on rails top and bottom with multi locks on the stanchion.
  3. agg221 Wish our listed building officer was like that. Even refused to allow the wooden gutters to be painted in clear yacht varnish to preserve them but would not suggest what we could use. Ended up using a linseed oil based paint thanks again to English Heritage
  4. agg221 I think my listed buildings officer was called pratt. If it was left upto her I would be installing single pane glass into oak frames rather than 3G glass direct into stone mullions. Fortunately I had one original leaded window in stone mullion and with the assistance of English Heritage managed to get the 3G approved.
  5. Unfortunately yes thanks to our lovely neighbors were on first name terms with the enforcement officer.
  6. Conservation officer was over the moon when I said I was removing the ivy as it was doing serious damage to the fabric of the building.
  7. My Father died at age 50 due to lungs being full of Lignum Vitae sawdust since then I have been paranoid of any sort of fine dust including saw dust and hay dust. Dont have the problem of trees falling on me there normally already on the deck I just have to get them onto the forwarder and process.
  8. Nice to know I am stupid. Yes I do wear wellies but when wearing wellies instead of my chainsaw boots I modify my technique to only cutting at waist height. As for helmets I believe they give a false sense of security. I prefer to use ear muffs, engineers glasses and a proper rubber mask with filters. Maybe not politically upto H & S but works for me.
  9. I have always used the weldmesh as used on suspended walkways to produce a light strong trailer floor.
  10. Quite right Mat thats why I asked the question I think the days of just helping a fellow farmer has sadly gone but if a formal share farming arrangement solves the problem then that is what we will do.
  11. Better make sure all work is done as a share farmer then so we dont have any problems.
  12. But who owns the track and what access rights have been granted. I know our farm track is covered in the title deeds with repair being shared equally based on 3 quotes.
  13. Quite frankly as a farmer with woodland I would tell you in no uncertain manner what you could do. Yes in the middle of summer I will have my Meindls on but in this weather it will be wellies and no I dont have any certs but still have all my limbs after 40 years of tree felling and hedge laying. Would be interested in finding out what laws I would be breaking using my chainsaw to lay the neighbors hedge.
  14. You may be entitled to a free Mac if your daughter suffers from Dyslexia. Its surprising how many students do suffer but the computer package includes special type faces, screen colours, and dictation software. Mac all the way with me. 7 years now of hassle free computing. Gave up with PC's when the last one I bought had a virus even before I had all the programmes loaded
  15. Any idea how much he wants for it. Seen them on the bay but so much is dodgy nowadays I thought I would try other avenues first.
  16. Anybody have a fuel injector pump for a 200 Disco engine. I am thinking of putting my defender back on the road and the cannibals have been away with the pump.
  17. Try ebay,de for holder tractor tyres . I get the tyres for my holder through Rowlands tractors.
  18. Well a big thanks to Nick and everyone who helped get all the parts back from Germany the tractor is now back and in full working order just need to start doing some real work with it. I must admit I am very impressed with Holder tractors having in stock all the parts requested except one which we had to get manufactured by a specialist gear cutter. Not so impressed with the attitude of the UK Holder agent however we still managed to get the parts despite his antics.
  19. I will hold you to the little to no signs of prolonged Snow & Ice when we get snowed in. My memory is short but I still have the ear ache from being snowed in the week before christmas and having to go out on Christmas Eve in the MB Trac 5 miles with the wife for the Christmas supermarket shop then clawing our way back up the hill to the farm.
  20. If you do go down the Lenz system check the RHI implications as it may not be eligible.
  21. upper limitMy Heizo is supposed to run at 750 so on my MB Trac I use the 1000 ratio and set the tractor rpm to achieve 750 on the Heizo clock. Once the Heizo clock has been set to 750 I then increase MB Trac engine speed by 100 rpm and start chipping. Was a hand written note in my Heizo instruction manual and it works for me.
  22. Dont normally sell IBC's although I did have over 100 in storage that I needed to move quickly so offered on here at 15 per IBC including joiners offcuts but ended up shifting the majority myself. Unfortunately people now realise there is a market for used IBC's so good cheap IBC's are proving difficult to find.
  23. Well I will admire anybody who can grow that volume of food in a 90 day growing season that really does take some doing even with 24 hour daylight. To me his wife was the real hero not only growing the food but preserving it as well.
