  1. Hi Neil, I think they would if felling, but a light prune seems to be ok. Al.
  2. I can leave it for a couple of weeks yet. Cheers Tony. Al
  3. I have a maple to reduce and was wondering if the sap is still rising? Anyone pruned one recently down south? Did a birch on Friday ANC that wasn't bleeding. Cheers...Al

    Ramps

Might be a bit late now, but I use two telescopic wheelchair ramps. Lasted 7 years now. Not quite as telescopic as they were though after a pine being felled on one.....
  5. As a ltd company you can pay yourself a lower wage by paye and take out the rest as dividends. It is a much more tax efficient way of paying yourself, and you will save loads on tax and national insurance. The company will have to pay corporation tax, but still cheaper than paye tax, and with a good accountant he should be able to keep the corporation tax as low as poss.
  6. Not worn Stilettos myself so can't compare....
  7. Samsung Galaxy S111 coming out soon, which will beat the iPhone 4s hands down. I have an iPhone 4 at the moment, but due an upgrade soon, so thinking of trying S111 for a year or so by which time the iPhone 5 might be out and teething problems sorted.
  8. I didn't bother with the rubber cap for the end of the cut away, as I tend to leave the krab on the end of the rope for slinging over branches - little rubber cap would have got lost in seconds! I was also expecting the the new lever to have a roller that rolled, not fixed. Can't really see much difference between using the new lever and the old one yet. Anyone else think this?
  9. It's one thing watching it, but admitting to it on an open forum....... .....brave man!
  10. 1st tree to come into my head was ailanthus as soon as I saw the photo. Markings on the trunk look very characteristic of ailanthus to me.
  11. Dig em or grind em..... Only one way to sort this out FIGHT FIGHT !!!!!!
  12. Hi Rob It's not possible to fell the trunk, can only go up and out by crane so quartering is not an option.
  13. Hi Jon That is what I need to work out. 120t crane is the biggest that can get into the job. I need to work out the timber weight next week. Coming down your part of the country tomorrow to see my Mum in Ash Priors. Cheers....Al
  14. I'll have to go back and take some accurate measurements as a 120t crane will lift 5.5t at 30m, so don't want to get it wrong! Al
  15. I have a humongous oak tree to fell coming up soon in Wokingham The trunk is around 6ft dia and 20ft high (virtually same dia all the way) It is a crane job, but the trunk is going to be too heavy to lift in one. What would be the minimum length for it to be of any use? Cheers...Al
  16. I would say you have a worn but if insulation on the wire to the stop switch. When you take the chain break off it flexes the saw on the av rubbers and shorts out the wire. Check your av rubbers aren't worn as well.
  17. Do you mean Reading or Godalming?? If Reading try Lister Wilder for the tracked chipper not sure about mewp. If Godalming try Harrison Plant Hire.
  18. Converted my 130 to auto over Christmas. Got a bit of tidying to do around the shifter and sort out a vibration on acceleration, but otherwise works well.
  19. Got a couple of inches here in Surrey. Trees also covered in snow, so won't be climbing today
  20. Sick pay only needs to be statutory sick pay, which you claim back. I was looking at employee costs the other day, and reckoned adding employers NI, holiday pay and bank holidays came to around £3000 to employ someone, compared to having someone self employed. You would need to pay a self employed person more than an employee though, but I would rather do that than give it to the government!
  21. Sounds like Ken Tongue from Bisley. I'll pm you his number, as don't want to put it on an open forum without his say. Al
  22. Found out today that my MS880 piston and cylinder is buggered. Mixture screws wound in to far. Where's best place to get replacement cylinder and piston from? Cheers...Al
