  1. It is a problem with many people according to the boffins who do the research. Emailing, blogs, forums etc are pretty much the same. We are somewhat detached from the people we are talking too or about so we don't really consider what we are writing and how it may be interpreted by someone else. Sometimes it's just a case of not being able to correctly put into words what you are thinking but sometimes it is just because you can have dig at someone without them cracking you on the nose. In times past you had to ring someone or talk face to face and would probably have to consider what you were going to say a lot harder but if it's just punching letters on a key board many things such as sarcasm etc come easy. I was always told if I was going to write a heated email to do a draft copy then sit on it overnight and read it again in the morning. I tried it once and it was quite scary as to the extent of the bitterness in the email. I'm still guilty of typing without thinking though.
  2. Try a nasal rinse such as neilmed. It helps wash all the crap out of the top of your nose without having to keep blowing it. It's quite surprising what you wash out of there.
  3. Judging by the number of xl and xxl shirts requested recently on another thread (you all know who you are ) I'd say there's a fair portion of bigger guys on this site. As long as you're not FAT fat you should be just fine. Technique counts for heaps and 18 stoner is right; just because you might not be a twinkle toes out on those scrawny little twigs when it comes to throwing around big chunks of wood or a 66 up the tree the advantage is yours. Cardio fitness is a must though rather than gym work. I found gym work slowed me up a fair bit because you concentrate too much on a lot of muscle groups you don't actually use. Personally I reckon something like yoga or pilates (which I do) is way more beneficial even if it's only for the stretching and prevention of injury.
  4. Hot water is better. The hotter the better in fact; keeps the shave close and less razor burn. Vodka is also good for storing you razors in as it kills germs and helps keep the blades sharp.
  5. Stranger and stranger. Out go the ozzies then everyone writes us off against the Proteas only for us to wipe the floor with them (no idea how that happened) then England get walloped (who cares, they got the ashes, another defeat for the ozzies) and now we are up against the slinger and the chucker. Note how it's all the countries from the area that have made the semis apart from the Bangers.
  6. Oh poor form Wait until I go for the full back sack and crack wax
  7. More execise but not late at night, cold room, no caffeine and don't eat too late in the evening. Oh, de-stress if you can and you have things gnawing at your brain.
  8. Dribble slobber. Do they still do a V8 grunter or are they all oil burners these days? Can remember seeing one down in a speccialist builder near Portsmouth complete with V8, lift kit and all the toys.
  9. [Am I the only one that thinks it's a sign of something very wrong when they can afford a video camera and two quads, yet the girl is running around with nothing on her feet?! Nothing wrong with bare feet. Plenty of people do it in NZ, kids and adults alike and it's actually better for your body as a whole apparently.
  10. [The older generation had far more "class" than the next Agreed. We still get the odd coffee etc but it gets rarer. Did a job for a guy the other day. Persisting it down with rain and I was soaked within 10 minutes. The guy has the cheek to start telling me how to do my job and then starts adding extras. About 1 Oclock (6 hours in) he starts walking around with a cup of tea. Here we go I thought, finally I get a cuppa. Nope, he's just come out to tell me the tree I've just finished reducing and clearing up he now wants removed. Talk about spitting taks. I always seem to get the best deal from the farmers. Tea and home made cake along with a sit down lunch. And yes, I always offer the bottomless cuppa to anyone working at my place. Do unto others and all that.
  11. Depends where they are made. They always seem smaller if they're made in Asia somewhere.
  12. Monday - truck off the road after a solenoid shorted and set fire to the wiring, pump, battery, hoses and hydraulic oil tank. Tuesday - Truck still off the road and now I find I've bashed the sump on something so I need that smacked back in to shape. Wednesday - truck back on the road and can finally do some work. Insurance covers the truck fire so even better. Couple of easy jobs to get back in to it after a week and half off. Thursday - Smash out two jobs in extra quick time plus get handed a job by the council three times the original size. Hooray, extra money for once. Early day to boot. Friday - Chipper now throws a tanty so spend most of the day in the workshop pulling the carb to bits only to find a PCV valve had been left out during a head gasket change. Bonus for the weekend; after 13 years I finally find a butcher that can make faggots and all to be washed down with some proper english scrumpy. New camera time tomorrow so all in all a good end to a disastrous start to the week. I managed to wake up every morning so life can't be all bad eh? There's always someone worse off.
  13. Where's that one Drew? I get to see so many I've lost track of them all now.
  14. How big was that Beech? It looks a beast.
  15. With your work experience you're probably unlikely to get too much in the way of job offers mainly because I would say the skills you have would not be required in Oz or NZ. Not much call for dry stone walling and hedge laying etc here in NZ that's for sure. I'd say your best bet is to come over on a temporary work visa and then see what you can get once you are over here/there. You don't need much for a temp work visa, only some funds, a return ticket and a clean record. Once you're here/there or wherever you can then start hunting down jobs as a groundy. Again, probably better off trying with some of the bigger outfits who have a higher staff turnover. Failing that, have a nosey on the skilled jobs lsit on the immigration website of the country you want to go to.
  16. Get some outfit to build you one. You tell them what you need it for and what you use it most for and they can build one around your needs. None of that advertising bumf that comes with a shop bought and no paying for stuff you'll never need. I ditched all the stuff like games cards etc and just got more memory and a better sound system. Plus, if anything goes wrong I get a more personal service and the guys know what they are dealing with.
  17. Termites. Leave it long enough and they'll chew a honeycomb through the concrete Saw it in Oz once. Termites had chewed up the concrete around the base of the tree and taken it 30 feet up to a large hollow limb and filled the hollow with concrete through about 6 feet of its length. Never seen anything like it before or since.
  18. Two things for what it's worth. The guy or girl who has started the thread regarding the recruitment might have absolutely no idea about issues with accounts and has just been asked to put the word out so all this might be some what of a rapid learning curve for them. I just wonder if the gripes should be kept to a seperate thread even though I have more than every sympathy for those who don't get their accounts paid on time or full stop. Second; not all of us are really computer literate and only just get by so some of those struggling with getting CV's through might just need pointing in the right direction rather than having sarcasm directed at them. Isn't this what someone was on about recently? Treating people with a modicum of respect?
  19. I think I've narrowed it down to either the Canon EOS 1000D or the Nikon 3000 (I think) as they seem to be the best DSLR's for beginners. Going to go have a proper nosey this weekend and see what I think but if anyone has any further advise it's all welcome.
  20. I'll have you know that I've had the full massgae treatment on the feet AND a pedicure. It's actually a nice way to relax after a long week on your feet Straight off to the hot pools after to finish off the rest of the aching bones. Failing that, a bit of acupuncture to sort out the squemish.
  21. Nice idea. Fresh fish straight out of the harbour and just chill for half an hour.
  22. Is this just for us arborists? The reason I ask is because I took conservation at college and something like this would have been an excellent addition to the learning. I'd imagine there would be a heap of people into the conservation side of things that would be interested in being educated in the ways of all things shroomy. Anyway, happy to send something from this side of the world if it's of any help seeing as I did my training in the UK.
  23. I use one of thos Gillette power thingymajiggies but would love to be able to use a cut throat. I had a proper cut throat shave once and it was fantastic. Not just the closeness of the shave but the whole experience. It isn't just A shave. Unfortunately there's not too many places in NZ you can still get a proper cut throat shave
  24. Congrats guys. Must have been a tough decision as there's been some primo photos on here, as usual.
  25. One of my ex bosses said as a last resort just to fell the tree the injured climber was in. Not sure how that one would go down with the locals.
