  1. If you're thinking of applying pick up the phone and don't rely on email. Much easier to ignore an email. I heard from a mate at Transfield today; there's several other outfits looking for workers other than those on Trademe. Apparently work is booming.
  2. Plenty round this way with the full on Moko. Got a couple myself so if I can get the wife to take pics I'll stick em up. For some ideas try Mokoink. I had some of mine done there along with some of the All Blacks and Kiwis. I know of a few others too. Some of them go to the Tattoo festivals overseas so you may well be able to get one done there. If you get a proper job they tell a story (whakapapa) so if you have anything that you want to put in the artist should be able to do it for you.
  3. Smarty pants:001_tt2: The place is called Zonda industries. Thinking of getting a bumbly bee hive for next year
  4. I do some work for a client here who works for a company that's into ecologically sound pest control (sure there's a proper name for it but I've got brain freeze). They sell ladybirds, parasitic wasps etc. They also sell bumble bee set ups, honey bees etc that they courier out to you and you can set them up in the garden. I love the idea of releasing heaps of ladybug larvae onto my roses to deal with the aphids and I also fancy having some bumbling bumble bees in the garden. We already have some repeat visiting bees that nest in a cavity in the wall and then spend their days roaming the lemon tree and flowers before buzzing their way back to the nest. I love to watch them bumble about. I'm also keen on most other bugs and beasties except for the german wasps and cockroaches (not the native ones), the wasps especially as they attack all the native species.
  5. Haha agreed Adam. Sure ain't pretty when you're trying to climb or chip the ugly things.
  6. Noticed all the spring bloom pictures coming out so thought I'd throw a few autumnal colours into the mix.
  7. Just a word of warning with the degreaser; careful where you spray it. I went a bit over the top with the stuff and got it all around the carb. I had the choke on but a few days later the thing seized. Not sure if degreaser ended up in the pot but I'm thinking it wouldn't have helped matters. I still use the stuff though but apply with a paintbrush rather than a spray. Works wonders on the cooling fins as well.
  8. 6 after shocks since 4 this arvo. Looks like you fellas just had another shaker of 4.1. Must be getting a bit tiring by now. I hear Ruapehu is heating up too. Should get some doozy photos if it blows.
  9. Outstanding job.
  10. Just heard on the news but strangely enough nothing through on GNS yet. They seem to have been coming all day but just little ones. Just get a few more bottles down ya neck and that'll sort it for the evening. I'll have a bottle of Perri for you. Queenstown starting to look a nice option bro?
  11. I have to say that I actually haven't heard of the term "crown clean". I left the UK in 98, hadn't heard it up until then and neither have I heard it in NZ. Never heard the councils refer to a crown clean either so it's all new to me I'm afraid.
  12. Here's how it's done lads. Pinched this off my mates facebook page. He works for a local utility outfit and this comes supplied on the truck.
  13. Hmmmm not sure whether to take some of the sexist comments on this thread with a grain of salt or not. For the record I've worked with, or had work for me, several female arborists (including Chrissie Spence, look her up) and all of them have put several of the guys to shame. Fine, some of them are built like a tank but several others are the opposite end of the scale and I wouldn't have a bad word said about any of them. Some left the industry because of repeat and overly sexist comments which is a great shame. Others have stuck a couple of fingers up to the idiots who think it's a man's game and just taken the head down arse up attitude until their point was proven. I also worked with a guy who was nicknamed Yeti too
  14. I switched over to the hitchclimber about a year ago after climbing on a Blakes before that. It's great for quickly advancing into the tree but you have to get used to the fact that the hitch slips until you have your full weight in it (at least that's what I've found) and it can be quite slow on the descending side of things. The knot doesn't slide as easily as some of the otehrs. Honey Brothers have a similar vid showing how to set it up but I think it's the same as the youtube one.
  15. Check out the work to residency option with immigration. You'll still need a job offer but not the quals or experience. Alternatively you can get a 3 year work visa and then work on residncy when you get there.
  16. would have thought with that avatar Mike you were an advanced arbortrist level 4.
  17. Yeah bro, wondered how many fish I could hook with that one. Most useless peace of paper ever devised I reckon. I know one guy who got issued his assessors cert, including crane and heli work, and he can't even climb a tree. And I mean quite literally. Comes in handy on work applications though; sounds all good and mighty. In reality it's a load of old testicles.
  18. I didn't give him an orginal price. I did the job for him last year with which he was happy. This year he rang someone else and didn't give me the opportunity to price the job. The other company dicked him around so he came crying back to me and now wants the job done ahead of everyone else that I've got booked in. He hasn't discussed the other companies price with me. My point is that I was second pick this time around yet he is still expecting the same favours as I would give to a loyal customer.
  19. I think this is just a wind up by somebody using a pseudonym.
  20. Is that like the numpty tax (it's actually known as the FW tax but can't say that on here) that I apply to jobs that the home owner has tried to do themselves, cocked it up and left the mess for me to sort out
  21. Saw a guy stick a couple of livers in a food processor once then proceed to drink the liquid after adding protein powder. Nearly barfed on the spot when I watched it.
  22. Doubled the price from last year and if he asks I'll tell him why. If I don't get the job it's no major as it's not that much of a job. Obviously not going to be recommended to his friends if he's willing to jump from company to company so I'm not going to worry about it. Usually, if I have someone do a good job for me I'll use them again or at least let them know I'm getting other comparison quotes. Even if a comparison quote is cheaper I won't always go for that quote but rather the outfit that had done a good job the time before.
  23. Most definately is fraud and the insurance company/companies will not only can his policies but probably press charges. There was a guy on the news here whose house burnt down. Fully covered on insurance but claimed a few little extras that he didn't actually have. Insurance company found out and refused to pay any of the insurance, house or contents, until a tv show got involved. I'd most definately be grassing him up if I could. Stuff like this helps put up your premiums.
  24. Well THAT was confusing. Several different conversations going on at once and trying to follow one or all had me in a spin. Still, I'll try again.
  25. I have to say as far as the back issue is concerned I've had no issues with the skylotec. It's got a heap of back support. Also, with the postioning of the D rings etc it seems to put less pressure on the back when hanging in the harness. I wouldn't go for a seat again though. They seem to squeeze up under pressure and start to crush the hips. Heaps more comfy in the leg loops, which also have a fair bit of padding on the skylotec. They just need a bit of adjusting to get them right.
