  1. I do not own either, but I am considering a greenmech. Timberwolf I am afraid have too many issues with poor quality bearings. Browns have gone over to greenmech for this reason amongst others

  4. I have refused to do jobs on the basis that the lawn is a minefield of ticking timebombs waiting to catch me out. Its no fun dragging branches through that lot. Mate puts flowerpots on the offending piles so he can dodge them

  9. We have been discussing this at length on the paving expert forum. It appears the rules on tachographs up to 7.5 tonnes has been relaxed for the horticultural and agricultural industry, and I believe forestry. Log sales are a grey area, but I think you can easliy use one of these industries to get round it. where it cannot be used is setup of truck and chipper doing domestic tree work. A mog and chipper is not exempt and requires a tacho, as someone I know found out!
  10. Spoke to a guy today about this. He says try redex fuel treatment. Its VERY effective at cleaning coke from your engine and injectors. Mights save you a few a quid. I should add that he is a garage owner for 30 or ,more years

You are NOT usually operating for Hire or Reward when you carry goods you own or goods you have used or will use in the course of your business.* In each of the following examples a Van below 3,500 kgs (3.5t) and a small trailer is used to transport a mini-digger from a depot to a work site. The gross plated weights of vehicle and trailer when combined exceed 3.5t.* These examples cover most circumstances; however there are more than these simple examples so if you are in any doubt please contact VOSA Enquiries. *- The digger is owned by you, the user of the vehicle. You use the digger on the site. This transport is done on your own account and you do not need an operator’s licence. *- The digger is rented by you, the user of the vehicle. If you are rewarded for this work in any way (payment or in kind) this is hire or reward, you have not under taken this work on your own account, you have made a pure freight journey – and you will therefore need an operator’s licence. -------------- have ordered a new crew cab cabstar and this one I am NOT having a tacho fitted. If your train weight is over 3500kg, and is your own tools and equipment, not for hire or reward, then the tacho is not needed. I had one fitted in my current truck. Its supposed to be calibrated every 6 months, but I have yet to find someone who can do it, or even show me how to use it properly. I make sure that if I am hiring a crusher to someone, I put it on the back of the truck ratner than tow it, so that gets me oit of the "hire or reward" situation. examples below taken from the gov website
  13. Would not have a transit if someone paid me. Cabstar all the way. Just ordered a new one, had 6 so far. Far better truck to drive all round. Biggest payload, which is why the truck mounted cherry pickers all use them
  14. Just buy a ripper tooth and dig them out. You can also buy one with a sharpened edge to tear through bigger roots

  16. Personally, I cannot speak highly enough of kubota. I have an stv 32. Had a kubota for 10 years from new before that. Faultless. The one I have now I have had for 5 years. Again faultless. I had a loader on the old one. Very powerful, but would not life much weight.
  17. Get an avant. The 500 series lifts half a tonne and there are so many attachments for it, its unreal

  19. They are around 1200 new, so thats a good price. At the end of the shredding chamber, there is a screen that everything passes through. It is held in with a pin and rclip. Remove the rclip, slide out the bar and the screen should hinge. There may be a lever to release it too, there is on mine. No tools needed
  20. Oh, and there is no hour counter, but open her up and check the blade condition. See how blunt the blade cutting edge is, and also see if the blades have been turned. If it still has a razor sharp edge on the non turned side, its sounds genuine
  21. Hi I have the big daddy, the super pro 2000. Eliet are superb pieces of kit. I recently got a very rude bargain. 2004 machine that did 10hoursand sat in a barn ever since, with the custom road going trailer. Paid 4k for it and sold my old machine for 2.5k the engine will not deteriorate, but check stale fuel has not ruined the carb. the great thing about these machines is the knife setup. You can easily sharpen them in situ with an angle grinder if needed, but changjng them can be a long job. they also dont mind the odd foreign object. I once had a blade snap and go round the shredding chamber, smashing the edges off the other blades, and it still continued to shred and got the job finished before a workshop repair was in order. what is the asking price of the machine?

  23. Hire a chipper and you would get most of it into a skip. Then offer the logs on freecycle
  24. great. I would make one for the tractor. Ideally one that can do 2-3' logs. How do i source the ram and components may i ask and what sort of cost did you have to stump up? how did you make the splitting wedge?
  25. what kind of tonnage is this? i admire anyone with the skill to do this sort of thing. Would a gasless mig be man enough to weld something like this?
