1. its a lead flashing to the right angle of the roof, and yes i believe you use silicone I think if i go ahead and do this, i should document and photograph it all for you guys stage by stage!
2. Its impossible due to the crap layout of the house. The only wall is to the garage, where there are numerous pipes and the boiler. I was going to extend the house and put one in then, but the cost of extending was eye watering. if I put one in the conservatory and ever move, I can easily take it with me. the conservatory has a brick wallmandntiled floor so the hearth is done!!
3. Thanks for this Its a local company that my friend used and they worked out what he needed to buy, and was very happy. They seemed really helpful. Yes 11kw is a lot, its a big conservatory, and i think it will heat a lot of the house too. Sounds like a call to the council is in order monday!
4. will be easy to install a couple of vents in the dwarf wall the conservatory sits on. we get condensation now from drying clothes out there
5. Its kind of a "heat the conservatory and leave the door open to see how much the house will heat" situation. I was planning on leaving a small window open.
6. Thanks for the reply I am in hemel hempstead, herts. the stove company have quoted for twin wall, roof braces, wall brackets etc. and i am tempted to get it black powder coated for an extra £200 The stove is £1100, and the flue system another £1500. I also need to scaffold the conservatory. The other reason i want to do this is i have free fuel. Although i sell logs, i can burn all the stuff no one wants (like well seasoned christmas tree for example) plus this stove will take 500mm logs, so i can easily keep the bits the splitter wont do, or the mish mash of different sizes for myself! I was wondering if there was any rule about how far the flue has to be away from an upstairs window:confused1:
7. Thats what I thought
8. Luckily a friend is experienced in fitting them and he is giving me a hand
9. I have decided to install a log burner in my conservatory since I have no where else to put it, and reading online it appears that its a good idea as they are hard to heat anyway. it involves punching through a polycarbonate roof, up the back of the house, and then round the soffitts to leave it 1.5m above gutter. asked a local bloke to quote, but I got fed up with chasing him up, another guy couldnt even look untilmthe end of feb, and the third hasnt rung back. so how hard can it be to install? I went to the stove supplier, he has listed and priced everything I need including the 12kw stove. the only query he said was it needs to be signed off by the council. so what do I need to watch out for? and I should add, that I am not planning on selling the house, so if it doesent bet signed off, does it matter?
10. As I said before, it all gets sold with the logs, never had a complaint yet.
11. I have a similar one to that. i brought it fom arboreaters. Great piece of kit, but i use it for all the knarly bits the splitter wont do, plus old fence posts. Its about 10 years old, and has been faultless.
12. 6. "I only want apple" 7. "Dont give me any horse chestnut, it goes black. I once dragged a piece out of the canal and it made the fire go out"
13. Nothing in the same scale as some of you chaps, but this willow was dying in the summer, and the owner insisted that a severe prune would save it. I did not get the job, needless to say, it died. so i have the job of felling it and logging it up so he can split it. all done in half an hour with the 20 year old trusty 044!
14. oh yea
15. What do you you do with all the stuff., skip I suppose as its most likely full of rubbish
16. Its great in that it never rots, but be warned in the summer it flexes and bulges in the heat, so will need flexible mountings
17. my double cab with a three way tip and a 12' body will take 1 tonne legally though i have had two on it:blushing:
18. not sure where you are based, but you could have a word with my local avant chap, he can steer you in the right direction. I think the extra weight on the back will be ok, as you can buy additional weights in any case and i think it will make little difference to the front. Avant make a timber crane and trailer for it!! You will find that you will not need to close the forks all the way, so i really dont think its an issue. The internal spike are removed also as when you grab timber, they can dig in and the timber wont release properly
19. yes. post puller and soil screener!
20. I think I paid 2.5k plus vat, without the conveyor. I thought that was reasonable, but thats 2 years ago now
21. There is a sillage grab most people buy for moving branches and logs. I think some of the internal spikes get cut off first so it closes better.
22. apologies. Not sure how to post a video, but I have one for my avant. You will notice I have added my own conveyor, as I had a spare one from my shredder. Its a great piece of kit, and was reasonably priced.

have one for mine. Superb piece of kit.
