  1. Potato forks are called 'Sippets'.
  2. Can you get Mars Oil anymore? It was in a red and white can with a brush fixed into the lid. Absolutely stank, but was an excellent waterproofer. I use Nikwax on my boots these days.
  3. Glad you got it done alright. Conditions were awful on Monday. Like you guys, we sat it out in the van and started up the trees at 11 am. We got ours done too, but losing 2 1/2 hours on Monday morning meant we were topping out the last one in the dark on Tuesday night! The wind on Tuesday was 'entertaining' to say the least, I was bobbing about like a cork dismantling one tree whilst anchored in an adjacent one.
  4. I'd agree with you there, the older hedgecutters were the worst, far worse than saws. Lovin' the new 361 with the warm handles!
  5. But think of all that lovely firewood..... £100 / tree will pay some one to chip it up.... You can do tree surgery for nothing these days..... etc.. etc.. etc.. As all above say, walk away and let them get on with it.
  6. Good fun, but you'll regret it when your older and have cold fingers all the time like me.
  7. Well it looked a well organised job, whoever was doing it. I know the site, and its very tight access indeed for any machinery. I did a crown reduction on those trees about ten years ago with JPW, and we had a 65' Genie down there to do the outsides and I climbed the trees to clean out the insides and take the tops off. I too use Hall Bros when I need a crane. On the job I did with Pete McTree, the slinger / signaller was Cyril. I thought it might have been him, but you could only see the back of the guys head in your picture.
  8. Mad for it! Mad for it! Nice tidy bit of work there Pete.
  9. Somewhere a BT man will be getting a bollocking!
  10. Looks a bit rotten, so 16 tonnes.
  11. If its your customer, tell them the LDV holds more logs! You white van man !
  12. The sad fact is I get really cold fingers, which isnt good. I love my old 262xp, and so does eveyone else, but shes very long in the tooth. I have to think about HAVS, and being an employer, the choice is there for the staff.
  13. I bought a 361 with heated handles last week and love it! Nice saw, broke down a large ash crown and dismantled another from the mewp with it to run it in. £532 + vat, bearing in mind heated handles are 50 odd quid more. Used 357 xpg for sale now, leaks oil.
  14. No arms and no door, bet its had a flail on it in a past life. You should be able to get the glass still, get a door made up from box section. Or just make up a door and put some glass in to suit. Its for tree work, not the the show ring.
  15. Clogger! Showing your age there swb! Does anyone still make/sell cloggers? I used to use one and quite liked it.
  16. Thought it looked familiar, but I've never seen it from that side from the top. I have shot there a few times in the past., and very good birds they were too!
  17. Is the top picture, far side of dale, Greenwick?
  18. A friend of mine had to get change of use for part of his farm as a firewood business.
  19. Nice work Dean. technical, ballsy or just luck ?, Well assessed, planned and executed, I'd say. The job went how you planned it and expected it to go, therefore no luck involved. I wouldnt have left my saw in the back cut though!
  20. Looks a nice job Brett. Where is it on the Wolds? I'd like to be stood at the bottom shooting pheasants!
  21. I used to have an Edwards trailer, it was very well made and towed well. Run an Ifor now, only because I got a good deal on the trade in.
  22. Tidy job there boys.
  23. Only 75, but thats all you need when you can sharpen properly.
  24. Presumably the certificated operatives fault. He's the one who is there to feed the machine.
  25. Dean, it was as they came off the elevator of a processor into a one tonne potato box. The box measured 1 cubic metre internally. It was a flat load, level with the top of the box.
