  1. good thread adam, i think the main thing with any of these different techniques is to just give them a go ( safely of course!) if it works for you and improves your climbing by making it easier or faster then thats great if not just use your old method. carl
  2. id say it took alot of time , effort and money on kevins part to get the rope wrench where it is now and i hope he gets a fair share of the retail price and has bought a carribean holiday home with the proceeds!! very pleased with my rope wrench btw. my friend made his own copy from mine seems ok. carl.
  3. how much are these loler inspector courses?? preasumeably it would benefit any climber when checking their own gear, to have a greater understanding of its saftey. how long are the courses.
  4. intresting thread, just a few questions to add. who runs loler inspector courses? if there were no legal obligations to loler ones own climbing kit would people still get it done or would they rely on their own visual inspection and knowledge of what they have done to the kit. just curios to hear peoples thoughts on this, i climb on my own gear and its fairly new but i dont want to be complacent with it. hope this made some sense! thanks carl
  5. i think there are two main types of srt in tree work type one is just to accsess the crown using techniques from rope acsess and caving etc, this has been used in tree work for some time particulaly big trees in oz and the like. second type which has been recently pionered by the invention of the rope wrench uses a single rope to work the whole tree and perform normal work( not just acsess) try looking up srt, rope wrench vids on you tube, should give you an idea, the best bet would be to get shown by somone in the flesh tho. hope this info is correct and helps . srt is very efficient and time saving in a lot of tree work imo and well worth at least watching and trying. cheers carl.
  6. if you install anchor from the ground get a few guys to weight test it first should give you an idea of its stregnth, i guess in thoery one can anchor to anything as long as its strong enough! i reckon dead limbs should be avioded if possible tho.
  7. is this a new version of the ms 192t top handle? looks good for pruning, had a quick go of the old 192t and that was nice and light to use.
  8. sounds fun, my mum is in france bit north of you ,the french forestry style is nice mainly chestnut coppice , we also have a small piece of wood there too. dont know anything about forestry but i would imagine a normal tractor would be the best bet as it can also run splitters and winches etc. not sure about work camps as most britts seem to go a bit mad on the cheap booze!! any photos of the woodland?? carl
  9. trouble with the local dealer bit in ireland is that their prices are allways well steep, even with courier costs its often hundereds cheaper to get saws sent from the uk, a ms 201t is 1000 euro at a local dealer near me! it seems that if you are an existing customer that dealers in the uk will send saws to the republic. funny theres no restrictions on climbing equipment as if you didnt know how to use it iam sure you could do just as much damage to youself as with a saw. carl
  10. hi thanks for the replys, i reckon it will cost a bit and be a bit of hassel so im guessing it will go for export, shame as i like the engine and the fact it is simple without ecu, turbo etc. cheers carl
  11. hi has anyone on here done a conversion with a perkins 4362 ( thinks thats the no.?) engine into a landrover?? was it much work? and what would one have to pay for an old landrover without an engine?? i have a camper with the perkins engine in thats just about had it due to rust but the engine is low miles and a1 and would be shame to part with it. thanks carl
  12. i do and have done for a few years now really rate it, the fact that its always the same . teamed it up with the rope wrench a few months back and its now better again. would be curious to try a spider jack out of intrest too. carl
  13. found the lanyard thing to be a pain, i just have a piece of bungee tied on the back of the harness with a small crab on end, use it for frog walking up and when climbing up the branches it tends the wrench for ya, and also spiking it does the same. hope you are keeping well munky! carl
  14. how about swapping the ART cabmium saver for a rope wrench and try out SRT ( no need for a cambium saver then) i find its a great system. also the lock jack is good pricey too but for me it takes away all the hassles of the hitch!! tachyon is a nice light rope to use too. carl
  15. can you guys not do the next catagory up the C liesence?? or is it mega bucks, not sure in the uk as i did mine in ireland , not used it much but handy not to have to worry about limits. carl
  16. just checked the instructions for the vertex and it said a maximum of ten years from manufacturing date, but maybe iam guessing that arb ones should be replaced a bit more often?? carl
  17. mulching blade is my new favourite tool, the stuff just dissapers ,no more forking piles of brambles about! nylon head for most short grass and then flat metal blade for long grass so you can sweep it into rows for easy collection. carl
  18. also if your limb walking ie not going straight down you can grab the rope above the lockjack and slacken it then let it out with your hand kinda hard to explain but the best thing for the lock jack is a rope wrench i found it made desecnts loads smoother and more controld and as the friction is always the same with srt you can really get used to it. and as others have said when the cams wear a bit it becomes easier. stick with it loads easier than a hitch imo! cheers carl
  19. ok i hadnt thought of that as i thought it worked on contact like roundup, i will read up on it as id rather have weeds than dead trees! thanks carl
  20. yes there are. thanks carl
  21. just wondering when is the best time to apply selective weed killer onto a lawn to remove docks , plantaine, buttercup etc.?? also which products comes recomended?? thanks carl
  22. just got a two prong mulcher blade, its a bit lighter than the others so seems ok although would like a bigger machine before i ruin the small one, seriously great on bramble compared to a normal blade to waste just dissapers! thanks carl
  23. i have been thinking of getting one of these bent mucher blades but when picked one up in the shop it was very heavy. my machine is a husky 133R so not that beefy, i use a light blade on it for bramble which is fine , i just felt the mulcher may be a bit much, so wondering what other peolpe think/know?? thanks carl.
  24. good post and good luck with your projects
  25. the boss had a look and found that the wires going into the original box had a dodgy connection( as pete b suggested) so lot of hassle and parts etc for somthing simple, bit embarrasing really but hopefully its sorted now. thanks again for all the help carl
