  2. are these saws any good? what is an old one worth? what max bar will they run? thanks carl
  3. yep love my 18v lith ion makita drill.
  4. thanks for input , i went for the scott easy green and it has done the job so happy enough thanks. carl.
  5. how about ringing around your area and seeing if anyone would be intrested in your service/idea?? my limited experience with the older ones (1988) is that is always somthing going wrong with them be it major or minor. they are very versetile tho, are they that good off road?? had our one stuck loads but that could be down to dodgy driving! good luck with your project( wish i had 50k to invest!!!) carl
  6. hope he is found safe and sound. carl
  7. yes theres an asparagus patch, although they had finished up when we moved in so looking forward to eating them soon. i think my girlfriend is doing her best to plant every vegetable known to man, it has an irigation system so cuts labour a lot.
  8. nice looking tree house. good luck.
  9. looking forward to some nice veg this year as we are looking after a place with a mega polytunnel, been busy filling it up with muck all winter.
  10. nice and acurate but surley a massive risk of the dead top going through the patio door?? i think if i was already up the i would of felled bits out but just my way. carl
  11. do people not just use the natural forks in the tree for redirects that they do not intend to return to?? or is there a saftey reason against it? thamks carl
  12. good photos dan, i think the srt style can really win out in these situations of dodgy or awkward tip,s, seems to me to be a lot safer than just one point. how is the unicender compared with lock j+rw? thanks carl.
  13. sorry heres the after shot:001_smile:
  14. managed to get one tree done, as was blowing a gale and wet all morning and stoped just long enough for me to think it was a good idea to start work then pissed it down again, so a slippy climb. photos arnt great as was raining, dedcided to prune the leaning limbs hard and if it bushes up too bad then ill remove the tree. should be able to go a lot lighter on the remaining trees. carl
  15. could just be somthing really simple(.ie dud battery, cold weather) the plus side of a vehicle where everything needs fixing is once done you should have a good truck, a bit odd but i think there is some logic in there! hope you get it sorted. carl
  16. yep nearly bought a pair today but got swayed by the really cheap burgers instead. lol
  17. that could be a possibilty, there seems to three categorys of tree 1- bad lean and form. 2- ok but bit leggy 3- nice enough dense crown. so i guess down the line cat 1/2 may go, but they are the biggest trees on the site with no targets around( apart from other planting) so keen to keep as many as poss. i think iam going to reduce and balance cat 1 tree,s and lightly reduce cat 2 tree,s and then maybey light thin on the cat 3 tree. probably do sum tommorrow so may put up sum shots (or not!) depending how they look:lol: as there seems to be some reduction artists on arbtalk and iam pretty sure iam not one of them! thanks carl.
  18. thanks again i will disscuss the regrowth aspect futher with them, there are no cost implications(unfortuantly!) as its family. i think i will have to reduce some of the longer/leaning end weighted at least. i think thinning would deffinitly cause lions tailing as there kinda like that anyhow. thanks carl
  19. weather looks pretty mild. thanks for the input i will think it over and disscuss with them, iam not sure wether removing them is an option though. can you thin the regrowth to create a better shape crown? thanks carl.
  20. a point that i had not considered, how cold is cold?? its a fairly mild part of the world? thanks carl
  21. thanks for that pointing out that really obvious minor detail which i had over looked. made me laugh . think i will just go for the cheapy one as suggested. thanks carl
  22. i have been asked to reduce some small eucs ( 30ft ish). reasons being they are on an exposed site, and there is shrub planting underneath that requires more light. they are also a bit unbalanced due to prevailing winds. question is how hard to go on them?? people often seem to go real hard on eucs because they reshoot, but not sure wether this is great in the long run. would normaly just get on with it but its for a family member so want to do the best for them and their trees as they care about them which is nice for a change:001_rolleyes: a few photos but hard to get clear shots. thanks carl
  23. iam looking to buy a lawn spreader for moss killa, i dont want to spend loads as i probably wont use it much. i have found a push one on grim reaper for £55 that looks ok. the thing is they have a towable one for £80 that looks way better built, so i was thinking i could make a handle for the tow one and use it as both tow and push. is this a good idea ??? any thoughts thanks carl
  24. glad its not just me! have spent ages trying to get it together properly:lol:
  25. take out the foam pads and all the straps and machine wash, comes out sa new. p.s i found it tricky to take apart but worth it. carl
