i guess its down to your luck, i started as a trainee, and was very lucky to be given a lot of time, attention ,training, tickets etc and on the flipside have now been working in the same company for 8 yrs, but at the end of the day you need to find what works for you and your business.

digger drivers and trees and their roots never seem to mix in my experience, either a quick tidy around the root zone or a re landscape to about 1 foot up the trunk, its a shame as most drivers i have worked with are super skilled and careful....once told. carl

we have used wire rope crimps and hose pipe round the trunks and fencing stakes knocked into the ground, seems to work fine. carl

thanks garden kit, that all sounds possible as i had to replace one hanger and attatch the other , ill get under there and have a good look as keen to get it to cut right as it flies round my lawn (when its not too long). thanks carl.

ive got a john deere mower with a freedom 42 mulching deck, and i have just welded the deck and now the "V" deck belt keeps getting a twist in it and seems quiet hot and also squeeks and start up ??? it apparently all worked before it needed welding and i havent touched the toothed timing belt, any ideas would be great thanks. carl

hi david my 2 cents worth.. i cant see any way you can become a gardener without some form of motorised transport idaelly a van, example simple hedge job , clippings staying onsite, ladders , hedgetrimmer, rake, petrol, toolbox etc going to be pushed getting that into a wheelbarrow not to mention looking like a bit of a plonker!! tools and vehicle are essential for work and they arnt cheap to get or run so without cash its gonna be very difficult imo. good luck carl

i think the wet is the problem in ireland, i spent ages killing the moss and scarifiyin the crap out of it and over the wet winter its back again just as bad.

i want to get some chipper spec ( the black and red ones) ear defenders for my petzel vertex helmet, will they fit and can i attatch a normal mesh visor on?? got the msa ones but find they get soaked with sweat and arnt great. thanks carl

i often think its down to bad decisions by planners and designers, putting trees near roads seems a bit stupid if your not going to care for them properly, shrubs would be better at least the dont mind being hacked as much and wont pose a threat to the road. carl -

thanks for posting about this, iam always keen to hear details, so he climbed above his anchor then slipped and shock loaded his anchor ? did the anchor fail due to a weak fork? glad he is ok. thanks carl
