  1. as far as i know there is no recall on the mk2 one, just a news update saying they now have had six broken ones back and dont know why they broke.
  2. ye i had a look and it does look versatile, although ive always found hitches a pain to get to run spot on, were as mechanical is the same each day ( unless it breaks of course!) thanks carl
  3. whats worring me is in there saftey update they say they cant work out how they broke so to me that suggests that they are not testing them rigorously enough. oh and its now six that have been sent back , starting to think about swapping my new one for a lockjack while its still in the packet. carl
  4. oh great you couldnt of started this thread earlier!!! just back from the shops with my new zig zag.........typical...lol carl.
  5. cool project, love the dodge 50,s had two as campers but sadly they rusted away to being scrapped, can still hear the lovely sound of that perkins engine now!! lol carl
  6. will have a look at the hitch hiker, i now have a zig zag on loan for a bit so will give it a try. i must admit i have been using the lockjack with the rope wrench mk1 for a good while and never really had problems with it not engaging, but i understand that neither zz or lj were designed with srt in mind. thanks carl
  7. yes i guess its down to preference. why would you not recommend the use of the lockjack / RW combo?? carl
  8. what are your thoughts in relation to double rope and rope wrench srt climbing, pros and cons of each??? i think its time to replace my lockjack. thanks carl
  9. looks like a fun job, dread to think what that one tree cost the guy! great kit too.
  10. i find that shaking the rope has much better results than just pulling in that scenario.
  11. hardly appropriate hiking or bushwhacking attire! thanks again for the great photos, hatching a plan to visit for my 40th but that is donkeys years away so plenty time to save.
  12. not as bad as getting the rings the wrong way round, or just pulling it through forgetting you used a cambium saver.!
  13. best off trying them on and probably spend as much as you can as the cheaper ones tend to be heavier and hotter. i preffer the pfanner stretch air trousers. as far as i know there are no trousers specificly for women( not that i have really looked!) carl
  14. i used the end of a hi-ab to deadwood a monkey puzzle! prob not best practice but did avoid having to climb it. good luck
  15. in my earlier posts i was referring more to the loss of licences, than fines.
  16. thanks we dont seem to get so many jobs that require them both, nice part of the world and a hell of a lot less leylandis standing after the feb storm.
  17. there should be no difference wether you have a bussiness employing one or a thousend or are on the dole, the act is just a dangerous in all cases. not saying i havent done it when i was younger mind but sure wouldnt consider it now. carl
  18. mewp, skid steer, ropes etc, i think it wouldnt of been hard to that in a safer fashion, always seems to be in america and often mega trees taken on by home owners with a kind of "can do" attitude, bit scary really.
  19. few shots of a job of a load of windblown leylands gone into a garden with no access. the hiab made it pretty easy as could get the stuff out over the low wall right to the chipper:thumbup1:
  20. a double stake and cross piece would look smart as there uniform, but if they dont need it even better.
  21. i guess its down to your luck, i started as a trainee, and was very lucky to be given a lot of time, attention ,training, tickets etc and on the flipside have now been working in the same company for 8 yrs, but at the end of the day you need to find what works for you and your business.
  22. digger drivers and trees and their roots never seem to mix in my experience, either a quick tidy around the root zone or a re landscape to about 1 foot up the trunk, its a shame as most drivers i have worked with are super skilled and careful....once told. carl
  23. good to see some replanting, hope you gave them a good drink! they were stable enough with no staking? carl
