  1. Come on my post wasnt misleading at all! I said 'As far as I know' and 'it shouldnt' which is fairly accurate anyway.(it takes roughly 3000V to jump 1mm in air) Of course I wouldnt want anyone messing about with electricity and getting injured, but really, if they are asking question about power lines they shouldnt be going near them. Plus I was pointing out we should all check our extension leads now and then:001_tongue:
  2. If you know all the facts then please post them. Im fairly sure its the voltage not the amps that make electricity jump. Also how does the breaker make a difference?ie are you really sure the extension lead is less of a risk? Ill remember your last coment when I see you post something that I know is nt 100% right eh?
  3. I bet no one hesitates for a second pulling an old extension lead out of the shed then plugging it in to there lawn mower etc! As far as I know LV won't jump gaps and surely it shouldn't be a problem with pin holes in the sheath etc. Not saying we should go around grabbing the cables though!
  4. Yep thats it! Forget what I said, I can now blame the tools! Cheers MR cut4fun.
  5. I was being a bit dramatic on the 10K, checked today and its more like 8.5K, best to over estimate spending I suppose.
  6. It does indeed. I am a bit of a whopper when it comes to the depth gauges, I usually forget about them then wallop them down. Although my depth gauge is well and truly shiny and only got used on the new chain when I was desperate! Its like those groove scrapers, I buy one every fews years only to find it disappear within about 3 days of buying it! I'm still just buying the oregon ATM as the work I'm doing is battering the saws and the full chisel doesnt last 2 minutes. I always wondered why they didnt make a full chisel for the 020, maybe part of Stihls long term plans to blag us. If only someone would do a back to back comparison like mentioned, now who said they were going to do that?
  7. Cant believe no one has cottoned on to the obvious problem I pretended I had. I would have thought it was plainly obvious that the depth gauges needed a bit more filing than normal since they have a silly anti kick back thingy!!!!! Even though they look good to the eye and a depth gauge says they are fine they have a hided line on either side to show where to file to! Come on, I thought you were all professional chainsaw users!!!
  8. Would it be possible to heat the blade to remove the hardness, sharpen then reharden? Could possibly ruin the blade but id its going to get thrown out it might be worth a try. I made a knife from an old file by annealing and hardening so it isnt rocket science, whether its worth the hassle is another matter though.
  9. You know its an illusion but a little something still makes you think it is real magic! The guy is brilliant.
  10. Sounds scary stuff Andy but here's hoping all is well. Good luck to everyone packing in, it's the best thing you can do to improve your health:thumbup: I've packed in for not that far off 2 years now, well I have had the odd 1 and bought a packet of 10 not so long ago when I had some bad news BUT I haven't touched any since and consider myself lucky I can have the odd smoke and not start right back up again. I used patches, gum and one of those electric cigs all at the same time it was ace! apparently though using an aid can not only help you kick the habit but also maintain it and not go back. My advice is to not think of yourself as a smoker trying to give up, just think of yourself as a non smoker. Once again good luck all.
  11. Must be as it looks closeish to the bt lines but far enough away from the lv cables. Could be a gang of midget working on that job in which case they will have nothing to worry about.
  12. I've noticed quite a few dead and also very poor looking birch this year. I put it down to the harsh winter we had.
  13. I know! I really need to buy a yard rather than waste it on rent but a good one is hard to find and I reckon a business mortgage wont be cheap!
  14. I doubt it. I think you are more likely to be in a minority that.. 1 Can actually be bothered to voice their opinion. 2 Will tell the truth about such matters not caring who is watching. Can those who are all for the refresher honestly say they keep up with every ticket AND all freelancers and subbies they work with, work for and employ do the same? Afertall it's only really are own safety while working in this industry, most others would be putting the public at risk far more often than we do. Anyone know if it's just the UK that try to make us jump through more and more hoops?
  15. Half a worm in your apple?
  16. I wonder if he has done his 5 year refresher course? Oh no he won't have as he doesn't need one.
  17. Nothing wrong with that at all! BTW I have nothing to do with selling it.
  18. I rent a smallish yard that all in costs around 10K a year. Have too much stuff to store at home plus dont have to worry about noise and its a lot more secure, which is prob the most important thing:thumbup1:(up to now touch wood!)
  19. Ok, ok, my bad refresher it is then! Still costs money and time for no good reason whatsoever.
  20. I would say make it 3 but if I have to do anything them im out! Seriously though would be interesting if anyone does do the 5 year reassessment, other than those in LA's etc. Put a poll up maybe?
  21. I've seen a good chunk of the human race and believe me they are the problem. No seriously though that type of thing hardly ever happens so like other things I certainly don't worry or dwell on them, just a 10 second rant now and then. Sometimes I do think i am really lucky with customers when I read of all the probs that a lot seem to have on a daily basis! Oh, I also think that nearly everyone likes to think they don't entertain fools.
  22. So you never ever get that type of person asking you for a quote?
  23. Actually I meant to add but too late to edit, is it really worth listening to a bunch of arb blokes on a forum on this subject tbh! I dont mean my offense but it's not just your life we are speculating on. Please seek specialist advice, all we can say is you can slip, you can fall you you can easily be injured and easily sustain abdominal injuries.
  24. I think I would seek the advice of a midwife etc rather than your GP or course leader tbh. As mentioned its usually falls that cause big problems rather than exercise which is encouraged.. Is it really worth chancing it?
  25. Dont get me wrong I can still have a right good whinge with the best of them when I drive past jobs that I quoted for months before and have never been touched. Theres nothing wrong in having a bit of a whine as long as you just move on and dont let it bother you at all. The worst ones I think are when you go out to look at a simple job(well it sounds like over the phone) that before long turns into "Can you also trim this, fell that, prune the other, err maybe not fell that but prune it, well can I have a price to fell it and another price to prune it oh and can you give me a price for this one, and can you price them all individually then give me a price altogether at a discount?":001_rolleyes: Waste of a perfectly good stamp sometimes!
