  1. They newer style husqvarna visors are about the best I've used in the rain, but they'll still hold water at times. I find if it's causing a problem, don't wipe at it, just flick the visor up then back down again and it should shed a good amount of it. Or just sit in drinking tea when it's raining
  2. Same here, even think mine smoked Condor too
  3. Why try to reinvent the wheel? processed logs, yes, all day by volume, but roundwood - weight is weight, you can't argue quite as easily with a weigh ticket. Volume can be easily manipulated to suit either party when stacking. Maybe we're just stuck in our ways round here, but I can't see it changing anytime soon (mill grade hardwood excepted maybe) I was leaning towards roadside too
  4. Are you talking stacked roundwood at roadside or as cut and split logs?
  5. This guy shouldn't be far away from you. Pocklington Sawmill I've not bought from him but know someone who has and was pleased with price and quality, they were untreated larch too.
  6. That's the great thing with the Vinduros rather than modern enduros - no one takes it massively seriously and the checks are fairly slack Reckon if he'd not stopped I'd probably have still been there now - was on Buzzsurgeon's TE 350 (a fairly heavy bike to start with) after my KTM ate another set of front wheel bearings and it was already encased in lots of heavy mud too!
  7. I stopped part way through and Enduro this afternoon to help a guy lift his bike out of a bog he'd tried burying his bike in. Good job I did as did exactly the same the following lap and who happened to come along just after me - yep same bloke, phew.
  8. We got ours from Riko, can't remember how much but it's a substantial lump. We bought it specifially for one site but never needed it in the end - I can see if we might part with it if interested? EDIT: did you mean a normal quick release one or a self releasing one? Ours is a self releasing one. for the normal quick release ones, pretty much any of the places that supply forestry winches will have them.
  9. Just going back a couple of pages, to climbers who won't do anything but climb. Putting the boot on the other foot, surely they'd have something to say if they had to come down and fill their own saw up each time/swap to a bigger saw/do their own lowering/ untangle their own ropes etc without any help from the men on the ground.
  10. My understanding with the low sap i more for hardwood sawlog material - I don't fully understand why, other than I know the mills don't like Sycamore once it starts going orange when the sap rises. In the past we've managd to fell sycamore a little later in the season by felling, leaving in full feather for a week til the leaves started shrivelling and then snedding. As far as I know softwood logs can be felled any time.
  11. Fortunately for us over here, the lack of a spark arrestor's not likely to cause any problems. I had my 372 ported and find it much nicer to use. Is it any less safe - I don't think so. At the end of the day it's a petrol engine with a sharp spinning bit on one end - it wasn't exactly safe to start with......
  12. I'd agree with that
  13. These are/were the UK importer for the Hud Son mills - could see if they're bringing that model across Just Saws Products
  14. Morning Jim, Those smaller ones with the extendable cranes look a nice bit of kit. Do they do a 3-4t trailer with 4(ish)m crane and is there a hydraulic drive opition?
  15. Looks a good thing, get wheelbarrow sat underneath and it'd be well quick
  16. Sorry if it's already been raised, but on the undercutting thing, just because you feel it's going to cot you X amount to do and take X number of men X number of days, doesn't mean everyone else that quotes for it is thinking of doing it exactly the same way - just because it's cheaper doesn't mean it has to be less of a job. Also, just because someone does a job for the wood, why do some people automatically assume they have no insurance/tickets etc?
  17. Done some work with another member on here who runs kangoo type vans and seems to be able to get them into some places you just wouldn't think possible. Does seem momentum is the key, however that does seem to mean things wear out/fall off quicker if his last one was anything to go by
  18. Somwhere I have a photo of an 80 series that somone did that to. It looked good enough that it could have even rolled out of the factory. Prety sure the pic might be on here somewhere already if I can't find it.
  19. That's all well and good, but if it takes paying people extra to do the job they're employed to do in the first place, then maybe they're not the best guys to have working for you to start with.
  20. Bet the noise was fantastic with the two of them pulling hard.
  21. Have done similar to that in the past too, though the back of the tractor was such that I managed to get he levers to sit in a fairly comfortable position eventually - when I first started there you were about hangig out the cab window to use them. Bolted a piece of steel sheet to the block folded to hook over the piece of box section so quick to remove if need be. Only used 3pl mounted crane a couple of times and it's not half as good as you might expect - there's a lot of movement on the linkage, especially out sideways.
  22. That's good to know about the general grabbers - I very nearly went for them instead of the BFG AT earlier in the week but the difference in price on a set of 4 wasn't really that much. After wearing the last set of BFG muds out I ended up on remoulds for a while but it handled like a big bowl of jelly. Sliced one open on a bit of stone and figured it was time to upgrade - back to BFG and it's like a different truck again
  23. the JMS stuff now is sold under AM machinery (or used to be a few years ago) ATV products - AM Machinery
  24. My 550 likes a drink. Reckon on softwood thinning it'll do a tank in about 20-25 min compared to more like 30-35 from a 560. Don't know how the tanks compare for size though.
  25. I'd be pretty upset if they only lasted 20,000 miles Last set of BFG muds I had on (old shape) did something like 80,000 miles before getting replaced.
