  1. It's an interesting topic.... I think the AA have come along way with their scheme to allow smaller businesses gain approved status - I don't know how this has been received though?
  2. Cracking bit of kit I made a small table like this the other day and didn't look nearly so good as this.... I'll try again i think with some more interesting bits as you have the proportions better than I had them.

    Stihl EZ file

Oh I see... They are all really pretty much the same... I'd stick to the Stihl ones if they work fine for you. The Oregon ones and vallorbe file guides are pretty much identical.... or lookswise to me anyways!

    Stihl EZ file

I dunno really. All files stihl, oregon and vallorbe are all the same and are all made by vallorbe. They just have a different name on them that's the only difference (or so my sources tell me). The filing guides are good - Products for the category: Filing guides for getting the chain teeth the same length but if you're out and about or in a hurry you'll hate them! Notice the oregon and stihl ones are identical apart from the colour and price! I tend to still use round files but use the granberg12 volt sharpeners when in the field for speed.... Products for the category: 12 volt sharpeners .... there's nothing out there that stands out head and shoulders above the rest - more horses for courses!! I use a range of stuff and they all work.

    Stihl EZ file

I think they're 2 pretty different things as Powersharp is good but never really cuts as well as normal chain - I've done a vid for Powersharp which I'll put up in a sec. The EZ file with normal chain will prove cheaper by far in the long run if you know how to sharpen a chain. Powersharp is really for the home owner who bins a chain after it goes blunt the first time!

    Stihl EZ file

I'd say it's ok and does a good job but not revolutionary .... The hassal is you have to buy a whole new EZ file for different chain sizes so better off with just one for the main size chain you sharpen. But it does def save time and once you get the hang of it the depth guages are always set as you're sharpening. It's the sort of thing some people will love and never look back and others will hate IMO
  7. A vid I did for chainsawbars website but better posted here. It's quite good in that it shows the whole process. Was a bit knackered when I made this on a blowy day but it's a handy one if you're a complete novice to chainsaw milling.
  8. Oh I see what you mean.... yes could be one again for the future but the trouble is it's a lot of work for what prob is a pretty small market..... But put it down in my 'food for thought' pad
  9. Could maybe look into harvester stuff at a later date as well but do you think there would be much of a market for them? i.e. bars, chains and sprockets for harvesters?

    The Boss

He's not a fave of mine but you go and have yourself a rare good ol time Mr Bolam! Will you be wearing your Stetson?
  11. As this is more a sponsored forum I'll be posting vids of products regularly. Some of these vids may seem condescending and some may think "he's talking downright rubbish....." Either way if you can pull a couple of bits of useful info from them there's no harm been done! First is the Stihl EZ file which takes depth guages down the same time as you file the chain. It works pretty well although still not an ideal solution.... IMO there still needs to be a tool for doing the most tedious job of sharpening which is accurately reducing depth guages on a chain. They can be found on CSB site here Products for the category: EZ file [ame] [/ame]
  12. Thanks - yes what you can do is make your order up online and go all the way through to the payment page. Then when it's asking you card type hit the small cancel button. This generates the order then I can call you back to collect card details and will send Royal Mail.
  13. Fair enough but what have you found that is more expensive? I looked at all other retail sites (inc Clarkes) and prices are either a little above, the same or even cheaper. I'm glad you found it easy to navigate as this was one of the primary aims of the site.
  14. Cheers.... yes I think it looks like I'll try to add Husky sooner than I thought... Firewood processors bits - do Oregon do the sprockets for these? If they don't it would be difficult to get the parts on a trade basis.
  15. Ahhh - yep makes perfect sense. Thanks
  16. Ho Ho! Knew I was doing something wrong by hanging onto that saw cutting thing
  17. You're right but the trouble is with the length of some of the chains and with how the boxes are styled it's not possible to fit it in.... But I know what you're saying it would be better to have it there before you have to click it.
  18. That is a seriously tall tree. I noticed that as the top came off there was very little 'twang' - how'd you get the top to come off cleanly like that? Small gob and cutting through the hinge as it goes over?
  19. I see what you mean.... It just starts getting a bit complicated with doing all the links.....
  20. That's prob what will end up happening. But to do that within the site you have to then give every item a weight and then get the site to calculate how much for each destination.... For the future that's what I'll be aiming for but for now I opted for the easier option
  21. Thanks - the carving bars are there in the 'more info' bit on pages 4, 5 and 6 of the bar manual pdf.
  22. Yes Husky and Stihl have different bar mountings.... but Husky is part of 'phase 2' planned in 3 months.
  23. It is there in the section on vat and delivery. £25-00 + vat which is what I pay UPS up to 25kg..... not cheap I know... I will send smaller bits via royal mail but this will have to be via a phone order. At this stage to get the site to work out postage by weight was too complicated. From Alaskan mills several orders via royal mail get lost in the post and it's almost impossible to claim back the money. So all website orders will go by signed courier.
  24. Yes bold statements indeed.... time will tell! Try it and see what you think. The bar selectors other websites do have but the sprocket one that also lists rims and bearings is pretty unique and there is also selectors specifically for carving....
