    2012

according to the Mayan calender, the world is going to end this year, which is a shame in some ways, but at least I won't have to worry about my tax bill....beer?...yes please!
  3. ha ha!, premium lungeing Steve..proving that 'pain is a mere sensation'..top man!...now, the nurses.....what about the nurses!
  4. nothing wrong at all with what the big fella did - by natural law. If some of these scrotes had the threat of people gripping them they wouldn't behave unreasonably in public as they do . However...in the eyes of the law...it was assault. Sadly, the only thing wrong with this whole episode is some idiot filming the episode and posting it on the internet. The days of a swift slap to restore order seem to have gone...because of technology and political correctness...its a great time to break the law, abuse people and generally be a disrespectful little oink...you CAN get away with it!
  5. ouch!, time for a bit of healing time delegation at work!..hope it heals well and quickly mate
  6. Done a few bat surveys over the years and have never seen a bat!. I am, however, in the habit of sticking my camera in hollow trees and taking a snap upwards..I've taked pics of a bat, a huge spider and seen some pretty awesome views of the inside of hollow trees ...try it!
  7. My Arbogruntess got me a little radio controlled helicopter that flies around inside the house and shoots little missiles..Oh yes!!!!. Trouble is, with 3 teenage boys having a go too, the batteries are flat already
  8. Nice pic deerman!...Steve in all his glory!
  9. Terry, Cedarwood are selling a 4 tonne tirfor winch with a couple of ropes, its worth giving them a buzz mate. have a good xmas, spend some quality time out of your tree! ;)

  10. As has been said, rate is about right. Been putting some LONG days in too. I've found doing my own jobs has helped out as freelancing has been a bit intermittent over the last couple of years. Expect to work as hard as you can to just keep your head above water......and welcome home!
  11. always use a bowline with a steel 50kn Krab, unless I'm doing hoofing great lumps or theres a chance of the krab being damaged on the ground. Its quicker for the groundies and the climber. As long as you don't exceed the swl, the spine is aligned and the gate is away from the tree/limb, its no problem.
  12. I'd say £550-£600
  13. the guy has learnt from his mistake and walked away from it...I would've had a smaller piece and let it run..live and learn!...no one ever complains about not being hit by a lump of wood
  14. ...a tax rebate instead of the hoofin' great bill I've got next month!
  15. haha!, maybe its the milk bottle bottom, NHS specs I'm wearing then?
  16. there was a 'halo' round the moon last night, its an omen!, beware! ...old wives tale is that there will be a bad storm
  17. we need a bit down here in Essex, I'm doing my stormdance!
  18. 15m Teupen tracked narrow access, £400/day inc operator down here. I just got quoted £300/day for a 25m Genie..but it was £100 each way for delivery! (no operator). That was too much for the customer, so the 2 big, dead, Ash trees roadside, are staying there till the next storm! I only get a MEWP in as a last resort, theres always someone out there to risk climbing a dangerous tree (or putting one of their blokes up there). These days, I'd rather have a day off!
  19. good to see some current military first aid practice getting passed down to us tree men. Lets face it, some of the places we work are pretty remote, if the worse happens YOU need to keep your mate alive or vice versa!
  20. you need to be able to demonstrate a 3 knot closed system....ie, a bowline with a prussik/blakes etc tied on a tail and the relevant stop knots. I wouldn't worry too much, your instructor will take you through it all, but mastering the basics will speed things up a bit
  21. I've been climbing one since the Arbshow. I tried as many 'sit' harnesses as I could as I can't do without a seat, I find it uncomfortable. At first glance the Swing LOOKS uncomfortable!, when I got my weight in it, I found it to be the best of the bunch. I use a Petzl swivel mounted onto the bridge (easy to install), which is great with my lockjack. I've also added a sliding dee from my old harness for use with secondary climb lines, don't use it that often, but it nice to have on there (and I don't like attaching a krab directly to a bridge). Not good for any kind of hedgework, its a pure 'climb' harness, I've got an old willans for that. Try before you buy, a few of my mates have tried it on and didn't like the big seat!
  22. I didn't know you Scots chappies did cockney rhyming slang!
  23. ...and can I get out of your chipbox stevie...it was a false alarm...
  24. 'he uses the end of his climbing line as a lowering line...' whoa!, used to do that on a firm I started with 18 years ago..until the day one of the groundies put the branch I had just self -lowered on my climb line straight into the chipper!!!!...he heard me screaming over the noise and stopped it (and the end of my lifeline) going in. My anchor point was already bending over alarmingly....a close call:thumbdown:. I climb for an old school firm now and then who hate me using lowering pulleys and devices. Its hard work, things get stuck, I'm up and down the tree untangling pieces...but the fun of watching the rope burn through their gloves as they get dragged across the lawn makes all worthwhile!...Flintstones treecare..you can keep it! I do whatever is easier and safer and quicker to rig down a tree.
  25. Just tell her mate...no logs in boot = no logs!, just kip in yer chainsaw trousers and a fleece mate
