  1. I've had a shufti on the search and apart from a few pointers from the Arb Assoc, haven't found what I need. Has anybody got a 'crib' for a COSHH statement specific to Arb?. I've got a construction one but its pretty irrelevant. Thanks in advance.
  2. the fact is, when we pull out of Afghan, they will fight us somewhere else. Its nothing to do with gas, oil or Afghans rights...they are our enemies and they will kill us wherever and whenever they can. Fact. Are we winning, No.
  3. tanker drivers...£47,000 a year...and they need to go on strike?...make 'em all self-employed, no sickpay, no holidays and see if they want to down tools then..no?...I didn't think so. This is just blackmail pure and simple. They should pay the Squaddies who are going to be driving these wagons tanker drivers pay until they go back to work!
  4. too right mate, these oxygen thieves would fill their pants if they had to stand up and do what our lads are doing right now.
  5. sounds to me like someones been eating Finch, Chimps and mushy bee's again
  6. the best thing you can do is work for local companies...no point in spending 2 hours a day driving and £25 a day on diesel when you could just earn the same money with the firm around the corner. As fuel has gone up it has killed freelancing for me..I did £4,000 diesel last year...I now work locally!
  7. too true mate, if we we're all self-employed the country would be WORKING its way out of recession!
  8. if it kills our enemies effectively in time of war...do it.
  9. I've always gone for; company name, logo, phone no and mobile no if you want to put it on. Anymore than than is just clutter...
  10. silky, grillon and strop, retrieve ball, spare krab, karitool clip. In conifer hedges...sidestrop and nothing else.
  11. Blimey Geoff, you'll split yer difference!
  12. Both!...I quite often use bigshot and throwline with a pantine for accessing big trees, but normally, its a damn sight quicker going up a ladder then climbing up to anchor using a couple of changeovers. There are times when a BIG ladder is a godsend...why waste time getting in when you can be pruning and earning your money??
  13. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed with the Jenny link, I thought I was going to see a vigourous, scantily clad, car wash operative!
  14. grid to mag...add......mag to grid...get rid...
  15. not a religous person myself, but I do have spiritual beliefs. We live in a Christian country and our way of life, laws and the way we conduct our lives are founded on Christian values. I respect that.
  16. Sure it wasn't a Suunto mate ?
  17. I always use a bowline as my termination knot..with a krab..or with larger pieces in a running bowline. I hate spending needless time tieing in and having the groundies tieing and untieing knots. As long as its within your swl (and it only reduces the strength of the line by 30%)...tie it.
  18. I may be a bit out of date, but as it used to stand..you are tech evaluated for 30, 31 and 32 together. The fells are 3 x small trees followed by 2 x medium. Good luck!
  19. blimey, you were lucky you weren't grabbed by the ghoulies!....bwa ha ha ha!
  20. The Labour MP responsible is an ex-officer in the Black Watch!..I think he might be out of a job...anyone need a groundie in Lanark?
  21. nail on the head mate!...this isn't just treework...its recession treework!
  22. 'How do freelancers get around the need for an aerial rescuer? Or shouldn't I ask' I've been freelancing for about 10 years..I always used to climb with aerial rescue cover...the last few years have seen lots of tree-firms employing unqualified staff and the AE cover is pretty sketchy at best and totally non-existant at worse...recession = cutting corners. Its up to freelance climbers to ensure their clients provide them with a CS38 qualified groundie....or take the work and hope they never need one
  23. Blimey, thats inflation for you, you used to be able to 'ease-springs' for half a rat-pack in Kenya...apparently!
  24. 'Spike, I've had mine about the same time and I've just sent it back!' ...I took mine back into Stantons a few months back, the stop switch wasn't working. I assumed it would be the age old 020 problem with the spade coming off the contact in the handle, but they were ok. Turned out to be a 1 minute job putting a wire back on by the starter mechanism. I got shot of the Stihl chain and I use Oregon 91....great saw in big wood and smaller pruning cuts. I must've got a good one!
  25. these people are EXACTLY the type of people I don't work for If people start pulling that line, I just say 'well, you could always wait until the cowboys knock on your door, they'll be cheaper as they don't pay tax or carry any insurance'
