  1. I'd just form a nice "brash nest" with the first dozen or so branches I remove, this would then collect all the bigger stuff, it also protects the grass and fence I guess I just could not face feed a small gravity fed chipper and would expect my lad to. A TW 150 would be about as small as I'd like to go. Each to their own. As for stringing jobs out to keep the customer happy and feeling they got VFM, I gave that up many, many years ago. I sell a finished product, i.e. a removed tree/reduced tree/trimmed hedge, etc. How long it takes is immaterial. If ever questioned about the time a job has taken and the cost. I enquire as to which part of they job they feel has not be delivered? I point out I give quotes, not estimates, so everyone knows where they stand and the only one taking a risk is me.
  2. I had a crewcab LDV about 20 years ago, I dread to think how overloaded it was most of the time:blushing: I recall the tow bar used to hit the ground a lot.
  3. Looks to me like a quick "cut and chuck" into the area where for some reason a guy is stood playing with a rope. Then chuck it over the fence and through a decent sized chipper. Or just crane it out with the palfinger.
  4. Is that the "best practice" that leads to company owners thinking £23K a year is good money
  5. I think part of the problem is that people a given a little information, but don't know all the ins and outs of private Co parking charges. Often you are advised to ignore these "charges" as they are unenforceable, now this can be true but not always. If the Co has suffered an actual financial loss they can and often will take you to court and win. Parking after you payed for time or not paying is financial loss, so they win, nothing the judge can do, thats the law. While my mother was in hospital for a long stay, my father bought a 3 month pass for the carpark. on one occasion he parked other than in a parking bay, he got a ticket for £80. I appealed, they rejected my appeal. I then told them they had no case, as my father had payed. The muppet on the phone tried to tell me the "fine" was because of "health and safety" I laughed and asked if they were the Health&Safety Executive? How ridiculous to suggest that a private Co can impose such "fines" I told them I'd happily see them in court. They send my father scary letter ever 6 months or so, I tell him to bin them.
  6. I think the bigger confusion is between "bark"/"barkchippings" and "chip"/"Woodchip". I often get asked "do you have barkchippings"? I always make it very clear mine is not bark, it's Woodchip. And explain some is very woody and some has much less woody and a lot of foliage. Conifer is also often not wanted by some, so I always make clear what the load they are getting is.
  7. Shame they did not take better care of the cab
  8. That was actually my setup way back when. Alex got me the mog from germany, he had the crane and subframe in his yard. It was originally a U1000, but Alex put a 150hp engine in it for me, it pulled like a train. The problem was payload, it was only a 7500KG vehicle, with the chip box empty the front axel was 180KG over, with the chip box full the front axel was fine, but the rear axel was 2000KG over I discovered this on a ministry weigh bridge Thats when I sold it and got my U1600, which a 10000KG machine. I'm not sure how many owners it had before Stevie got it.
  9. Have you looked at reducing the weight of the Jensen? Can you remove any parts? does it have its own pump and hydraulic oil tank? I took the pump and tank off my Shiesling, just run the rollers from the mog pump.
  10. Massive chip on her shoulder, unfortunately its not uncommon. As if chain making was predominately about slavery Chain making was a huge and very skilled industry. Just take a look at large ship anchor chains. I get a bit tired of being told to be ashamed of my history, because of slavery. The reality is that my ancestors and those of 99% of the population had no part in slavery and as poor people back then our ancestors often had less value than a slave and if unable to find work simply starved.
  11. Yes, not ideal, you really need to get a front mounted chipper, it totally transforms a mog into the ideal tree bus, IMO.
  12. Why not put the crane behind a smaller chip box on the rear? chassis mounted, not on the linkage.
  13. While I accept your doing exactly the right thing. This is a perfect example of how stupid our modern world is and the so call progress Why on earth are they not using refillable containers and getting them refilled? Its utterly bonkers
  14. They were pretty good back in the day, price for the job, none of this hourly rate crap. Way back when, my mog, chipper and operator was £350+vat for a night on the railway, plus £150+vat for me climbing. Martins won the contract, they rang me and offered £270+vat for the mog and operator for a night, I just laughed
  15. IMO, subbing to such organisations is a mugs game, but then there is IME no shortage of mugs.
  16. Just talk your clients into letting the stumps rot away slowly over time

  18. Yes but theres plenty of other work, I really don't need the hassle.
  19. I shall be declining all offers of work from people with plastic grass.
