  1. Yikes!!! glad I was not up it!!!
  2. I did think the very same thing, also why not get the chipper nearer:confused1:
  3. I guess asking them to cover the car because of the sawdust did not work out as you had hopped.
  4. My guess would be payment.
  5. Thats ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If there was ever a sign that you are in the big league, thats it!!!!!!!!
  6. Err no. The LA have the option to put a TPO on any tree within the CE upon notice of intended tree works, if they chose not to apply a TPO, they have little if any control over who or how the work is carried out. I'm not aware of any prosecutions for poor quality work following a CE notification. I'm not sure how such a prosecution would go??? Have the LA deemed the tree of low value by not placing a TPO??? or are they simply happy for the works detailed and expect them to be of high standard???
  7. Can't believe I've had to wade though all this crap looking for the hedge petition and its not here???????WTF???????? :001_rolleyes:
  8. Ebay.
  9. Yes I topped a biggish one (well biggish for over here, maybe 80ft) last year in Padiham, I ended up changing my lanyard for a new length of cord and my 020 still has some resin encrusted on the handle, sticky, sticky!!
  10. Don't get wrong Ian life is still pretty good, I keep my family on just what I earn, but things were really good back then. The stupid thing about prices is that often the customer is happy with my price, then some numpty comes along and quote half my price
  11. Now that I burn kiln dried logs I no longer need kindling, I simply place the logs so they bridge over a fire lighter and they light
  12. The recession caught up with me, I know the recession actually happened in 2008, but that was actually my best ever year and it took 2 years for things to go bad. Back then I had more LA work than I could cope with and my pick of domestic work, there were very few tree surgeons and money was really good, you rarely saw chippers. Now everyones a tree surgeon and many seem to want to work for peanuts, I'm one of the dearest in my area, but I'm charging less than I did 8 years ago.
  13. Nice one Reg, thats pretty cool, did you have the Mission Impossible music playing in your head while doing it??
  14. Do you mean "drop starting"?? I can honestly say in 20 years all the best cutters and climbers I'v worked with drop started their saws. Obviously not some thing you would do on an assessment.
  15. Thats a nice looking big splitter, what make is it???
  16. Lets hope so!! Last year was a shocker for me
  17. There is a guy up Kings Causeway in Nelson who used to ring me all the time wanting timber (he sells logs) in fact he is a member on hear, but I can't remember what he calls himself. Or possibly Peter may be interested if its cheap. Are you no longer doing logs or have you just got more timber than you want to process?
  18. Good luck with this, hope things go well for you
  19. An upside down fire is fine until the first time you refuel, then of cause its suddenly a normal fire again The main reason the fire in the video did not smoke was the fact that the wood was nice and dry.
  20. On a sixpence!!! The ministry put my old one on a rolling road, they were mighty impressed!! They said they were the kind of brakes they would like to see on an artic!!
  21. Surely cutting and splitting allows drying??
  22. It will only be short and you may need to slow it down to catch the detail
  23. Soft is generally nice straight lengths that sit well together, so air gaps are pretty uniform. Hard on the other hand is generally more uneven and sits quite badly, so the air gaps would be difficult to estimate.
