  1. aaaand, where does that say you need CS30? trained and competent can be in house. As said, insurance stipulation
  2. read the original post! Not asking for daft ideas of what to use to scare the birds, asking for methods of affixing what the church already has Im liking the concept a lot Tommy, it's got a lot of mileage in it, depending on what birds it is that theyve purchased for the ends of the rods, obviously want to be fairly high up the food chain in order to achieve the desired effect... could try one of the larger common birds of prey, buzzard perhaps, though this can go both ways, either keeping away the likes of rooks, or causing them to mob. often rooks and crows will mob a little owl decoy. theres a lot of mileage in getting the high positioning
  3. it's crude, but... Large Jubilee clips? Exhaust clamps? anything less id be concerned it could take the strain
  4. Terror Kite Bird Scarer click 'more information' http://www.portek.co.uk/TerrorKite_General.html
  5. I just bought a spencer model from Clarks. Looks to be identical to the stihl yet substantially cheaper. IMO it may be open letting some dirt in, but it also means it lets the dirt out. Any dirt ingress into the husky or oregon tapes and it's pretty much in there to stay and wreak havok! the availability of new tape inserts, springs, ends etc with the spencer was also a bonus
  6. nope, gotta lock the piston to get any clutch off, and on outboard clutch saws, to get the sprocket off
  7. Measuring Tapes, Tape Measures: Results for Spencer Logging Products seems screws are available, have to take them out to put a new tape in? about half way down the spares section Andy. Think theyre in the states but gives you part numbers at least
  8. by the looks of it Andy, the Stihl is a rebranded Spencers tape as seen here http://www.clarkforest.com/shop/forest-garden/tape-measures/spencer-loggers-tape-measures if that helps track down spares
  9. Try torne valley. Depots in epworth and tickhill. Very good farm and country dealer, get a fair bit from them myself, also a Stihl dealer and sell a lot of garden machinery. Moving into Lincs slightly, green stripe garden machinery at bishop bridge. And please pete twist someone's arm to hire stuff cos I can't hire for love nor money round here
  10. that was my understanding too, there are exceptions, such as the lantra ITA courses though

    What bar?

could well be right chris. It's twisted along its length as well as bent, and im guessing laminated so not sure how far me, a vice, a hammer and possibility of heat would actually go. obviously never going to be a daily use bar again. what's your tendency? powermatch pro or pro-lite?
  12. ecolojim

    What bar?

yeah clarks prices were some of the very few Id come across, and seemed pretty favourable. you're mere pence out as it goes, on the PMP anyway. do all the other usual suspects not sell bars, only chains? seems odd, but there are numerous other shiny bits ive seen on clarks website so this afternoon could get expensive... as if I hadnt priced this cursed job badly enough already! haha yeah i could use it for going round corners couldnt I, or mass producing decorative S-shaped wooden items

    What bar?

lol! I mean best price for a x model of decent bar, not cheapest bar available

    What bar?

Well, since a wonderful sycamore trunk decided to 'Casey the punisher' my guidebar yesterday, I need a new 20" for the 372. If the original husky bar is Oregon made then I'm assuming it's a pro-lite, so what about the same again? How about a power match plus? Any other suggestions, cheapest price would be good too Cheers Jim
  15. Been running apple for about 6 years now ever since I was working in the recording and live sound field. My PowerBook g4 is still going strong. If you want a desktop, go with the iMac over the Mac pro unless you really need the extra, and upgrade it as much as you can afford to from the outset. Not that it can't be done later, it's just a lot easier. With the intel mac's you simply run bootcamp and have a windows dual boot on the machine for any windows only software you absolutely need to run. Mac are good like that
  16. correction, if you're putting in plastic pile dams, as Ive just been doing for natural england, a piling vibrator, mandrel and 21 tonner makes knocking them in so much easier ... through the peat layer... hit the dead sand and the mandrel comes out steaming and red hot to the touch. I love wetland work. cant get enough of it
  17. i guess so long as you have risk assessed it and gone so far is as 'reasonably practicable'...
  18. Not had that happen, but once had the indispension unit peel away on a jensen in the centre of bradford, crawling over a speed island not 5 minutes off the motorway! jammed the wheel/tyre up against the body and we had to fetch the tractor to lift it and trailer it away. friday afternoon and of course every text on my phone was from someone sat in a sunny beer garden. Unfortunately these things do crop up from time to time. Hopefully an isolated incident, but anything that makes us a bit more vigilant and less inclined to complacency is a good thing. Thanks for posting
  19. Id stick with semi-chisel on deadwood. will hold an edge longer, and deadwood tends to be harder on chains (hardwoods anyway)
  20. Thanks John! so if there's a manufacturer's serial, I dont need to necessarily assign my own? I might do it anyway in order to seperate any duplicate kit in rigging and climbing kits in the future
  21. I was under the impression the weekly inspection was to comply with the regulations, which is what the 6 monthly competent person inspection is also to do, so one should not be dependent on the other. Theyve never asked for any such inspection records when getting all out lifting, winching, climbing kits inspected at work to my knowledge
  22. Morning gurus, I freely admit im useless with fungi, but am becoming more and more interested, it's just unavoidable with the likes of your good selves about anyway, here's some standing deadwood on Natural England's Humberhead Peatland site nr Hatfield, Doncaster for you to ID and explain to me if you dont mind. think there were some other varied species on others I saw, will go armed with proper camera, not iphone next time. apologies for picture quality many thanks Jim
