  1. keep one in the knee pocket of my trousers at all times. sorry to derail, but what happened mate?

    spill kit

Oil absorbent pads. Put one under your saw whilst refueling, sit your can on one if you like. Any spills, you've already caught them
  4. Can you recommend any books on the topic Tony? VTA by numbers, VTA for dummies etc? would like something new to occupy my brain
  5. Think I was quoted an additional 8k for the remote option
  6. Everything about their design and operation lends itself to chipping with their parallelogram linkage. However, the trade off I should think, is folding it for transport vs the more 'conventional' types
  7. Part of me did wonder if the sugars were crystalising as the liquid evaporated/reduced but I wasn't sure they would be sufficient in quantity? Will get some close photos on Monday... A sample any use?
  8. I'd agree with Tony. Spent the last fortnight felling on one of Natural England's sights working on mostly birch. They've been absolutely running with sap like a tap, but give it even a few hours and it's gone milky white. Observed on stumps and pruning cuts alike
  9. Thanks Andy, this might sound a bit stupid, but which part of a pulley and especially a karabiner would you regard as being 'non-load bearing'? 'biners im supposing you could mark the outer collar of the locking gate mechanism? as to where on my pulley cheeks, im not sure where i would mark. I suppose take my cues from where the manufacturer has stamped/engraved their own serial number?
  10. now seems it WAS the reactor building that took the damage but was almost certainly a hydrogen explosion. Reactor vessel within is uncompromised, and plans now afoot to fill it with sea water and boric acid to cool it
  11. Afternoon all Was hoping for some pointers with regards marking of equipment for LOLER Ropes, im assuming as simple as getting the heat shrink stuff and putting a number on a bit of paper and shrinking it into place? Webbing based equipment, redirect slings, short petzl quickdraw, even Harness... how would I best mark these?? Metal hardware, karabiners, pulleys inc hitchclimber, grillon etc... How can I mark these? Im guessing stamping is obviously out, engraving? all help gratefully received! Jim

  13. the explosion may be many things, a chemical explosion, turbine hall etc, but it is, according to a british nuclear expert on the tele earlier, very unlikely that it is one of the reactor buildings, and unlikely that it is directly any kind of 'nuclear' explosion as the nuclear reaction is very unlikely to have been able to restart. more likely a hydrogen/oxygen explosion with the description of the side of the building 'falling off' exposing a steel framework he suggested that it could not be the reactor building as it is shrouded in minimum 1.2m solid reinforced concrete and the description did not tally with the construction of such a building hope he's right
  14. I clipped the saw to the basket on a tear away strop. I too didnt fancy going for a ride. Perhaps it's not worth using one at all though
  15. By all accounts it is a light water plant so cannot strictly speaking explode like say Chernobyl but that is in no way to remove from the seriousness of the situation
  16. You'll obviously be positioned close enough to reach the cut but far enough that anything large not land on or strike the basket. Perhaps employ a longer strop than for climbing just to give you more movement. At the end of the day dropping the saw can be an expensive way to spoil your day
  17. Not gonna be the easiest thing to produce considering the highly sporadic non, commercial use of my gear to date
  18. Evening all, Just preparing everything for its first Loler. Ive been pretty slack it must be said, and didnt number everything from the start. I have however kept all my invoices/delivery notes from all my kit. So on my spreadsheet, ive so far done a sheet for climbing, and a seperate one for lowering. got columns as follows Manufacturer Description Manufacturer Serial My Ident no Date Commissioned Am I missing anything? What documentation will the tester want to see? Just this information? Invoices? Cert's of conformity? (cos I dont think most of the kit ever came with one) Can anyone advise the best way to mark the different types of kit up with my own identification number too please Time to get my proverbial together with regards record keeping so all help appreciated, also where i might be able to get my kit checked with relatively quick turn around Thanks Jim
  19. Interesting point. I cant say for sure cos ive not seen it but with what I drive daily during the summer that looks only half as steep as our floodbanks You say you do some hand in hand work with the local EA depot? Do they have an Aebi/Metrac, whatever?
  20. shoulda stuck a clothes prop under the other end like the major oak
  21. only a problem if it's within warranty and they follow you round with a set of scales! Id be more interested in the 'local test' that seems to be so flippantly disregarded. after all, if it's plated and tested in this country to tow 2.8, it's plated and tested to tow 2.8
  22. usually caused by being loaded incorrectly. nose weight wrong, or nose aspect wrong (trailer heading up or down hill too much)
  23. from memory of last time someone put up a photo of that machine... it is!
  24. Isn't one of the Jo beau models self propelled? I'd be looking that way
